(Excerpt) Luke\u27s empty tomb story has several typically Lukan features. First, the scene has an aura of calm when compared to Mark\u27s report that the women ran away frightened and dumbstruck, or Matthew\u27s picture of the angel who comes and scares the soldiers to death. This same calmness was in evidence throughout Luke\u27s passion narrative. Second, the two men whose clothing reminds the reader of the Transfiguration in Luke (9:29-30), and whose question to the women reminds the reader of the ascension scene in Acts (1:10-11), speak a message which is one of Luke\u27s most consistent themes: It was necessary ( dei) that the Son of Man be delivered ... and on the third day rise. Third, the centrality of Jerusalem in Luke is accommodated in the same speech, as the women are not bidden to go to Galilee as in Matthew and Mark. Instead, they are to remember what Jesus had said while they were all still in Galilee

(Excerpt) I never settled on an opening line for this presentation, so I\u27ll simply tell you that it\u27s a humbling thing to stand here today charged with giving the keynote address for a gathering of the Institute for Liturgical Studies. I have attended this conference for many years-not for as long as many of you, but in twenty-six years at Valparaiso University I recall only one institute I missed completely. That means I\u27ve heard at least a hundred institute talks from this podium, and the excellence of the speakers here has consistently enriched and encouraged, sometimes entertained, and often awed me. Thus, it\u27s an honor, a weighty matter, to be here

An Act of Courage: Providing Space for African American Graduate Students to Express Their Feelings of Disconnectedness

The purpose of this article is to discuss the lived experiences of African American graduate students (master’s level) enrolled at a predominantly white institution (PWI). I explore the experiences of graduate students lacking connection to their institution. I will also explore how institutional and systemic racism impact creating a space for African American graduate students to persist. I examine how persistence allows for these students to complete their degrees and feel a sense of connectedness to the institution. I will use the television (TV) series A Different World and The Quad to draw comparison and contrast to African American students’ sense of belonging and connectedness. There is a gap that exists within current literature that focuses on master’s level African American learners. Therefore, it is often difficult for the gatekeepers at majority white institutions to recognize this urgent need for change. Students desire student affairs professionals who look like them (value of sameness). This article is intended to provide context for scholars, scholar-practitioners, institutions, and students regarding African American graduate student experiences. For the purpose of this article, Black and African American will be used interchangeably. This is because Black is meant to be inclusive for members of the African Diaspora who identify as African American, African, Afro-Latinx, or Afro-Caribbean

ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS OF FARMER PARTICIPATION IN THE DAIRY TERMINATION PROGRAM IN NORTH CAROLINA AND VIRGINIA

Farm-level data are used to estimate equations explaining the probability of bidding and the level of the bid for the 1986 Dairy Termination Program. Participation was attractive to older farmers, to those who were not planning to transfer the farm to a family member, to less experienced farmers, and to those using less sophisticated management techniques. Schooling, off-farm work, and nonfarm experience did not have significant effects. The participation pattern suggests that the long-term effects of the program on milk supply are small.Farm Management,

Hybrid rocket performance

A hybrid rocket is a system consisting of a solid fuel grain and a gaseous or liquid oxidizer. Figure 1 shows three popular hybrid propulsion cycles that are under current consideration. NASA MSFC has teamed with industry to test two hybrid propulsion systems that will allow scaling to motors of potential interest for Titan and Atlas systems, as well as encompassing the range of interest for SEI lunar ascent stages and National Launch System Cargo Transfer Vehicle (NLS CTV) and NLS deorbit systems. Hybrid systems also offer advantages as moderate-cost, environmentally acceptable propulsion system. The objective of this work was to recommend a performance prediction methodology for hybrid rocket motors. Utility of Fear Severity and Individual Resilience Scoring as a Surge Capacity, Triage Management Tool during Large-Scale, Bio-event Disasters

Threats of bioterrorism and emerging infectious disease pandemics may result in fear related consequences. Fear based signs and symptoms, if left undetected and untreated, may be extremely debilitating and lead to chronic problems with risk of permanent damage to the brain’s locus coeruleus stress response circuits. The triage management of susceptible, exposed, and infectious victims seeking care must be sensitive and specific enough to identify individuals with excessive levels of fear in order to address the nuances of fear-based symptoms at the initial point of contact. These acute conditions, which include hyper-vigilant fear, are best managed by timely and effective information, rapid evaluation, and possibly medication that uniquely addresses the locus-coeruleus driven noradrenalin overactivation. This article recommends that a fear and resilience (FR) checklist be included as an essential triage tool to identify those most at risk. This checklist has the utility of rapid usage and capacity to respond to limitations brought about by surge capacity requirements. Whereas the utility of such a checklist is evident, predictive validity studies will be required in the future. It is important to note that a unique feature of the FR Checklist is that in addition to identifying individuals who are emotionally, medically, and socially hypo-resilient, it simultaneously identifies individuals who are hyper-resilient who can be asked to volunteer and thus rapidly expand the surge capacity
