As part of a research project within the Department of Psychology at the University of Puerto Rico in Río Piedras, an interdisciplinary work from Psychology, Education and Law was established. The project,“The Psychologist as an expert witness in Special Needs cases” was organized with the interest of promoting social justice by facilitating access to children with special needs. The project required that the authors work in psychological assessment processes incorporating legal strategies, interactions with parents, teachers, lawyers, and other professionals. The project demonstrated the lack of resources available in Puerto Rico to work, from an interdisciplinary perspective, with the targeted population despite the efforts of diverse sectors in the island. This article is aimed at presenting guidelines for psychologists in training, establishing, at the same time, the demand to create public policy to transform services for children with special needs.
