What do we know about multidimensional poverty in China: its dynamics, causes, and implications for sustainability
Poverty is a primary obstacle to achieving sustainable development. Therefore, exploring the spatiotemporal dynamics and causes of poverty is of great significance to the sustainable poverty reduction of the “post poverty alleviation era” in China. This paper used the multisource big data of 2022 counties in China from 2000 to 2015 to establish a comprehensive evaluation framework to explore the multidimensional poverty situation in China. The results showed the following findings: There is an obvious spatiotemporal heterogeneity of multidimensional poverty, showing a typical stair-like gradient from high in the west to low in the east, with the poverty level in state-designated poverty counties higher and intensifying over time. The spatial differentiation of multidimensional poverty is contributed to by multiple factors, in which the geographical condition has a stronger impact on state-designated poverty counties, while natural endowment and human resources have a stronger effect on non-state-designated poverty counties. These things considered, the regional poverty causes were relatively stable before 2015, but the poverty spatial agglomeration of some regions in the Northwest, Northeast, and Yangtze River Economic Belt has undergone significant changes after 2015. These findings can help policymakers better target plans to eliminate various types of poverty in different regions
Consistency check of charged hadron multiplicities and fragmentation functions in SIDIS
We derived the conditions on certain combinations of integrals of the
fragmentation functions of pion using HERMES data of the sum for the charged
pion multiplicities from semi-inclusive deep-inelastic scattering (SIDIS) off
the deuteron target. In our derivation the nucleon parton distribution
functions (PDFs) are assumed to be isospin SU(2) symmetric. Similar conditions
have also been obtained for the fragmentation functions (FFs) of kaon by the
sum of charged kaon multiplicities as well. We have chosen several FFs to study
the impact of those conditions we have derived. Among those FFs, only that
produced in the nonlocal chiral-quark model (NLQM) constantly satisfy the
conditions. Furthermore, the ratios of the strange PDFs and the
nonstrange PDFs extracted from the charged pion and kaon
multiplicities differ from each other significantly. Finally, we demonstrate
that the HERMES pion multiplicity data is unlikely to be compatible with the
two widely-used PDFs, namely CTEQ6M and NNPDF3.0.Comment: 11 pages, 5 fig
Rapid onset of treatment effects on psychosis, depression, and mania in patients with acute exacerbation of schizoaffective disorder following treatment with oral extended-release paliperidone
AbstractBackgroundPatients with schizoaffective disorder (SCA) experience complicated interplays of psychotic, depressive, and manic symptoms. Paliperidone extended-release (pali ER) tablets have been shown to be efficacious in these patients, but treatment response has not been studied relative to the onset of effects for these symptom domains.MethodsIn a pooled analysis of data from two 6-week, randomized, placebo-controlled studies, the onset of treatment effects with oral pali ER was evaluated by symptom domain (psychosis, depression, mania) in patients with an acute SCA exacerbation. Subjects were categorized as having prominent psychotic (Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale score >70), depressive (Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression–21 score ≥16), or manic (Young Mania Rating Scale score ≥16) symptoms at baseline.ResultsOf the 614 patients in these analyses, 597 (97.2%), 411 (66.9%), and 488 (79.5%) had prominent psychotic, depressive, and manic symptoms at baseline, respectively. Pali ER treatment was associated with rapid and significant improvement of all three symptom domains versus placebo within 1 week of initiation, regardless of whether treatment was given as monotherapy or in combination with mood stabilizers and/or antidepressants. Adverse events were similar to those reported in the original published studies.LimitationsThis post hoc analysis of two phase 3 trials requires confirmation in prospective studies.ConclusionThis pooled analysis suggests that treatment with pali ER is associated with rapid control of psychotic, depressive, and manic symptoms in patients with SCA. Its findings support the benefit of pali ER as a primary treatment for the management of SCA
DeltaEdit: Exploring Text-free Training for Text-Driven Image Manipulation
Text-driven image manipulation remains challenging in training or inference
flexibility. Conditional generative models depend heavily on expensive
annotated training data. Meanwhile, recent frameworks, which leverage
pre-trained vision-language models, are limited by either per text-prompt
optimization or inference-time hyper-parameters tuning. In this work, we
propose a novel framework named \textit{DeltaEdit} to address these problems.
Our key idea is to investigate and identify a space, namely delta image and
text space that has well-aligned distribution between CLIP visual feature
differences of two images and CLIP textual embedding differences of source and
target texts. Based on the CLIP delta space, the DeltaEdit network is designed
to map the CLIP visual features differences to the editing directions of
StyleGAN at training phase. Then, in inference phase, DeltaEdit predicts the
StyleGAN's editing directions from the differences of the CLIP textual
features. In this way, DeltaEdit is trained in a text-free manner. Once
trained, it can well generalize to various text prompts for zero-shot inference
without bells and whistles. Code is available at
