How to Find Suitable Ontologies Using an Ontology-based WWW Broker
Knowledge reuse by means of outologies now faces three important problems: (1) there are no standardized identifying features that characterize ontologies from the user point of view; (2) there are no web sites using the same logical organization, presenting relevant information about ontologies; and (3) the search for appropriate ontologies is hard, time-consuming and usually fruitless. To solve the above problems, we present: (1) a living set of features that allow us to characterize ontologies from the user point of view and have the same logical organization; (2) a living domain ontology about ontologies (called ReferenceOntology) that gathers, describes and has links to existing ontologies; and (3) (ONTO)2Agent, the ontology-based www broker about ontologies that uses the Reference Ontology as a source of its knowledge and retrieves descriptions of ontologies that satisfy a given set of constraints. (ONTO)~Agent is available at http://delicias.dia.fi.upm.es/REFERENCE ONTOLOGY
Estimation of unsteady aerodynamic forces using pointwise velocity data
A novel method to estimate unsteady aerodynamic force coefficients from
pointwise velocity measurements is presented. The methodology is based on a
resolvent-based reduced-order model which requires the mean flow to obtain
physical flow structures and pointwise measurement to calibrate their
amplitudes. A computationally-affordable time-stepping methodology to obtain
resolvent modes in non-trivial flow domains is introduced and compared to
previous existing matrix-free and matrix-forming strategies. The technique is
applied to the unsteady flow around an inclined square cylinder at low Reynolds
number. The potential of the methodology is demonstrated through good agreement
between the fluctuating pressure distribution on the cylinder and the temporal
evolution of the unsteady lift and drag coefficients predicted by the model and
those computed by direct numerical simulation.Comment: In revie
Gravitational waveforms with controlled accuracy
A partially first-order form of the characteristic formulation is introduced
to control the accuracy in the computation of gravitational waveforms produced
by highly distorted single black hole spacetimes. Our approach is to reduce the
system of equations to first-order differential form on the angular
derivatives, while retaining the proven radial and time integration schemes of
the standard characteristic formulation. This results in significantly improved
accuracy over the standard mixed-order approach in the extremely nonlinear
post-merger regime of binary black hole collisions.Comment: Revised version, published in Phys. Rev. D, RevTeX, 16 pages, 4

Quasi-exact solvability beyond the SL(2) algebraization
We present evidence to suggest that the study of one dimensional
quasi-exactly solvable (QES) models in quantum mechanics should be extended
beyond the usual \sla(2) approach. The motivation is twofold: We first show
that certain quasi-exactly solvable potentials constructed with the \sla(2)
Lie algebraic method allow for a new larger portion of the spectrum to be
obtained algebraically. This is done via another algebraization in which the
algebraic hamiltonian cannot be expressed as a polynomial in the generators of
\sla(2). We then show an example of a new quasi-exactly solvable potential
which cannot be obtained within the Lie-algebraic approach.Comment: Submitted to the proceedings of the 2005 Dubna workshop on

Explosive Synchronization Transitions in Scale-free Networks
The emergence of explosive collective phenomena has recently attracted much
attention due to the discovery of an explosive percolation transition in
complex networks. In this Letter, we demonstrate how an explosive transition
shows up in the synchronization of complex heterogeneous networks by
incorporating a microscopic correlation between the structural and the
dynamical properties of the system. The characteristics of this explosive
transition are analytically studied in a star graph reproducing the results
obtained in synthetic scale-free networks. Our findings represent the first
abrupt synchronization transition in complex networks thus providing a deeper
understanding of the microscopic roots of explosive critical phenomena.Comment: 6 pages and 5 figures. To appear in Physical Review Letter
A conjecture on Exceptional Orthogonal Polynomials
Exceptional orthogonal polynomial systems (X-OPS) arise as eigenfunctions of
Sturm-Liouville problems and generalize in this sense the classical families of
Hermite, Laguerre and Jacobi. They also generalize the family of CPRS
orthogonal polynomials. We formulate the following conjecture: every
exceptional orthogonal polynomial system is related to a classical system by a
Darboux-Crum transformation. We give a proof of this conjecture for codimension
2 exceptional orthogonal polynomials (X2-OPs). As a by-product of this
analysis, we prove a Bochner-type theorem classifying all possible X2-OPS. The
classification includes all cases known to date plus some new examples of
X2-Laguerre and X2-Jacobi polynomials
