Gender aspects of confounding factors in the preparation of powerlifters
Powerlifters' sporting activities involve a variety of circumstances preventing them from optimal physical performance. The study of confounding factors, taking into account gender-based approach, allows determining the highest priority position of these barriers for both sexes. In the course of our study we surveyed 160 athletes - powerlifters (80 men and 80 women) from Russia at the age of 16 to 49 possessing various sports skills. This paper analyzes the first three factors that are most significant for men and women in the course of training and competitive activities. The results of the study do not reveal fundamental difference in defining significant confounding factors by male and female powerlifters
Intensity of free radical processes in rats’ blood while deep hypothermia and self-warming
Hypothermic conditions of homoisothermic organisms are characterized by the activation of free-radical processes in tissues. The intensity of these processes occurring at hypothermia is less well understood. The essential increase in heart rate, breathing, blood flow velocity, and metabolic processes during warming must stimulate the generation of reactive oxygen species and oxidative modification of biomolecules. We study the levels of peroxidation markers of lipids (by malondialdehyde) and proteins (by carbonyl groups) in blood plasma and erythrocytes as well as the activity of erythrocyte antioxidant enzymes of rats after deep hypothermia (the temperature in the rectum was 20 °C) and self-warming dynamics. A maximum warming rate (0.0160C/min) was revealed over the body temperature range of 22-33 °С, below and above these temperatures a warming rate was essentially lower. The warming of rats resulted in a total protein content reduction which negatively correlates (r = -0.967; р < 0.05) with a middle molecular peptide level. The deep hypothermia decreased the intensity of oxidative modification of lipid and proteins in blood plasma and red blood cell membranes, and the activity of red blood cell superoxide dismutase (SOD). Maximum amount of products of oxidative modification of lipids and proteins in plasma and erythrocytes membranes caused by rats' self-warming was observed at body temperature of 30-35 °С. After a complete rats' warming the intensity of oxidative modification of lipids and proteins in plasma and erythrocyte membranes decreased. The activity of SOD and catalase of erythrocyte substantially increased when body temperature reached 35 °С. The obtained data indicate that during self-warming at the body temperature of 30-35 °С the oxidative stress appears in blood which requires the use of antioxidant defense
Analysis of Current Situation in Municipal Waste Management and Implementation of Decision Support Software in Astana, Kazakhstan
The city of Astana, capital of Kazakhstan with population of 804,474 generates approximately 1.39 kg/inh./day of municipal solid waste while collection rate is higher than 72% (MSW). An MBT plant of planned capacity of 600-800 tn/day and a new landfill cell of about 2 million tones are in place. Preliminary studies showed that the MSW composition is as follows: food and garden waste 29.5%, plastics 18.5%, paper 13%, glass 14.5%, textiles 9.5%, metals 0.9% and others 14.1%. About 23-34 tons of recyclables (paper, metal, glass, PET bottles, HDPE film, HDPE plastic, etc.) is separated in the existing MBT daily. In 2014 it is planned to implement separate waste collection in places of waste accumulation and a waste separation at source system. The purpose of the study is to assess the current situation of municipal solid waste in Astana and implement a Decision Support Software tool developed by the research team in order to analyse data, compare alternative waste management scenarios and propose a holistic approach in solid waste management planning. The latest available data on waste generation, composition and existing infrastructure were used in order to identify the baseline situation. Mechanism of the thermochemical transformation of wheat grain’s processing waste during heat treatment
The thermal destruction of wheat grain’s processing wastes from Almaty and South Kazakhstan regions was studieв. The structure of the products obtained depending on the temperature of the carbonization process was formed, and the basic physico chemical characteristics of the obtained carbon material based on the WGPW were studied using thermogravimetric analysis, differential scanning calorimetry, IR spectroscopy and EPR spectroscopy. The analysis of the elemental composition of the obtained samples of the sorption material showed that the carbon content in the composition of the obtained carbon material is 75.08 - 76.12%, which in turn can cause a sufficiently high degree of sorption capacity of this material, as well as its mechanical strength. The obtained carbon materials based on OIP were modified with ammonium nitrate (NH4NO3) to improve its physico-chemical characteristics, such as specific surface area, porosity and adsorption capacity by iodine. It is shown that structural transformations of the processing waste of wheat grain (bran) in the process of heat treatment irrespective of temperature (in the studied interval) proceed through the stage of formation of free radicals. The concentration of free radicals formed in this process, as well as the composition of the graphite-like component of the products obtained, are determined by the temperature indices of the process
Improvement of Lyme Borreliosis Agent Indication Methods
On the basis of silica - aluminosilicate, modified by carboxymethylated lignin and carbodiimide, obtained are the composite microgranulated magnetic immunoadsorbents (MIA) with high adsorption activity, which are characterized by the standardized structural characteristics and mechanical strength. Application of MIAs makes it possible, at the stage of tick samples preparation, to eliminate various admixtures via reiterative irrigations of the sorbent with the infectious agent fixed on it. Therefore negative influence of admixtures on the performed analysis is excluded, and the target agent is concentrated to the maximum limit. THE EPIDEMIOLOGICAL SITUATION ON CHOLERA IN THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN IN 2011
The analysis of registered cholera cases that occurred during 1993-2008 showed that all epidemic cases of cholera in Kazakhstan were imported. The toxigenic cholera microbes were isolated from the water reservoirs which started in the neighbor country. The spatial distribution of non-toxic cholera vibrio has the regional features. The climatic and anthropogenic factors affect the distribution of the cholera vibrio in the Kazakhstan. The results of the analysis show that the complex approach has to be used for cholera epidemiological monitoring
Brief space and time characteristics of epizootic plague situation in Kazakhstan in 2011
The natural plague foci of Kazakhstan occupy a huge territory. The mapping of these foci is a very important part of the plague monitoring and has a scientific and practical meaning. The old paper mapped data have been obsolete and. all previous and. current data have been digitized now. The digitizing of the data was carried by ArcGIS program. The epidemiological and epizootological analysis of the data of 2012 showed that the Kazakh plague natural foci were active in that time. And the analysis showed that by the complex factors a more active and epidemic hazardous area was Qyzylorda Region
Persistence of strong silica-enriched domains in the Earth's lower mantle
The composition of the lower mantle—comprising 56% of Earth’s volume—remains poorly constrained. Among the major elements, Mg/Si ratios ranging from ∼0.9–1.1, such as in rocky Solar-System building blocks (or chondrites), to ∼1.2–1.3, such as in upper-mantle rocks (or pyrolite), have been proposed. Geophysical evidence for subducted lithosphere deep in the mantle has been interpreted in terms of efficient mixing, and thus homogenous Mg/Si across most of the mantle. However, previous models did not consider the effects of variable Mg/Si on the viscosity and mixing efficiency of lower-mantle rocks. Here, we use geodynamic models to show that large-scale heterogeneity associated with a 20-fold change in viscosity, such as due to the dominance of intrinsically strong (Mg, Fe)SiO3–bridgmanite in low-Mg/Si domains, is sufficient to prevent efficient mantle mixing, even on large scales. Models predict that intrinsically strong domains stabilize mantle convection patterns, and coherently persist at depths of about 1,000–2,200 km up to the present-day, separated by relatively narrow up-/downwelling conduits of pyrolitic material. The stable manifestation of such bridgmanite-enriched ancient mantle structures (BEAMS) may reconcile the geographical fixity of deep-rooted mantle upwelling centres, and geophysical changes in seismic-tomography patterns, radial viscosity, rising plumes and sinking slabs near 1,000 km depth. Moreover, these ancient structures may provide a reservoir to host primordial geochemical signatures
