Identifying Gaps on IT Governance Capabilities: Findings in the Logistics and Transportation Industry in Colombia

    Get PDF
Nowadays, Information Technology (IT) governance is a core activity adopted or expected by most organizations to control the behaviour of IT assets. However, this discipline faces a growing gap between the views, priorities and practices of academics and practitioners. This paper presents a consolidated view of capabilities for implementing IT governance within an organization. We evaluated these capabilities in the practice of Colombian companies within the logistic industry. The main gaps on adopting IT governance capabilities are discussed and research insights are provided for aligning theory and practice

Automatic gridding of microarray images based on spatial constrained K-means and Voronoi diagrams

    Get PDF
Images from complementary DNA (cDNA) microarrays need to be processed automatically due to the huge amount of information that they provide. In addition, automatic processing is also required to implement batch processes able to manage large image databases. Most of existing softwares for microarray image processing are semiautomatic, and they usually need user intervention to select several parameters such as positional marks on the grids, or to correct the results of different stages of the automatic processing. On the other hand, many of the available automatic algorithms fail when dealing with rotated images or misaligned grids. In this work, a novel automatic algorithm for cDNA image gridding based on spatial constrained K-means and Voronoi diagrams is presented. The proposed algorithm consists of several steps, viz., image denoising by means of median filtering, spot segmentation using Canny edge detector and morphological reconstruction, and gridding based on spatial constrained K-means and Voronoi diagrams computation. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated on microarray images from public databases yielding promising results. The algorithm was compared with other existing methods and it shows to be more robust to rotations and misalignments of the grids.Red de Universidades con Carreras en Informática (RedUNCI

Flavored Non-Minimal Left-Right Symmetric Model Fermion Masses and Mixings

A complete study on the fermion masses and flavor mixing is presented in a non-minimal left-right symmetric model (NMLRMS) where the S3Z2Z2e{\bf S}_{3}\otimes {\bf Z}_{2}\otimes {\bf Z}^{e}_{2} flavor symmetry drives the Yukawa couplings. In the quark sector, the mass matrices possess a kind of the generalized Fritzsch textures that allow us to fit the CKM mixing matrix in good agreement to the last experimental data. In the lepton sector, on the other hand, a soft breaking of the μτ\mu\leftrightarrow \tau symmetry provides a non zero and non maximal reactor and atmospheric angles, respectively. The inverted and degenerate hierarchy are favored in the model where a set of free parameters is found to be consistent with the current neutrino data.Comment: 23 pages, 9 figures. references added, typos corrected, JCGI added his current institution;conclusions rewrote and unchanged results. COVID-19 Lockdown and Disney+ strategy on social networks on its launch during the State of alarm in Spain

    Get PDF
The launch of Disney+ in Spain in March 2020 coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic and a period of home confinement for many Spaniards. This study examines the advertising and engagement strategy used by Disney+ on Twitter and Instagram, analyzing 2,268 messages. The platform’s social media use is similar to that of its competitors, with Twitter used for user engagement and Instagram used for content promotion. However, the study finds that the platform missed the opportunity to emphasize its unique qualities and appeal to the brand’s values. Despite this, Disney+ generated significant engagement during its launch month, reflecting high levels of user anticipation. Popular original productions such as The Mandalorian and Aladdin, as well as acquired content like The Simpsons, indicate the brand’s focus on a family or broad-spectrum target audience, in contrast to the younger and niche audiences favored by its competitors.

A Framework to Evaluate Software Developer’s Productivity The VALORTIA Project

    Get PDF
Currently, there is a lack in companies developing software in relation to assessing their staff’s productivity before executing software projects, with the aim of improving effectiveness and efficiency. QuEF (Quality Evaluation Framework) is a framework that allows defining quality management tasks based on a model. The main purpose of this framework is twofold: improve an entity’s continuous quality, and given a context, decide between a set of entity’s instances on the most appropriate one. Thus, the aim of this paper is to make this framework available to evaluate productivity of professionals along software development and select the most appropriate experts to implement the suggested project. For this goal, Valortia platform, capable of carrying out this task by following the QuEF framework guidelines, is designed. Valortia is a platform to certify users' knowledge on a specific area and centralize all certification management in its model by means of providing protocols and methods for a suitable management, improving efficiency and effectiveness, reducing cost and ensuring continuous quality.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación TIN2013-46928-C3-3-

Improving the communication with stakeholders: the infrastructure degradation index and the infrastructure histogram

[EN] Water infrastructures are rapidly ageing without being properly replaced. Communicating the state of the network and the sector¿s needs to stakeholders is key for guaranteeing the sustainability of water and sewage systems. The infrastructure value index (IVI) is becoming a standard in the water industry as a communication tool; however, as a single value metric, it can mask key information. The complementary use of the infrastructure degradation index (IDI) and the infrastructure histogram (Hi) can provide a better understanding of the network's state while maintaining the simplicity of the analysis needed for public dissemination. The IVI is focused on the value of the infrastructure, the IDI on its median remaining life. The HI provides a detailed but simple picture of the network's remaining life, providing a clear idea of the magnitude of the investments needed in the future for maintaining the infrastructureEstruch-Juan, ME.; Cabrera Rochera, E.; Gomez Selles, E.; Del Teso-March, R. Effects of saline reclaimed waters and deficit irrigation on Citrus physiology assessed by UAV remote sensing

    Get PDF
The aim of our research was to discover the effects of the long-term irrigation with saline reclaimed (RW) and transfer (TW) water and different irrigation strategies: control (C) and regulated deficit irrigation (RDI) on yield and fruit quality of grapefruit at harvest and during cold storage. TW-RDI treatment decreased tree canopy (TC) and crop load, resulting in a 21% reduction of fruit yield. Regarding fruit quality, RW notably decreased peel thickness at harvest (about 8%); however, this difference was not remained during cold storage. Sugar/acid ratio was mainly increased by RDI, but also by RW, due to an important increase in soluble solid content (11% of average value for TW-RDI, RW-C and RW-RDI). In addition, RDI combined with RW, significantly increased the number of fruits in small category 5 at the end of cold storage. Finally, neither ratio yield/TC nor irrigation water productivity were affected by any irrigation treatments. This study was supported by two CICYT (AGL2010-17553 and AGL2013-49047-C2-482 515 2-R) projects and SIRRIMED (KBBE-2009-1- 2-03, PROPOSAL N◦245159) 483 project. Potenziale del metodo Service-Learning per la promozione della cittadinanza e l’educazione del carattere

    Get PDF
Promoting citizenship in present-day societies means reinforcing those aspects of people’s characters which will allow them to behave responsibly and actively and be involved in achieving the common good. We believe that the main difficulty to be found in civic education nowadays is a lack of ethics. Learning to be a good citizen is a lifelong task and practical wisdom which not only demands intelligence to recognize which traits improve our life in society but also the will to practice them. Character education is a way of understanding and identifying moral education. It aims to reaffirm the inescapable ethical dimension of education. This proposal has its origins in classical Greece, but it was not until the 1980s and 90s that the ethics of virtue received a great boost and became the basis for a good deal of contemporary character education. It is not by chance that character education has grown so much in importance over the last few years, especially in the English-speaking world, in parallel with an increase in Service-Learning methodology
