Flavor constraints in a Bosonic Technicolor model
Flavor constraints in a bosonic Technicolor model are considered. We
illustrate different sources for their origin, and emphasize in particular the
role played by the vector states present in the Technicolor model. This feature
is the essential difference in comparison to an analogous model with two
fundamental Higgs scalar doublets.Comment: 16 pages, 13 figure
Triboson interpretations of the ATLAS diboson excess
The ATLAS excess in fat jet pair production is kinematically compatible with
the decay of a heavy resonance into two gauge bosons plus an extra particle.
This hypothesis would explain the absence of such a large excess in the
analogous CMS analysis of fat dijet final states, as well as the negative
results of diboson resonance searches in the semi-leptonic decay modes. If the
extra particle is the Higgs boson, this hypothesis might also explain
-statistical fluctuations aside- why the CMS search for WH resonances in the
semi-leptonic channel finds some excess while in the fully hadronic one it does

Basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map
Fractal basin structure in the two-dimensional dissipative circle map is
examined in detail. Numerically obtained basin appears to be riddling in the
parameter region where two periodic orbits co-exist near a boundary crisis, but

The significance of macrophage phenotype in cancer and biomaterials
Macrophages have long been known to exhibit heterogeneous and plastic phenotypes. They show functional diversity with roles in homeostasis, tissue repair, immunity and disease. There exists a spectrum of macrophage phenotypes with varied effector functions, molecular determinants, cytokine and chemokine profiles, as well as receptor expression. In tumor microenvironments, the subset of macrophages known as tumor-associated macrophages generates byproducts that enhance tumor growth and angiogenesis, making them attractive targets for anti-cancer therapeutics. With respect to wound healing and the foreign body response, there is a necessity for balance between pro-inflammatory, wound healing, and regulatory macrophages in order to achieve successful implantation of a scaffold for tissue engineering. A Phase I/II Study of Crizotinib for Recurrent or Refractory Anaplastic Lymphoma Kinase-Positive Anaplastic Large Cell Lymphoma and a Phase I Study of Crizotinib for Recurrent or Refractory Neuroblastoma : Study Protocol for a Multicenter Single-arm Open-label Trial
Crizotinib is an inhibitor of multiple tyrosine kinases, including the anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK). Responses to crizotinib have also been reported in patients with ALK-positive anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) and solid tumors with ALK-mutation, including neuroblastoma. Optimal treatment for patients with recurrent or refractory ALK-positive ALCL and neuroblastoma has not been established. There is a need to develop new drugs for these patients. The objectives of this trial are to evaluate the tolerability and safety of crizotinib in Japanese patients with recurrent/refractory ALK-positive ALCL or neuroblastoma (phase I) and its efficacy in recurrent/refractory ALK-positive ALCL (phase II)
Pseudo Goldstone Bosons Phenomenology in Minimal Walking Technicolor
We construct the non-linear realized Lagrangian for the Goldstone Bosons
associated to the breaking pattern of SU(4) to SO(4). This pattern is expected
to occur in any Technicolor extension of the standard model featuring two Dirac
fermions transforming according to real representations of the underlying gauge
group. We concentrate on the Minimal Walking Technicolor quantum number
assignments with respect to the standard model symmetries. We demonstrate that
for, any choice of the quantum numbers, consistent with gauge and Witten
anomalies the spectrum of the pseudo Goldstone Bosons contains electrically
doubly charged states which can be discovered at the Large Hadron Collider.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure
A Multicenter, Open-label, Clinical Trial to Assess the Effectiveness and Safety of Allogeneic Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation Using Reduced-intensity Conditioning in Relapsed/refractory Anaplastic Large-cell Lymphoma in Children
No standard treatment for relapsed or refractory anaplastic large-cell lymphoma (ALCL) has been established. This study is a multicenter, open-label trial to examine the effectiveness and safety of transplantation with reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) for patients under 20 years old with relapsed or refractory ALCL. We defined RIC as the administration of fludarabine (30 mg/m2/day) for five days plus melphalan (70 mg/m2/day) for two days and total body irradiation at 4 Gy, followed by allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
Increased secretion of salivary glands produced by facial vibrotactile stimulation
Patients with low-back pain can be evaluated immediately by means of an electrical tool that produces bony vibration to the lumbar spinal processes (Yrjama M, Vanharanta H. Bony vibrotactile stimulation: A new, non-invasive method for examining intradiscal pain. European Spine Journal 1994;3:233–235). In the rehabilitation of masticatory disturbance and dysphagia, an electric toothbrush is commonly used as an oral motor exercise tool for the facilitation of blood flow and metabolism in the orofacial region in Japanese hospitals. However, subjects receiving vibration in the facial regions reported increased salivary secretion. We attempted to develop an oral motor exercise apparatus modified by a headphone headset that was fixed and could be used for extended periods. The vibration apparatus of the heating conductor is protected by the polyethyle methacrylate (dental mucosa protective material), and electric motors for vibration control of the PWM circuit. We examined the amount of salivation during vibration stimuli on the bilateral masseter muscle belly, using a cotton roll positioned at the opening of the secretory duct for 3 min. Although the quantity of salivation in each subject showed various and large fluctuations in the right and left sides of the parotid and submandibular and sublingual glands, one or more of the salivary glands were effectively stimulated by 89 Hz vibration. The reported apparatus will be useful as an additional method in orofacial rehabilitation

Comprehensive Modeling of Multimode Fiber Sensors for Refractive Index Measurement and Experimental Validation
We propose and develop a comprehensive model for estimating the refractive index (RI) response over three potential sensing zones in a multimode fiber. The model has been developed based on a combined ray optics, Gaussian beam, and wave optics analysis coupled to the consideration of the injected interrogating lightwave characteristics and validated experimentally through the realization of three sensors with different lengths of stripped cladding sections as the sensing region. The experimental results highly corroborate and validate the simulation output from the model for the three RI sensing zones. The sensors can be employed over a very wide dynamic RI range from 1.316 to over 1.608 at a wavelength of 1550 nm, with the best resolution of 2.2447 × 10−5 RI unit (RIU) obtained in Zone II for a 1-cm sensor length
Classification of the height and flexibility of the medial longitudinal arch of the foot
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The risk of developing injuries during standing work may vary between persons with different foot types. High arched and low arched feet, as well as rigid and flexible feet, are considered to have different injury profiles, while those with normal arches may sustain fewer injuries. However, the cut-off values for maximum values (subtalar position during weight-bearing) and range of motion (ROM) values (difference between subtalar neutral and subtalar resting position in a weight-bearing condition) for the medial longitudinal arch (MLA) are largely unknown. The purpose of this study was to identify cut-off values for maximum values and ROM of the MLA of the foot during static tests and to identify factors influencing foot posture.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The participants consisted of 254 volunteers from Central and Northern Denmark (198 m/56 f; age 39.0 ± 11.7 years; BMI 27.3 ± 4.7 kg/m<sup>2</sup>). Navicular height (NH), longitudinal arch angle (LAA) and Feiss line (FL) were measured for either the left or the right foot in a subtalar neutral position and subtalar resting position. Maximum values and ROM were calculated for each test. The 95% and 68% prediction intervals were used as cut-off limits. Multiple regression analysis was used to detect influencing factors on foot posture.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The 68% cut-off values for maximum MLA values and MLA ROM for NH were 3.6 to 5.5 cm and 0.6 to 1.8 cm, respectively, without taking into account the influence of other variables. Normal maximum LAA values were between 131 and 152° and normal LAA ROM was between -1 and 13°. Normal maximum FL values were between -2.6 and -1.2 cm and normal FL ROM was between -0.1 and 0.9 cm. Results from the multivariate linear regression revealed an association between foot size with FL, LAA, and navicular drop.</p> <p>Conclusions</p> <p>The cut-off values presented in this study can be used to categorize people performing standing work into groups of different foot arch types. The results of this study are important for investigating a possible link between arch height and arch movement and the development of injuries.</p
