Design of Non-Uniformly Spaced Circular Arrays of Parasitic Dipoles for Lower Side Lobe Level with Maximum Directivity
This paper presents a new approach for circular array of parasitic dipoles composed by one active dipole for reduction of side lobe level with maximum directivity including mutual coupling. The desired goal is obtained by changing the spacing between the parasitic elements and length of the parasitic elements while the position and length of driven element is fixed. In addition to it, reflection coefficient (RC) of the driven element is kept closer to the specified value. Matlab based method of moment code is used to evaluate the performance of circular antenna designs generated by QPSO algorithm. Two examples are presented to show the effectiveness of this proposed approach.  
A Novel Encoding Scheme for Cross-Talk Effect Minimization Using Error Detecting and Correcting Codes
Abstract-In this paper a new bus encoding method presented for reducing crosstalk effects, which can avoid crosstalk and provide error-correcting as well. This method find a subset from cross talk avoidance code (CAC) to provide error correction which allows to reduce the crosstalk-induced delay with buses implementing an error detecting/correcting code. Here we propose Fibonacci representation of single error correcting codes using Hamming code to avoid crosstalk induced delay. Extra wires for checking bus are never required in the proposed method and it can also improve bus performance and reduce power dissipation. We give algorithms for obtaining optimal encodings and present a particular class of error free codes. Conversely other bus encoding techniques have been used to prevent crosstalk but don't correct error
Aerosol optical properties and composition over a table top complex mining area in the Monsoon trough region
Aerosol physiochemical properties over a varied mining plateau region at the eastern end of a monsoon trough are reported for the first time and analyzed at different time scales. Aerosol optical depth (single scattering albedo, SSA) is found to be 0.49 (0.9) in pre-monsoon, 0.4 (0.94) in monsoon, 0.46 (0.92) in post-monsoon, and 0.36 (0.89) in winter, with an annual mean of 0.43 (0.91). The volume-size distribution is tri-modal, with 0.02 (ultra-fine), 0.2 (accumulation) and 7 (coarse) µm, but with seasonal signatures. The angstrom exponent (AE) varies along with the AOD, especially in winter, although they are inversely related to each other during monsoons; the increase in size may be due to the effect of humidity. AODbc varies between 13.4%–4.7% of the total aerosols, with the highest contribution in March, when forest burning in the north east is at its peak. BC is the lowest in July, the mid monsoon month with the minimum biomass burning and brick-kiln activities. It is likely that the interactions of various minerals and intermittent rains help keep the aerosol size in a mixed state with regard to the relation between AE and AOD, although more work is needed to confirm this. The chemical composition of aerosols is derived from an aerosol chemical model based on the measured amount of black carbon and the assumed components. These components are selected based on back trajectories and earlier reports from the region. Their concentrations are adjusted by constraining the model output AOD and SSA to match (±2% @ 500 nm) that observed by a sun-sky radiometer. The chemical compositions of the winter and post-monsoon months are similar, while pre-monsoon period has more coarse mode minerals, and the monsoon period has more sea-salt (accu.). The component mass concentrations were grouped into various size bins based on their modal radii, and the results indicate that PM1 is at its maximum in winter whereas PM2.5 is highest in the post-monsoon period. Monsoons leads to the effective washout of 2.5–10 µm sized particles
Design of Reconfigurable Array Antennas With Minimum Variation of Active Impedances
[Abstract] In this letter, the authors propose an optimization method based on the genetic algorithm (GA) to reconfigure a linear array of vertical half-wavelength dipole antennas to generate two patterns with minimum active impedance variation when the antenna switches from one pattern to other in the presence or absence of a ground plane behind the array. The problem is to find a fixed voltage amplitude distribution that generates two broadside symmetrical beams in the horizontal plane: a pencil beam with zero phases and a flat-top beam with phases in the range from -180deg to +180deg. Linear and Non-Linear Synthesis of Unequally Spaced Time-Modulated Linear Arrays Using Evolutionary Algorithms
A novel method of designing unequally spaced time-modulated arrays (UESTMAs) by handling fewer optimization parameters with reduced problem dimension is presented in this paper. For synthesizing UESTMA, two design parameters, specifically, the non-linear parameter - element position, and the linear parameter – on-time durations are optimized in two steps. Different possible cases of linear and non-linear synthesis methods such as, position-only (PO), on-time only (OTO), position then on-time (PTOT), on-time then position (OTTP), and simultaneous position on-time (SPOT) are considered. To examine the performance of the synthesis methods, three global search stochastic algorithms based on differential evolution (DE), teaching-learning-based optimization (TLBO) and quantum particle swarm optimization (QPSO) have been employed to achieve the array pattern with significantly suppressed side lobe levels and sideband levels. Through comparative study, it is observed that the two step non-liner to linear synthesis method by fewer optimization parameters is efficient to provide better pattern with less computation time
Search based software engineering: Trends, techniques and applications

The definitive version is available from the link below.In the past five years there has been a dramatic increase in work on Search-Based Software Engineering (SBSE), an approach to Software Engineering (SE) in which Search-Based Optimization (SBO) algorithms are used to address problems in SE. SBSE has been applied to problems throughout the SE lifecycle, from requirements and project planning to maintenance and reengineering. The approach is attractive because it offers a suite of adaptive automated and semiautomated solutions in situations typified by large complex problem spaces with multiple competing and conflicting objectives.
This article provides a review and classification of literature on SBSE. The work identifies research trends and relationships between the techniques applied and the applications to which they have been applied and highlights gaps in the literature and avenues for further research.EPSRC and E
Theory of optical spectra of polar quantum wells: Temperature effects
Theoretical and numerical calculations of the optical absorption spectra of
excitons interacting with longitudinal-optical phonons in quasi-2D polar
semiconductors are presented. In II-VI semiconductor quantum wells, exciton
binding energy can be tuned on- and off-resonance with the longitudinal-optical
phonon energy by varying the quantum well width. A comprehensive picture of
this tunning effect on the temperature-dependent exciton absorption spectrum is
derived, using the exciton Green's function formalism at finite temperature.
The effective exciton-phonon interaction is included in the Bethe-Salpeter
equation. Numerical results are illustrated for ZnSe-based quantum wells. At
low temperatures, both a single exciton peak as well as a continuum resonance
state are found in the optical absorption spectra. By contrast, at high enough
temperatures, a splitting of the exciton line due to the real phonon absorption
processes is predicted. Possible previous experimental observations of this

The mother – child nexus. Knowledge and valuation of wild food plants in Wayanad, Western Ghats, India
This study focuses on the mother-child nexus (or process of enculturation) with respect to knowledge and valuation of wild food plants in a context where accelerated processes of modernization and acculturation are leading to the erosion of knowledge and cultural values associated with wild food plant use, in Wayanad, Western Ghats, India. Wild food plants in this biodiversity hotspot form an important part of local diets and are used as famine foods and medicines. In general, the collection and consumption of these foods are increasingly stigmatized as symbols of poverty and 'tribalness' (equivalent to 'backwardness'). The study, which falls within the discipline of ethnobotany, involves three socio-cultural groups – the Paniya and Kuruma tribes and non-tribals. Further, it examines the impact in the enculturation process of an unusual educational programme sponsored by the MS Swaminathan Research Foundation that is oriented towards creating awareness among children of cultural identity and local biological resources – the study compares children having participated in the programme with those who have not, with their mothers. The process of enculturation is assessed by comparing wild food plant knowledge and values between mothers and their children, and by examining events where knowledge transmission occurs, including collection and consumption. For that, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis tools were used, and methods included semi-structured interviews, photo identification and informal interviews of key informants. Results ratify that women are the knowledge holders and are the primary means of knowledge transmission to their children. Nevertheless, fewer children are collecting wild food plants with mothers and learning about them, apparently because of children's lack of time. On the other hand, older people acknowledge that a "change in taste" is occurring among younger generations. In general, there is a simultaneous transmission from mothers to children of contrasting values pertaining to wild food plants: that they are 'good food' but also that they are symbols of low status and poverty, leading to feelings of shame and inferiority. Finally, the study concludes that the educational programme, through a "learning by doing" approach counteracts social stigma and encourages learning among children of all ages and socio-cultural groups, particularly stimulating non-tribal children to learn from tribals
