The title compound, C15H22NO4S+·Cl−, is a hydrolysis product of lesatropane [(1R,3S,5R,6S)-6-acetoxy-3-tosyloxytropane] hydrochloride, a potential antiglaucoma agent. As in lesatropane, the piperidine and pyrrolidine rings in the title compound adopt chair and envelope conformations, respectively. There are two molecules in the unit cell with similar conformations. The crystal structure is stabilized by intermolecular O—H⋯Cl and N—H⋯Cl hydrogen bonds

Optimal and near-optimal frequency-hopping sequences based on Gaussian period

    Get PDF
Frequency-hopping sequences (FHSs) have a decisive influence on the whole frequency-hopping communication system. The Hamming correlation function plays an important role in evaluating the performance of FHSs. Constructing FHS sets that meet the theoretical bounds is crucial for the research and development of frequency-hopping communication systems. In this paper, three new classes of optimal FHSs based on trace functions are constructed. Two of them are optimal FHSs and the corresponding periodic Hamming autocorrelation value is calculated by using the known Gaussian period. It is shown that the new FHSs are optimal according to the Lempel-Greenberger bound. The third class of FHSs is the near-optimal FHSs

Achieving a high-Q response in metamaterials by manipulating the toroidal excitations

The excitation of toroidal multipoles in metamaterials is investigated for a high- Q response at a subwavelength scale. In this paper, we explore the optimization of toroidal excitations in a planar metamaterial comprised of asymmetric split ring resonators (ASRRs). It is found that the scattering power of a toroidal dipole can be remarkably strengthened by adjusting the characteristic parameter of ASRRs: an asymmetric factor. Interestingly, the improvement in toroidal excitation accompanies an increment of the Q factor of the toroidal metamaterial; it is shown that both the scattering power of the toroidal dipole and the Q factor increase more than one order by changing the asymmetric factor of ASRRs. The optimization in the excitation of a toroidal multipole provides an opportunity to further increase the Q factor of the metamaterial and boost light-matter interactions at the subwavelength scale for potential applications in low-power nonlinear processing and sensitive photonic applications

In the title compound, C15H17ClN2OS, the thiazole ring, which is essentially planar with a maximum deviation of 0.044 (3) Å, makes a dihedral angle of 54.76 (8)° with the benzene ring. In the crystal, adjacent molecules related by twofold rotation symmetry are linked by pairs of N—H⋯N hydrogen bonds

Effect of p21Waf1 and p27Kip1 on centrosome replication and proliferation of breast cancer cell

Aberrant centrosome numbers are detected in virtually all cancers, increasing the risk for cell division errors and chromosomal instability. Deregulation of the centrosome duplication cycle is considered as the major contributing factor for abnormal amplification of centrosomes. p21Waf1 and p27Kip1, general CDK inhibitors by inhibiting cyclin-dependent kinase 2 (CDK2)/cyclin E and cyclin A complexes, controlled the initiation and progress of centrosome duplication . We transfected p21 Waf1, p27 Kip1 or p21 Waf1- p27 Kip1 genes into MCF-7 cells by lipofection to explore the effect of the genes on centrosome duplication and proliferation of breast cancer cell. The result shows that the cell growth was obviously inhibited after being transfected, resulting in an accumulation of cells in G1 and the proportion of cells which contained abnormal centrosomes was obviously decreased. Comparing with p21 Waf1or p27 Kip1, the effects of p21Waf1- p27 Kip1 genes are more significative. These results suggest that p21Waf1 and p27Kip1 genes could inhibit the growth of human breast cancer cells and reverse abnormal duplication of centrosomes. p21Waf1 and p27Kip1 cooperate to regulate centrosome duplication and cell cycle progress, indicating p21 Waf1- p27 Kip1 combined gene might be potential therapeutic agents of breast cancer which reveals suppressed p21Waf1 and p27Kip1 expression

Graphene Plasmonics: A Platform for 2D Optics

    Get PDF
2D optics is gradually emerging as a frontier in modern optics. Plasmons in graphene provide a prominent platform for 2D optics in which the light is squeezed into atomic scale. This report highlights some recent progresses in graphene plasmons toward the 2D optics. The launch, observation, and advanced manipulation of propagating graphene plasmons for 2D optical circuits are described. Representative achievements associated with graphene metasurfaces, challenges, recent progresses like photoexcited graphene metasurfaces, and the transformation optics linking 2D to bulk optics with singularity are investigated

Effects of Chinese Formula Jueyin Granules on Psoriasis in an Animal Model

Although Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) is known to be effective for psoriasis patients, the responsible mechanisms still remain poorly understood. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the effect of one formula, named Jueyin granules (JYG) in the mouse model of the vaginal epithelium and tail epidermis. Additionally, we also determined the anti-inflammatory effects of JYG in an imiquimod- (IMQ-) induced psoriasis-like skin mouse model. Our results show that JYG can attenuate the IMQ-induced psoriasis-like inflammation, accompanied with increased epidermal hyperplasia. We also measured estrogenic stage mitosis of vaginal epithelial cells and the formation of granular cell layers in male mouse tails per 100 scales, as well as the tissue nitric oxide (NO) and malondialdehyde (MDA) levels using the ELISA method. The results suggest that JYG significantly inhibited mitosis in mouse vaginal epithelial cells, promoted the formation of the squamous epidermal granular layer in mice tails, and reduced the levels of NO and MDA in an imiquimod-induced psoriasis-like skin mouse model after 14 d (P<0.05). These results demonstrate that JYG might be an effective clinical treatment for psoriasis and the effects may be related to inhibited keratinocytes proliferation, improved parakeratotic epidermal cells, and reduced expression of NO and MDA

Rapid and Visual Detection of Trichinella Spp. Using a Lateral Flow Strip-Based Recombinase Polymerase Amplification (LF-RPA) Assay

Trichinella spp., are amongst the most widespread parasitic nematodes, primarily live in the muscles of a wide range of vertebrate animals and humans. Human infection occurs by ingestion of raw or undercooked meat containing Trichinella larvae. Accurate diagnosis of Trichinella spp. infection in domestic animals is crucial for the effective prevention and control of human trichinellosis. In the present study, a simple, rapid and accurate diagnostic assay was developed combining recombinase polymerase amplification and a lateral flow strip (LF-RPA) to detect Trichinella spp. infection. The LF-RPA assay targets Trichinella spp. mitochondrial small-subunit ribosomal RNA (rrnS) gene and can detect as low as 100 fg DNA of Trichinella strains, which was approximately 10 times more sensitive than a conventional PCR assay. The LF-RPA assay can be performed within 10–25 min, at a wide range of temperatures (25–45°C) and showed no cross-reactivity with DNA of other parasites and related host species of Trichinella. The performance of the LF-RPA assay in the presence of high concentration of PCR inhibitor was better than that of a conventional PCR assay. Results obtained by LF-RPA assay for the detection of experimentally infected mice were comparable to the results obtained by using a conventional PCR, achieving 100% specificity and high sensitivity. These results present the developed LF-RPA assay as a new simple, specific, sensitive, rapid and convenient method for the detection of Trichinella infection in domestic animals
