Monolayered versus multilayered electroless NiP coatings: Impact of the plating approach on the microstructure, mechanical and corrosion properties of the coatings
Electroless nickel-phosphorous (NiP) coatings were produced on low carbon steel substrates for a total plating time of 3\u202fh. Different preparation modalities were pursued. Multilayered coatings were produced by stacking three layers of the same composition by successive electroless plating with rinsing steps in between. On the other hand, coatings termed \u2018monolayered\u2019 for the sake of comparison were deposited by one step electroless process, with and without undergoing bath replenishment of the electrolyte during plating. All the samples were subjected to thermal annealing at 400\u202f\ub0C for 1\u202fh under argon atmosphere.
The results show that the multilayer approach prevents crack propagation in the as-deposited coatings because the interfaces between layers block the advance of defects. Bath replenishment during monolayered coatings production creates pseudo-interfaces similar to those of the multilayered case but they are ineffective in terms of corrosion protection. Un-replenishment of the electrolyte promotes a change in the coating's microstructure from lamellar to columnar which severely worsens their performance. Upon annealing, the presence of interfaces, along with the recrystallization of the metallic matrix, promotes an upgrading of the corrosion performance of the multi-layered coatings. The corrosion products spread laterally at the interface where they stockpile. At a certain point, the accumulation of these by-products provokes the exfoliation of the outermost layer exposing the layer underneath to the corrosive media, thereby delaying the advancement of the corrosion attack. The results of this study highlight the importance of the plating approach selection, as well as the need for proper electrolyte maintenance during the production of high-performance electroless coatings
A cross validation of Consumer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE) with Private Labels in Spain

Springer Proceedings in Business and Economics, pp. 113-125In recent years a number of Consumer-Based Brand Equity (CBBE) models and measurement scales have been introduced in the branding literature. However, examinations of brand equity in Private Labels (PL) are rather limited. This study aims to compare the validity of the two prominent CBBE models those introduced by Yoo and Donthu (2001) and Nam et al. (2011). In order to test the models and make this comparison, the study collected data from 236 respondents who rated private labels in Spain. A list of 30 different fashion and sportswear PL was introduced to respondents. These brands do not make any reference to the retail store in which they are sold. Research findings suggest that the extended CBBE model introduced by Nam et al. (2011) and Ciftci et al. (2014) is more reliable and valid than Yoo and Donthu’s model for assessing PL. Cross-cultural psychometric assessment of an appetite questionnaire for patients with cancer
Objective: To evaluate the psychometric properties, along with
cross-cultural invariance analysis, of the Cancer Appetite and
Symptom Questionnaire (CASQ).
Method: Data from 555 United Kingdom (UK) cancer patients
were used to evaluate the psychometric properties of the CASQ.
Construct validity was assessed through factorial and convergent
validity. We conducted a confirmatory factor analysis using as
indices the chi-square ratio by degrees of freedom (χ2/df), the
comparative fit index (CFI), the goodness of fit index (GFI),
and the root mean square error of approximation (RMSEA).
Convergent validity was estimated by the items’ average
variance extracted (AVE). Reliability was estimated by composite
reliability and internal consistency. Factorial invariance analysis
of the CASQ was evaluated by multigroup analysis (∆χ2) using
the UK and Brazilian samples.
Results: All items showed adequate psychometric sensitivity in
the UK sample. One item was removed and four correlations
were included between errors with an appropriate fit of the model
(χ2/df = 2.674, CFI = 0.966, GFI = 0.964, RMSEA = 0.055).
The reliability of the CASQ was adequate and the convergent
validity was low. The factorial structure of the CASQ differed
across countries, and a lack of measurement invariance for the
two countries was observed (λ: ∆χ2 = 64.008, p < 0.001; i: ∆χ2 =
3515.047, p < 0.001; Res: ∆χ2 = 4452.504, p < 0.001).
Conclusion: The CASQ showed adequate psychometric
properties in the UK sample. The ability to estimate loss of
appetite and the presence of symptoms was different between
UK and Brazilian patients
Influence of the shot-peening intensity on the structure and near-surface mechanical properties of Ti40Zr10Cu38Pd12 bulk metallic glass

Any other use requires prior permission of the author and the American Institute of Physics.Shot-peening (SP) changes the near-surface structure and mechanical properties of a Ti40Zr10 Cu 38Pd12 bulk metallic glass. Near the surface, the hardness, Young's modulus, and elastic strain limit are all reduced. Measurements of the heat of relaxation show that an exceptionally high stored energy of cold work can be induced, implying a large increase in free volume. At the highest SP intensity there is partial nanocrystallization enabled by the increased free volume and not by the increase in temperature
Single step electrosynthesis of NiMnGa alloys
An electrochemical synthesis route for NiMnGa alloys is presented. Thin films of NiMnGa were fabricated by single step electrodeposition from aqueous electrolytes using direct current over a range of current densities. By electrolyte tuning, homogeneous films with high Ga and Mn content could be achieved at current densities as high as -400 mA cm-2. Detailed compositional analysis of the alloys showed that growth was homogeneous and oxygen content was minimized. Films plated at very low current densities were found to be nanocrystalline/amorphous. In order to obtain fully crystalline samples, thermal annealing was carried out. Mechanical characterization was assessed by nanoindentation, and the effect of Ga content on mechanical properties was investigated
A New Portfolio Formation Approach to Mispricing of Marketing Performance Indicators: an Application to Customer Satisfaction
There has been a recent debate in the marketing literature concerning the possible mispricing of customer satisfaction. While earlier studies claim that portfolios with attractive out-of-sample properties can be formed by loading on stocks whose firms enjoy high customer satisfaction, later studies challenge this finding. A large part of the disagreement stems from the difficulty of how to actually evaluate mispricing based on the observed portfolio returns. In particular, any portfolio formation method that requires the use of a risk model is open to the criticism of time-varying risk factor loadings due to the changing composition of the portfolio over time. As an alternative, we construct portfolios that are neutral with respect to the desired risk factors a priori. Consequently, no risk model is needed when analyzing the observed returns of our portfolios. Using various ways of measuring customer satisfaction, we do not find any convincing evidence that portfolios that load on high customer satisfaction lead to abnormal returns

Building employee relationships through corporate social responsibility: the moderating role of social cynicism and reward for application
We explore the role of deeply held beliefs, known as social axioms, in the context of employee–organization relationships. Specifically, we examine how the beliefs identified as social cynicism and reward for application moderate the relationship between employees’ work-related experiences, perceptions of CSR, attitudes, and behavioral intentions toward their firm. Utilizing a sample of 130 retail employees, we find that CSR affects more positively employees low on social cynicism and reduces distrust more so than with cynical employees. Employees exhibiting strong reward for application are less positively affected by CSR, whereas their experiences of other work-related factors are more likely to reduce distrust. Our findings suggest the need for a differentiated view of CSR in the context of employee studies and offer suggestions for future research and management practice
How and When Socially Entrepreneurial Nonprofit Organizations Benefit From Adopting Social Alliance Management Routines to Manage Social Alliances?
Social alliance is defined as the collaboration between for-profit and nonprofit organizations. Building on the insights derived from the resource-based theory, we develop a conceptual framework to explain how socially entrepreneurial nonprofit organizations (SENPOs) can improve their social alliance performance by adopting strategic alliance management routines. We test our framework using the data collected from 203 UK-based SENPOs in the context of cause-related marketing campaign-derived social alliances. Our results confirm a positive relationship between social alliance management routines and social alliance performance. We also find that relational mechanisms, such as mutual trust, relational embeddedness, and relational commitment, mediate the relationship between social alliance management routines and social alliance performance. Moreover, our findings suggest that different types of social alliance motivation can influence the impact of social alliance management routines on different types of the relational mechanisms. In general, we demonstrate that SENPOs can benefit from adopting social alliance management routines and, in addition, highlight how and when the social alliance management routines–social alliance performance relationship might be shaped. Our study offers important academic and managerial implications, and points out future research directions
