Capacidad de captaci贸n y resistencia a metales pesados de cepas seleccionadas de bacterias l谩cticas
siendo el MeHg m谩s t贸xico que el Hg, y el As(V) m谩s t贸xico que el As(III). Adem谩s,
Heavy metals can be found in several forms in the environment, and some of
them become harmful once certain concentrations have been met and subsequently
become toxic for all forms of life. These heavy metals are present at high concentration
in water and food in certain regions of the world, representing higher risks for specific
populations groups, even though they are present all over the world and the whole
population is exposed to them. These heavy metals can cause a myriad of different side
effects to human, ranging from chronic diseases to cancer. This work reports research
on commensal bacterial strains isolated from the feces and from the milk of women highly
exposed to mercury but they did not display symptoms of poisoning. Tests have been
conducted on the resistance to methylmercury, inorganic mercury, arsenite and arsenate
to determine their growth capacity in the presence of these toxics. In addition, the
biosorption capacity of the bacterial strains of these metals has been assessed. It has
been proven that these metals have toxic effects on the bacteria, with MeHg being more
toxic than Hg, and As(V) being more toxic than As(III). Furthermore, these strains present
a great binding capacity to Hg(II). Due to this capacity, it is considered that these strains
have potential for further studies involving their probiotic capacity to diminish heavy
metals bioaccesibility/bioavalibility that can improve the health of populations exposed
to these toxic metals.Biotecnolog铆
