Timed rewriting logic with an application to object-oriented specification

    No full text
In this paper timed rewriting logic is presented and its application to the specification of real-time object-oriented systems is shown by an example. Timed rewriting logic (TRL) is an extension of Meseguer's rewriting logic. The functional and the static properties of a system are described by algebraic specifications, whereas the behaviour of a process is described by nondeterministic term rewriting where each rewriting step is labeled by a time stamp or a time interval. Thus our approach is similar to timed transition systems and can be seen as a generalization of timed automata combined with algebraic specifications. The approach is illustrated by several examples, such as clocks, time out and timer. As the main application we present Timed Maude, an object-oriented specification language for real-time concurrent systems. Timed Maude is a timed variant of Meseguer's language Maude which is based on rewriting logic. The algebraic specification part and the module part of Maude are kept unchanged in Timed Maude, only concurrent rewriting is replaced by TRL. Multimedia systems 2: authoring and web tools

    No full text
Following a brief description of the central terms hypertext, hypermedia, and multimedia, this report presents authoring and web tools from different categories. It introduces authoring tools that have pre-programmed elements for the development of interactive multimedia; it shows publishing tools for producing well-structured information for the Web, having high level of visual impact, and being easy to navigate; finally it depicts a Web reuse tool that allows to enhance the quality and productivity of software development, specially of software assets produced for the Internet. The tools are described with common schemas respecting the tool's category. Evaluation of the UNIX based object-oriented CASE tools Software through Pictures and ObjectTeam

    No full text
This paper presents an evaluation of the UNIX based CASE tools Software through Pictures and ObjectTeam that support the development of object-oriented applications. The evaluations are based on a list of criteria which cover all aspects of object-oriented CASE tools. The main interests of the evaluations include the support for the concepts and notations of the methods, the support for real-time concepts, the handling and guidance of the editors, and the tools customization and integration facilities. Exhaustive descriptions of the evaluated tools are presented as well as valuations and ratings of each evaluated tool with respect to the evaluation criteria. A note on certain colour histogram distance measures

    No full text
In the QBIC project in particular efficient methods for retrieving images based on their colour content were developed. The method involved the construction of lower bounds on colour histogram distance measures for efficiency reasons. To this end a semi-positivity condition had to be imposed. In this note we prove a conjecture concerning this condition. Moreover we exhibit a more general construction for a suitable class of distance measures and establish a connection to certain abstract results on positive definite kernels. This paper presents an evaluation of the CASE tools Paradigm Plus and System Architect which provide support for multiple well-known software development methods for the development of object-oriented applications. The evaluations are based on a list of criteria which cover all aspects of object-oriented CASE tools. The main interests of the evaluations include the support for the concepts and notations of the methods, the support for real-time concepts, and the customization and integration facilities.
