Insulin sensitivity in subacute experimental T3 hyperthyroidism in man.
The present study was planned to evaluate the effect of 3-day T3 administration on
hepatic glucose production, peripheral glucose utilisation, insulin binding and
pancreatic responsitivity. Three-day administration of T3 in healthy subjects increased
plasma T3 concentration at the level commonly observed in hyperthyroid patients, even
though plasma T4 was not increased. This condition of subacute experimental T3-hyperthyroidism
produced a significant increase in fasting glucose turnover and a decrease in insulin-binding on
circulating monocytes
