Comportamiento sexual relacionado con redes sociales en los adolescentes
Adolescence is the period of growth between the ages of 10 and 19, where decision-making regarding their sexuality is of paramount importance because of the risks they face and by the influence of social networks. For this reason, the relationship between sexual behavior and social networks of adolescents aged 12 to 19 years in the Escuela Secundaria y de Bachilleres Oficial Diurna De Orizaba in the period February-July 2022 was determined. The research methodology is quantitative, non-experimental, prospective, cross-sectional and correlational, with a non-probabilistic class sample consisting of 154 students between 15 and 19 years old. The instrument "Addictive use of the internet and its relationship with sexual behavior in adolescents" with Cronbach's alpha index 0.876 was used. The results indicate a high level of risky sexual behavior of 38.3%. It was concluded that there is no relationship between sexual behavior and the use of social networksLa adolescencia es el período de crecimiento entre los 10 y 19 años, donde la toma de decisiones con respecto a su sexualidad es de suma importancia debido a los riesgos a los que se enfrentan y por la influencia de las redes sociales. Por esta razón se determinó indagar la relación que existe entre el comportamiento sexual y las redes sociales de los adolescentes de 12 a 19 años en la Escuela Secundaria y de Bachilleres Oficial Diurna De Orizaba en el periodo febrero-julio 2022. La metodología de la investigación fue cuantitativa, no experimental, prospectiva, transversal y correlacional, con una muestra de clase no probabilística constituida por 154 estudiantes de entre 15 a 19 años. Se utilizó el instrumento “Uso adictivo del internet y su relación con la conducta sexual en adolescentes” con índice de alfa de Cronbach 0.876. Los resultados señalan un alto nivel de comportamiento sexual de riesgo del 38.3%. Se concluyó que no existe relación entre el comportamiento sexual y el uso de las redes sociales
Dynamical Patterns of Cattle Trade Movements
Despite their importance for the spread of zoonotic diseases, our
understanding of the dynamical aspects characterizing the movements of farmed
animal populations remains limited as these systems are traditionally studied
as static objects and through simplified approximations. By leveraging on the
network science approach, here we are able for the first time to fully analyze
the longitudinal dataset of Italian cattle movements that reports the mobility
of individual animals among farms on a daily basis. The complexity and
inter-relations between topology, function and dynamical nature of the system
are characterized at different spatial and time resolutions, in order to
uncover patterns and vulnerabilities fundamental for the definition of targeted
prevention and control measures for zoonotic diseases. Results show how the
stationarity of statistical distributions coexists with a strong and
non-trivial evolutionary dynamics at the node and link levels, on all
timescales. Traditional static views of the displacement network hide important
patterns of structural changes affecting nodes' centrality and farms' spreading
potential, thus limiting the efficiency of interventions based on partial
longitudinal information. By fully taking into account the longitudinal
dimension, we propose a novel definition of dynamical motifs that is able to
uncover the presence of a temporal arrow describing the evolution of the system
and the causality patterns of its displacements, shedding light on mechanisms
that may play a crucial role in the definition of preventive actions

Cryopreservation Effect on Proliferative and Chondrogenic Potential of Human Chondrocytes Isolated from Superficial and Deep Cartilage
[Abstract]
Objectives: To compare the proliferative and chondrogenic potential of fresh and frozen chondrocytes isolated from superficial and deep articular cartilage biopsies.
Materials and Methodology: The study included 12 samples of fresh and frozen healthy human knee articular cartilage. Cell proliferation was tested at 3, 6 and 9 days. Studies of mRNA quantification, protein expression and immunofluorescence for proliferation and chondrogenic markers were performed.
Results: Stimulation of fresh and frozen chondrocytes from both superficial and deep cartilage with fetal bovine serum produced an increase in the proliferative capacity compared to the non-stimulated control group. In the stimulated fresh cells group, the proliferative capacity of cells from the deep biopsy was greater than that from cells from the superficial biopsy (0.046 vs 0.028, respectively, p<0.05). There was also a significant difference between the proliferative capacity of superficial zone fresh (0.028) and frozen (0.051) chondrocytes (p<0.05). CCND1 mRNA and protein expression levels, and immunopositivity for Ki67 revealed a higher proliferative capacity for fresh articular chondrocytes from deep cartilage. Regarding the chondrogenic potential, stimulated fresh cells showed higher SOX9 and Col II expression in chondrocytes from deep than from superficial zone (p<0.05, T student test).
Conclusions: The highest rate of cell proliferation and chondrogenic potential of fresh chondrocytes was found in cells obtained from deep cartilage biopsies, whereas there were no statistically significant differences in proliferative and chondrogenic capacity between biopsy origins with frozen chondrocytes. Pets as Sentinels of Human Exposure to Neurotoxic Metals
The idea that animals may be used as sentinels of environmental hazards
pending over humans and the associated public health implications is not a new one.
Nowadays pets are being used as bioindicators for the effects of environmental contaminants
in human populations. This is of paramount importance due to the large
increase in the worldwide distribution of synthetic chemicals, particularly in the
built environment. Companion animals share the habitat with humans being simultaneously
exposed to and suffering the same disease spectrum as their masters.
Moreover, their shorter latency periods (due to briefer lifespans) enable them to act
as early warning systems, allowing timely public health interventions. The rise on
ethical constraints on the use of animals and, consequently, on the sampling they
can be subjected to has led to the preferential use of noninvasive matrices, and in
this case we are looking into hair. This chapter focuses in three non-essential metals:
mercury, lead, and cadmium, due to their ubiquitous presence in the built environment
and their ability of affecting the mammal nervous system. There is a fairly
short amount of studies reporting the concentrations of these metals in pets’ hair,
particularly for cats. These studies are characterized, and the metal concentrations
corresponding to different parameters (e.g., age, sex, diet, rearing) are described in
order to provide the reader with a general vision on the use of this noninvasive
matrix on the studies conducted since the last two decades of the twentieth

Obstetric history and mammographic density: a population-based cross-sectional study in Spain (DDM-Spain)
High mammographic density (MD) is used as a phenotype risk marker for developing breast cancer. During pregnancy and lactation the breast attains full development, with a cellular-proliferation followed by a lobular-differentiation stage. This study investigates the influence of obstetric factors on MD among pre- and post-menopausal women. We enrolled 3,574 women aged 45–68 years who were participating in breast cancer screening programmes in seven screening centers. To measure MD, blind anonymous readings were taken by an experienced radiologist, using craniocaudal mammography and Boyd’s semiquantitative scale. Demographic and reproductive data were directly surveyed by purpose-trained staff at the date of screening. The association between MD and obstetric variables was quantified by ordinal logistic regression, with screening centre introduced as a random effect term. We adjusted for age, number of children and body mass index, and stratified by menopausal status. Parity was inversely associated with density, the probability of having high MD decreased by 16% for each new birth (P value < 0.001). Among parous women, a positive association was detected with duration of lactation [>9 months: odds ratio (OR) = 1.33; 95% confidence interval (CI) = 1.02–1.72] and weight of first child (>3,500 g: OR = 1.32; 95% CI = 1.12–1.54). Age at first birth showed a different effect in pre- and post-menopausal women (P value for interaction = 0.030). No association was found among pre-menopausal women. However, in post-menopausal women the probability of having high MD increased in women who had their first child after the age of 30 (OR = 1.53; 95% CI = 1.17–2.00). A higher risk associated with birth of twins was also mainly observed in post-menopausal women (OR = 2.02; 95% CI = 1.18–3.46). Our study shows a greater prevalence of high MD in mothers of advanced age at first birth, those who had twins, those who have breastfed for longer periods, and mothers whose first child had an elevated birth weight. These results suggest the influence of hormones and growth factors over the proliferative activity of the mammary gland
The Effects of Governmental Protected Areas and Social Initiatives for Land Protection on the Conservation of Mexican Amphibians
Traditionally, biodiversity conservation gap analyses have been focused on governmental protected areas (PAs). However, an increasing number of social initiatives in conservation (SICs) are promoting a new perspective for analysis. SICs include all of the efforts that society implements to conserve biodiversity, such as land protection, from private reserves to community zoning plans some of which have generated community-protected areas. This is the first attempt to analyze the status of conservation in Latin America when some of these social initiatives are included. The analyses were focused on amphibians because they are one of the most threatened groups worldwide. Mexico is not an exception, where more than 60% of its amphibians are endemic. We used a niche model approach to map the potential and real geographical distribution (extracting the transformed areas) of the endemic amphibians. Based on remnant distribution, all the species have suffered some degree of loss, but 36 species have lost more than 50% of their potential distribution. For 50 micro-endemic species we could not model their potential distribution range due to the small number of records per species, therefore the analyses were performed using these records directly. We then evaluated the efficiency of the existing set of governmental protected areas and established the contribution of social initiatives (private and community) for land protection for amphibian conservation. We found that most of the species have some proportion of their potential ecological niche distribution protected, but 20% are not protected at all within governmental PAs. 73% of endemic and 26% of micro-endemic amphibians are represented within SICs. However, 30 micro-endemic species are not represented within either governmental PAs or SICs. This study shows how the role of land conservation through social initiatives is therefore becoming a crucial element for an important number of species not protected by governmental PAs

La creciente epidemia de obesidad ha sido uno de los retos más importantes de salud pública en México durante los últimos años. Con apoyo de la Federación Mundial de Obesidad, en 2021 formamos un grupo de profesionales para identificar y resumir las acciones prioritarias en las que puede enfocarse nuestro país para hacer frente a esta epidemia. Al proceso de desarrollo y discusión de este grupo se sumaron más de 1 000 profesionales de la salud para retomar recomendaciones de documentos y guías de alto nivel previamente publicados. En conmemoración del Día Mundial de la Obesidad, en este 2022 se presenta esta postura como insumo para el desarrollo de acciones en el ámbito profesional y de los diferentes sectores, en la que se incluyen 10 recomendaciones de acción, desde la perspectiva poblacional hasta la atención individualizada, y se enfatiza en la importancia de la participación social, de las intervenciones integrales con visión centrada en la persona y de la sostenibilidad planetaria, además de mejorar la educación y las campañas de difusión, propiciar un ambiente promotor de entornos activos y blindar de conflictos de interés los esfuerzos de prevención y control. La postura hace un llamado para abordar la obesidad de manera seria, con base en la evidencia científica, oportuna e integral, con enfoque de curso de vida, de forma ética y sensible, y sin perpetuar las barreras del estigma de peso en la sociedad
