Quantitative evaluation of the specimens of Galanthus elwesii

    No full text
Aerial and underground parts of Galanthus elwesii Hooker fil. a wild-growing species from Karaburun, Akdag (İzmir) region, were collected during two different vegetation periods, namely flowering and fruiting seasons. Quality control determinations, which may establish basis for prospective monographs on Herba and Bulbus Galanthi, were carried out on the above-mentioned specimens. In this context, contents of humidity, ash and sulphated ash were also determined and results were reported as percentage values. Thin layer chromatographic (TLC) studies using various solvent systems were carried out with the aim of their utilization in the identification and purity control of these plant drugs. The assays on the total alkaloid contents of Herba and Bulbus Galanthi were performed by a titrimetric method, which was chosen experimentally to be the most suitable one among various such methods stated in DAB 10. Moreover, the investigated specimens were quantitatively analyzed for two of the principal alkaloids of Herba and Bulbus Galanthi, galanthamine and lycorine, by using a method based on spectrophotometry complemented with TLC

(-)-Padocin: A novel epoxylignan from Haplophyllum cappadocicum

    No full text
Haplophyllum cappadocicum (Rutaceae) of Turkish origin yielded a novel lignan, incorporating an unusual 6,9' fusion in a 9,9'-epoxylignan structure. Extensive 2D nmr experiments and catalytic hydrogenolysis are undertaken for the elucidation of structure with the relative configuration given in 1. © 1994
