Neutral heavy lepton production at next high energy e+e−e^+e^- linear colliders

    Get PDF
The discovery potential for detecting new heavy Majorana and Dirac neutrinos at some recently proposed high energy e+e−e^+e^- colliders is discussed. These new particles are suggested by grand unified theories and superstring-inspired models. For these models the production of a single heavy neutrino is shown to be more relevant than pair production when comparing cross sections and neutrino mass ranges. The process e+e−⟶νe±W∓ e^+e^- \longrightarrow {\nu} e^{\pm} W^{\mp} is calculated including on-shell and off-shell heavy neutrino effects. We present a detailed study of cross sections and distributions that shows a clear separation between the signal and standard model contributions, even after including hadronization effects.Comment: 4 pages including 15 figures, 1 table. DMRG study of the Bond Alternating \textbf{S}=1/2 Heisenberg ladder with Ferro-Antiferromagnetic couplings

We obtain the phase diagram in the parameter space (J′/J,γ)(J'/J, \gamma) and an accurate estimate of the critical line separating the different phases. We show several measuments of the magnetization, dimerization, nearest neighbours correlation, and density of energy in the different zones of the phase diagram, as well as a measurement of the string order parameter proposed as the non vanishing phase order parameter characterizing Haldane phases. All these results will be compared in the limit J′/J≫1J'/J\gg 1 with the behaviour of the S=1\textbf{S}=1 Bond Alternated Heisenberg Chain (BAHC). The analysis of our data supports the existence of a dimer phase separated by a critical line from a Haldane one, which has exactly the same nature as the Haldane phase in the S=1\textbf{S}=1 BAHC.Comment: Version 4. 8 pages, 15 figures (12 figures in document

Cosmology in the Universe with distance dependent Lorentz-violating bakground

We consider a cosmological setup with the inflaton field in the presence of a redshift dependent Lorentz-violating time-like background to address the inflationary regime and other phases of the Universe. We also show that the regime of dark energy at large distances (low redshifts) is essentially dominated by the presence of the Lorentz-violating background.Comment: 8 pages, no figure, Latex, to appear in AHE

Gauge fields in a string-cigar braneworld

In this work we investigate the properties of an Abelian gauge vector field in a thin and in a smoothed string-like braneworld, the so-called string-cigar model. This thick brane scenario satisfies the regularity conditions and it can be regarded as an interior and exterior string-like solution. The source undergoes a geometric Ricci flow which is connected to a variation of the bulk cosmological constant. The Ricci flow changes the width and amplitude of the massless mode at the brane core and recover the usual thin string-like behavior at large distances. By numerical means we obtain the Kaluza-Klein (KK) spectrum for both the thin brane and the string-cigar. It turns out that both models exhibit a mass gap between the massless and the massive modes and between the high and the low mass regimes. The KK modes are smooth near the brane and their amplitude are enhanced by the string-cigar core. The analogue Schr\"odinger potential is also tuned by the geometric flow.Comment: The discussion about the Kaluza-Klein spectrum of the gauge field was improved. Numerical analysis was adapted to the conventional notation on Kaluza-Klein number. Some graphics were modified for considering other notation. Results unchanged. References added. Relaxing to a three dimensional brane junction

We suggest a mechanism which leads to 3+1 space-time dimensions. The Universe assumed to have nine spatial dimensions is regarded as a special nonlinear oscillatory system -- a kind of Einstein solid. There are p-brane solutions which manifest as phase oscillations separating different phase states. The presence of interactions allows for bifurcations of higher dimensional spaces to lower dimensional ones in the form of brane junctions. We argue this is a natural way to select lower dimensions.Comment: RevTex, 5 pages; version to appear in Europhys. Let
