Exports, Services and Value Added - A National, International and Regional Analysis for Austria

    Get PDF
Austrian business cycles are strongly dependent on the development of foreign exports. The paper deals with two important issues in this context: What is the impact of foreign exports on total growth in the Austrian economy? A more and more globalized economy implies that the share of foreign imports in the production of export commodities increases. This suggests that the contribution of foreign exports to domestic growth will diminish over time ? this hypothesis will be tested in the paper. In addition, the results for Austria will be compared with those for other countries in the EU as well as the OECD. Export activities are not evenly distributed over space: While some regions are more specialized in the production of commodities for the domestic market, other regions are much more dependent on foreign exports. In the paper, the regional economic consequences of the value-added impacts of foreign exports will be analysed. The paper will make use of national input-output tables for the years 1995, 2000 and 2003 as well as input-output tables for OECD countries to examine the national economic impacts of foreign exports and an international comparison. Furthermore, a multiregional model for Austria ("MultiREG") will be applied for estimating the corresponding regional impacts.Competitiveness, Export of Services

Continuous Centrifuge Decelerator for Polar Molecules

Producing large samples of slow molecules from thermal-velocity ensembles is a formidable challenge. Here we employ a centrifugal force to produce a continuous molecular beam with a high flux at near-zero velocities. We demonstrate deceleration of three electrically guided molecular species, CH3_3F, CF3_3H, and CF3_3CCH, with input velocities of up to 200 m s−1200\,\rm{m\,s^{-1}} to obtain beams with velocities below 15 m s−115\,\rm{m\,s^{-1}} and intensities of several 109 mm−2 s−110^9\,\rm{mm^{-2}\,s^{-1}}. The centrifuge decelerator is easy to operate and can, in principle, slow down any guidable particle. It has the potential to become a standard technique for continuous deceleration of molecules.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures; version accepted for publication in PR

    Myelodysplastic syndrome with excess blasts

Myelodysplastic syndrome with excess blasts (MDS-EB) represents the most clinically aggressive end of the continuum of the myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS). All MDS are characterized by clonal, ineffective hematopoiesis with maturation defects and increased apoptosis resulting in peripheral blood cytopenias, abnormal myeloid maturation (dysplasia) and variable risk of progression to bone marrow failure and/or acute myeloid leukemia. Progressive degrees of restricted myeloid maturation represente

Electrostatic extraction of cold molecules from a cryogenic reservoir

We present a method which delivers a continuous, high-density beam of slow and internally cold polar molecules. In our source, warm molecules are first cooled by collisions with a cryogenic helium buffer gas. Cold molecules are then extracted by means of an electrostatic quadrupole guide. For ND3_3 the source produces fluxes up to (7±47)×1010(7 \pm ^{7}_{4}) \times 10^{10} molecules/s with peak densities up to (1.0±0.61.0)×109(1.0 \pm ^{1.0}_{0.6}) \times 10^9 molecules/cm3^3. For H2_2CO the population of rovibrational states is monitored by depletion spectroscopy, resulting in single-state populations up to (82±10)(82 \pm 10)%.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, changes to the text, updated figures and reference

Keine Angst vor Evaluationen - Eine Blaupause zur Evaluation der niederländischen Polizeireform

    Get PDF

Storage and Adiabatic Cooling of Polar Molecules in a Microstructured Trap

    Get PDF
We present a versatile electric trap for the exploration of a wide range of quantum phenomena in the interaction between polar molecules. The trap combines tunable fields, homogeneous over most of the trap volume, with steep gradient fields at the trap boundary. An initial sample of up to 10^8 CH3F molecules is trapped for as long as 60 seconds, with a 1/e storage time of 12 seconds. Adiabatic cooling down to 120 mK is achieved by slowly expanding the trap volume. The trap combines all ingredients for opto-electrical cooling, which, together with the extraordinarily long storage times, brings field-controlled quantum-mechanical collision and reaction experiments within reach

Degradation of polycrystalline HfO2-based gate dielectrics under nanoscale electrical stress

    Get PDF
The evolution of the electrical properties of HfO2/SiO2/Si dielectric stacks under electrical stress has been investigated using atomic force microscope-based techniques. The current through the grain boundaries (GBs), which is found to be higher than thorough the grains, is correlated to a higher density of positively charged defects at the GBs. Electrical stress produces different degradation kinetics in the grains and GBs, with a much shorter time to breakdown in the latter, indicating that GBs facilitate dielectric breakdown in high-k gate stacks
