D-instanton sums for matter hypermultiplets
We calculate some non-perturbative (D-instanton) quantum corrections to the
moduli space metric of several (n>1) identical matter hypermultiplets for the
type-IIA superstrings compactified on a Calabi-Yau threefold, near conifold
singularities. We find a non-trivial deformation of the (real) 4n-dimensional
hypermultiplet moduli space metric due to the infinite number of D-instantons,
under the assumption of n tri-holomorphic commuting isometries of the metric,
in the hyper-K"ahler limit (i.e. in the absence of gravitational corrections).Comment: 11 pages, no figure
Bilingual Counseling Students Developing Cultural and Language Competence in Mexico
Scholars have recently called for a greater research focus on bilingual counselor education and training. This study aims to explore the impact and development of study abroad immersion experiences on Latine bilingual counseling students. This study used transcendental phenomenological research to explore the lived experiences of bilingual counselors (N = 7) during a two-week study abroad program in Oaxaca. Participants comprised master’s and doctoral level students at a CACREP-accredited program who identified as Latine, Spanish-speakers. Through individual interviews, we discovered three themes from the data: (a) personal and professional connection to the study abroad program, (b) developing cultural competence through introspection, self-awareness, and humility, and (c) increasing professional Spanish while embracing nuances. Latine, Spanish-speaking reported growth in their linguistic abilities, self-understanding, and knowledge of Latine cultures. We discuss implications for counselor education study abroad pedagogy and research, as well as how study abroad can promote competence for bilingual counselors
Toric hyperkahler manifolds with quaternionic Kahler bases and supergravity solutions
In the present work some examples of toric hyperkahler metrics in eight
dimensions are constructed. First it is described how the Calderbank-Pedersen
metrics arise as a consequence of the Joyce description of selfdual structures
in four dimensions, the Jones-Tod correspondence and a result due to Tod and
Przanowski. It is also shown that any quaternionic Kahler metric with
isometry is locally isometric to a Calderbank-Pedersen one. The Swann
construction of hyperkahler metrics in eight dimensions is applied to them to
find hyperkahler examples with isometry. The connection with
the Pedersen-Poon toric hyperkahler metrics is explained and it is shown that
there is a class of solutions of the generalized monopole equation in
related to eigenfunctions of certain linear
equation. This hyperkahler examples are lifted to solutions of the D=11
supergravity and type IIA and IIB backgrounds are found by use of dualities. As
before, all the description is achieved in terms of a single eigenfunction F.
Some explicit F are found, together with the Toda structure corresponding to

Toric G_2 and Spin(7) holonomy spaces from gravitational instantons and other examples
Non-compact G_2 holonomy metrics that arise from a T^2 bundle over a
hyper-Kahler space are discussed. These are one parameter deformations of the
metrics studied by Gibbons, Lu, Pope and Stelle in hep-th/0108191.
Seven-dimensional spaces with G_2 holonomy fibered over the Taub-Nut and the
Eguchi-Hanson gravitational instantons are found, together with other examples.
By considering the Apostolov-Salamon theorem math.DG/0303197, we construct a
new example that, still being a T^2 bundle over hyper-Kahler, represents a non
trivial two parameter deformation of the metrics studied in hep-th/0108191. We
then review the Spin(7) metrics arising from a T^3 bundle over a hyper-Kahler
and we find two parameter deformation of such spaces as well. We show that if
the hyper-Kahler base satisfies certain properties, a non trivial three
parameter deformations is also possible. The relation between these spaces with
the half-flat structures and almost G_2 holonomy spaces is briefly discussed.Comment: 27 pages. Typos corrected. Accepted for publication in

DNA methylation dynamics in a coastal foundation seagrass species under abiotic stressors
DNA methylation (DNAm) has been intensively studied in terrestrial plants in response to environmental changes, but its dynamic changes in a temporal scale remain unexplored in marine plants. The seagrass Posidonia oceanica ranks among the slowest-growing and longest-living plants on Earth, and is particularly vulnerable to sea warming and local anthropogenic pressures. Here, we analysed the dynamics of DNAm changes in plants collected from coastal areas differentially impacted by eutrophication (i.e. oligotrophic, Ol; eutrophic, Eu) and exposed to abiotic stressors (nutrients, temperature increase and their combination). Levels of global DNAm (% 5-mC) and the expression of key genes involved in DNAm were assessed after one, two and five weeks of exposure. Results revealed a clear differentiation between plants, depending on environmental stimuli, time of exposure and plants' origin. % 5-mC levels were higher during the initial stress exposure especially in Ol plants, which upregulated almost all genes involved in DNAm. Contrarily, Eu plants showed lower expression levels, which increased under chronic exposure to stressors, particularly to temperature. These findings show that DNAm is dynamic in P. oceanica during stress exposure and underlined that environmental epigenetic variations could be implicated in the regulation of acclimation and phenotypic differences depending on local conditions
An ACO-based Hyper-heuristic for Sequencing Many-objective Evolutionary Algorithms that Consider Different Ways to Incorporate the DM's Preferences
Many-objective optimization is an area of interest common to researchers, professionals, and practitioners because of its real-world implications. Preference incorporation into Multi-Objective Evolutionary Algorithms (MOEAs) is one of the current approaches to treat Many-Objective Optimization Problems (MaOPs). Some recent studies have focused on the advantages of embedding preference models based on interval outranking into MOEAs; several models have been proposed to achieve it. Since there are many factors influencing the choice of the best outranking model, there is no clear notion of which is the best model to incorporate the preferences of the decision maker into a particular problem. This paper proposes a hyper-heuristic algorithm—named HyperACO—that searches for the best combination of several interval outranking models embedded into MOEAs to solve MaOPs. HyperACO is able not only to select the most appropriate model but also to combine the already existing models to solve a specific MaOP correctly. The results obtained on the DTLZ and WFG test suites corroborate that HyperACO can hybridize MOEAs with a combined preference model that is suitable to the problem being solved. Performance comparisons with other state-of-the-art MOEAs and tests for statistical significance validate this conclusion
Does Warming Enhance the Effects of Eutrophication in the Seagrass Posidonia oceanica?
Seagrass meadows are disappearing at rates comparable to those reported for mangroves, coral reefs, and tropical rainforests. One of the main causes of their decline is the so-called cultural eutrophication, i.e., the input of abnormal amounts of nutrients derived from human activities. Besides the impact of eutrophication at a local scale, the occurrence of additional stress factors such as global sea warming may create synergisms in detriment of seagrass meadows’ health. In the present study, we aimed to evaluate if plants undergoing chronic cultural eutrophication and plants growing in relatively pristine waters are more (or less) sensitive to heat stress, nutrient load and the combination of both stressors. To address this question, a mesocosm experiment was conducted using Posidonia oceanica collected from two environments with different nutrients load history. Plants were exposed in controlled conditions to high nutrient concentrations, increased temperature and their combination for 5 weeks, to assess the effect of the single stressors and their interaction. Our results revealed that plants experiencing chronic cultural eutrophication (EU) are more sensitive to further exposure to multiple stressors than plants growing in oligotrophic habitats (OL). OL and EU plants showed different morphological traits and physiological performances, which corroborates the role of local pressures in activating different strategies in response to global environmental changes. EU-plants appeared to be weaker during the treatments, showing the greatest percentage of mortality, particularly under increased temperature. Temperature and nutrient treatments showed opposite effects when tested individually and an offset response when combined. The activation of physiological strategies with high energetic expenses to cope with excess of nutrients and other stressors, could affect plants present and future persistence, particularly under eutrophic conditions. Our results represent a step forward in understanding the complex interactions that occur in natural environments. Moreover, unraveling intraspecific strategies and the role of local acclimation/adaptation in response to multiple stressors could be crucial for seagrass conservation strategies under a climate change scenario
