The ``'' matrices for all states of the two fundamental representations
and octet are shown in the generalized Euler angle parameterization. The
raising and lowering operators are given in terms of linear combinations of the
left invariant vector fields of the group manifold in this parameterization.
Using these differential operators the highest weight state of an arbitrary
irreducible representation is found and a description of the calculation of

Conditional Demand System for Beverages
Estimates of a conditional demand system for twelve beverages, based on the Rotterdam model subject to a full, first-order autoregressive process, are discussed. Impacts of beverage prices, total beverage expenditures and promotions on beverage quantities demanded are provided. The results indicate that all beverages were normal goods; the majority had price elastic demands; most had a relatively large own-promotion effect; and a number of significant cross-promotional effects exist, indicating a relatively high level of competition for market share among the beverages studied.conditional demand system, beverages, Agribusiness,
Confusion of Diffuse Objects in the X-ray Sky
Most of the baryons in the present-day universe are thought to reside in
intergalactic space at temperatures of 10^5-10^7 K. X-ray emission from these
baryons contributes a modest (~10%) fraction of the ~ 1 keV background whose
prominence within the large-scale cosmic web depends on the amount of
non-gravitational energy injected into intergalactic space by supernovae and
AGNs. Here we show that the virialized regions of groups and clusters cover
over a third of the sky, creating a source-confusion problem that may hinder
X-ray searches for individual intercluster filaments and contaminate

The Ghost of Extinction: Preservation Values and Minimum Viable Population in Wildlife Models
The inclusion of a minimum viable population in bioeconomic modeling creates at least two complications that are not resolved by using a modified logistic growth function. The first complication can be dealt with by choosing a different depensational growth function. The second complication relates to the inclusion of the in situ benefits of wildlife into the analysis. Knowledge about the magnitude of the in situ benefits provides no guide for policy about conservation management. Simply knowing that people are willing to pay a large amount each year to protect a species says nothing about whether one should manage habitat to protect or enhance the species numbers, unless the species is in imminent danger of extinction. Evaluation of macrophyte control in 38 Florida lakes using triploid grass carp
Florida’s large number of shallow lakes, warm climate and
long growing season have contributed to the development of
excessive growths of aquatic macrophytes that have seriously
interfered with many water use activities. The introduction
of exotic aquatic macrophyte species such as hydrilla (
Hydrilla
verticillata
) have added significantly to aquatic plant problems
in Florida lakes. The use of grass carp (
Ctenopharyngodon
idella
) can be an effective and economical control for aquatic
vegetation such as hydrilla. Early stocking rates (24 to 74
grass carp per hectare of lake area) resulted in grass carp
consumption rates that vastly exceeded the growth rates of
the aquatic plants and often resulted in the total loss of all
submersed vegetation. This study looked at 38 Florida lakes
that had been stocked with grass carp for 3 to 10 years with
stocking rates ranging from < 1 to 59 grass carp per hectare
of lake and 1 to 207 grass carp per hectare of vegetation to
determine the long term effects of grass carp on aquatic macrophyte
communities. The median PAC (percent area coverage)
value of aquatic macrophytes for the study lakes after
they were stocked with grass carp was 14% and the median
PVI (percent volume infested) value of aquatic macrophytes
was 2%. Only lakes stocked with less than 25 to 30 fish per
hectare of vegetation tended to have higher than median
PAC and PVI values. When grass carp are stocked at levels of
> 25 to 30 fish per hectare of vegetation the complete control
of aquatic vegetation can be achieved, with the exception of
a few species of plants that grass carp have extreme difficulty
consuming. If the management goal for a lake is to control
some of the problem aquatic plants while maintaining a
small population of predominately unpalatable aquatic
plants, grass carp can be stocked at approximately 25 to 30
fish per hectare of vegetation
A Simple Boltzmann Transport Equation for Ballistic to Diffusive Transient Heat Transport
Developing simplified, but accurate, theoretical approaches to treat heat
transport on all length and time scales is needed to further enable scientific
insight and technology innovation. Using a simplified form of the Boltzmann
transport equation (BTE), originally developed for electron transport, we
demonstrate how ballistic phonon effects and finite-velocity propagation are
easily and naturally captured. We show how this approach compares well to the
phonon BTE, and readily handles a full phonon dispersion and energy-dependent
mean-free-path. This study of transient heat transport shows i) how fundamental
temperature jumps at the contacts depend simply on the ballistic thermal
resistance, ii) that phonon transport at early times approach the ballistic
limit in samples of any length, and iii) perceived reductions in heat
conduction, when ballistic effects are present, originate from reductions in
temperature gradient. Importantly, this framework can be recast exactly as the
Cattaneo and hyperbolic heat equations, and we discuss how the key to capturing
ballistic heat effects is to use the correct physical boundary conditions.Comment: 9 pages, 5 figure
