Diffusive Ionization of Relativistic Hydrogen-Like Atom
Stochastic ionization of highly excited relativistic hydrogenlike atom in the
monochromatic field is investigated. A theoretical analisis of chaotic dynamics
of the relativistic electron based on Chirikov criterion is given for the cases
of one- and three-dimensional atoms. Critical value of the external field is
evaluated analitically. The diffusion coefficient and ionization time are
calculated.Comment: 13 pages, latex, no figures, submitted to PR
Ionization dynamics in intense pulsed laser radiation. Effects of frequency chirping
Via a non-perturbative method we study the population dynamics and
photoelectron spectra of Cs atoms subject to intense chirped laser pulses, with
gaussian beams. We include above threshold ionization spectral peaks. The
frequency of the laser is near resonance with the 6s-7p transition. Dominant
couplings are included exactly, weaker ones accounted for perturbatively. We
calculate the relevant transition matrix elements, including spin-orbit
coupling. The pulse is taken to be a hyperbolic secant in time and the chirping
a hyperbolic tangent. This choice allows the equations of motions for the
probability amplitudes to be solved analytically as a series expansion in the
variable u=(tanh(pi t/tau)+1)/2, where tau is a measure of the pulse length. We
find that the chirping changes the ionization dynamics and the photoelectron
spectra noticeably, especially for longer pulses of the order of 10^4 a.u. The
peaks shift and change in height, and interference effects between the 7p
levels are enhanced or diminished according to the amount of chirping and its
sign. The integrated ionization probability is not strongly affected.Comment: Accepted by J. Phys. B; 18 pages, 17 figures. Latex, uses

Supersymmetric Quantum Mechanics and Solitons of the sine-Gordon and Nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger Equations
We present a case demonstrating the connection between supersymmetric quantum
mechanics (SUSY--QM), reflectionless scattering, and soliton solutions of
integrable partial differential equations. We show that the members of a class
of reflectionless Hamiltonians, namely, Akulin's Hamiltonians, are connected
via supersymmetric chains to a potential-free Hamiltonian, explaining their
reflectionless nature. While the reflectionless property in question has been
mentioned in the literature for over two decades, the enabling algebraic
mechanism was previously unknown. Our results indicate that the multi-solition
solutions of the sine-Gordon and nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equations can be
systematically generated via the supersymmetric chains connecting Akulin's
Hamiltonians. Our findings also explain a well-known but little-understood
effect in laser physics: when a two-level atom, initially in the ground state,
is subjected to a laser pulse of the form ,
with being an integer and being the pulse duration, it remains in
the ground state after the pulse has been applied, for {\it any} choice of the
laser detuning.Comment: minor improvements | 5 pages, 3 figure
Theory of x-ray absorption by laser-dressed atoms
An ab initio theory is devised for the x-ray photoabsorption cross section of
atoms in the field of a moderately intense optical laser (800nm, 10^13 W/cm^2).
The laser dresses the core-excited atomic states, which introduces a dependence
of the cross section on the angle between the polarization vectors of the two
linearly polarized radiation sources. We use the Hartree-Fock-Slater
approximation to describe the atomic many-particle problem in conjunction with
a nonrelativistic quantum-electrodynamic approach to treat the photon-electron
interaction. The continuum wave functions of ejected electrons are treated with
a complex absorbing potential that is derived from smooth exterior complex
scaling. The solution to the two-color (x-ray plus laser) problem is discussed
in terms of a direct diagonalization of the complex symmetric matrix
representation of the Hamiltonian. Alternative treatments with time-independent
and time-dependent non-Hermitian perturbation theories are presented that
exploit the weak interaction strength between x rays and atoms. We apply the
theory to study the photoabsorption cross section of krypton atoms near the K
edge. A pronounced modification of the cross section is found in the presence
of the optical laser.Comment: 13 pages, 3 figures, 1 table, RevTeX4, corrected typoe
Enterprise social network success: Evidences from a multinational corporation
In a globalized world, where companies operate across different locations and work becomes increasingly complex, collaboration in a diversity of ways is required among employees to perform tasks more effectively. Following a case study methodology that involved six interviews across three different country locations, this research addresses the phenomenon of Enterprise Social Networks (ESN) in a multinational corporation with a focus on the assessment of ESN success. The findings show that the company, while trying to assess the success of Yammer, the freemium social networking service at use, has mainly relied on analytics tools to measure usage through indicators such as the total number of users. However, the extent to which ESN is used does not provide a complete picture of ESN success. Business value from that ESN usage is another dimension to be considered to assess success. Therefore, the study of specific ESN usage scenarios that are perceived to have a trackable impact on business results can be used to assess ESN business value on top of ESN usage to fully understand ESN success.COMPETE: POCI-01-0145-FEDER-007043 and FCT – Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the Project Scope: UID/CEC/00319/2013info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Electron detachment from negative ions in bichromatic laser field
Negative ion detachment in two-colour laser field is considered within the
recent modification of Keldysh model which makes it quantitatively reliable.
The general approach is illustrated by calculation of angular differential
detachment rates, partial rates for particular ATD (Above Threshold Detachment)
channels and total detachment rates for H ion in bichromatic field with 1:2
frequency ratio. Both perturbative and strong field regimes are examined. Polar
asymmetry and phase effects are quantitatively characterized with some new
features revealed. Phase effects are found to result in a huge anisotropy
factor in the electron angular distribution in the perturbative
regime.Comment: 13 pages, 8 figures in separate files which are not incorporated in

Gibbs attractor: a chaotic nearly Hamiltonian system, driven by external harmonic force
A chaotic autonomous Hamiltonian systems, perturbed by small damping and
small external force, harmonically dependent on time, can acquire a strange
attractor with properties similar to that of the canonical distribution - the
Gibbs attractor. The evolution of the energy in such systems can be described
as the energy diffusion. For the nonlinear Pullen - Edmonds oscillator with two
degrees of freedom the properties of the Gibbs attractor and their dependence
on parameters of the perturbation are studied both analytically and
numerically.Comment: 8 pages RevTeX, 3 figure
On the measurement of laser-induced plasma breakdown thresholds
The breakdown threshold of a gas exposed to intense laser-radiation is a function of gas and laser properties. Breakdown thresholds reported in the literature often vary greatly and these differences can partially be traced back to the method that is typically used to determine breakdown thresholds. This paper discusses the traditional method used to determine breakdown thresholds and the potential errors that can arise using this approach, and presents an alternative method which can yield more accurate data especially when determining breakdown thresholds as functions of gas pressure
Ionization of Rydberg atoms by blackbody radiation
We have studied an ionization of alkali-metal Rydberg atoms by blackbody
radiation (BBR). The results of the theoretical calculations of ionization
rates of Li, Na, K, Rb and Cs Rydberg atoms are presented. Calculations have
been performed for nS, nP and nD states which are commonly used in a variety of
experiments, at principal quantum numbers n=8-65 and at the three ambient
temperatures of 77, 300 and 600 K. A peculiarity of our calculations is that we
take into account the contributions of BBR-induced redistribution of population
between Rydberg states prior to photoionization and field ionization by
extraction electric field pulses. The obtained results show that these
phenomena affect both the magnitude of measured ionization rates and shapes of
their dependences on n. A Cooper minimum for BBR-induced transitions between
bound Rydberg states of Li has been found. The calculated ionization rates are
compared with our earlier measurements of BBR-induced ionization rates of Na nS
and nD Rydberg states with n=8-20 at 300 K. A good agreement for all states
except nS with n>15 is observed. Useful analytical formulas for quick
estimation of BBR ionization rates of Rydberg atoms are presented. Application
of BBR-induced ionization signal to measurements of collisional ionization
rates is demonstrated.Comment: 36 pages, 16 figures. Paper is revised following NJP referees'

Stochastic ionization through noble tori: Renormalization results
We find that chaos in the stochastic ionization problem develops through the
break-up of a sequence of noble tori. In addition to being very accurate, our
method of choice, the renormalization map, is ideally suited for analyzing
properties at criticality. Our computations of chaos thresholds agree closely
with the widely used empirical Chirikov criterion
