Study of Pt and Rh based supported catalysts modified with tetrabutyltin for the selective hydrogenation of 4-methoxyacetophenone
Catalysts based on Pt and Rh modified with Sn(C4H9)4 were studied in the hydrogenation of 4-methoxyacetophenone. The selectivity to 1-(4-methoxyphenyl)ethanol was close to 100% at Sn/(Pt,Rh) = 1.0, however the catalytic activity decreased drastically. With respect to the balance between activity and selectivity the catalyst PtSnOM (Sn/Pt=0.4) showed the best performance.Centro de Investigación y Desarrollo en Ciencias Aplicada
Low-Temperature CO Oxidation over New Types of Sn–Pt/SiO2 Catalysts
Sn-Pt/SiO2 catalysts prepared by using controlled surface reactions are highly active in the low-temperature oxidation of CO. The results indicate that the high activity of these catalysts can be attributed to (i) the stabilization of tin-platinum alloy phases on the silica support, and (ii) the formation of "Sn4+-Pt" ensemble sires during the oxidation of CO. It is suggested that Sn4+ species formed in situ are involved in the activation of the CO molecule adsorbed at the neighboring Pt site. This activation strongly resembles that of the carbonyl group in unsaturated aldehydes over this type of Sn-Pt/SiO2 catalysts
