Introduction: ESR (Erythrocyte Sedimentation Rate) is the sedimentation rate of red blood cells per unit of time that is expressed in millimeters. ESR test is simple and inexpensive and fast and can be somewhat diagnostic manual to confirm the diagnosis, rule out the diagnosis, follow-up course of the disease and so on, so it is of interest to practitioners. Methods: Descriptive and cross-sectional study on 124 patients in all wards of Shahid Sadooghi  hospital in the second 6 months of 1393, that had raised ESR of 100 at least one time. All information including gender, age, diagnosis of the presence or absence of fever and indigenous of them cases in the archive hospital patients were taken. Results: 56% female and 44% were male. 16% of patients in the age range 0-19 years, 56% aged 20-64 years and 28% were aged over 64 years. 41% of patients were admitted with fever. 59% were native and 41 % were non-native. Infectious causes (45.9%), malignancy (14.5%), collagen vascular disease (16.9%), internal disease and hematology (16.9%) and other causes (5.6%) were formed cases. Diabetic foot (7%), pneumonia (7%), RA (6%), ESRD (5.6%), metastatic lung cancer (4%), TB (3%) formed the majority of cases. In feverish cases pneumonia (11.5%), diabetic foot (7.6%), tuberculosis (5.7%), pyelonephritis (5.7%) and RA (5.7%) were the most frequent form. Infectious causes of fever (65.3%), collagen vascular (13.4%), malignancies (5.7%) and other causes (15.6%).conclusion: In patients with extremely high sediment in terms of gender segregation is almost the same of hospital commiunity

Introduction: Cancer is a crippling and incurable disease, which affects on physical health as well as mental and social well- being and disrupts patient’s life. The present study was done to measure the rate of quality of life and coping strategies in people with cancer and non-cancer in Yazd city. Methods: This was an analytical and cross sectional study in which performed on 53 women with cancer who referred to private oncology clinic and 94 non-cancer ones in Yazd. The sampling method was purposeful. Data were collected by demographic questionnaire, coping inventory for stressful situation questionnaire (CISS) and a socio-economic well-being scale in people with cancer. SPSS-16 was used to analyze data. Results: Problem-focused coping style was the most common coping strategy among the participants (Mean± SD 50.34± 7.89) and the rate of quality of life among the participants were 47.47± 7.72. The results of Pearson correlation showed a positive significant relationship between problem-focused and avoidant coping styles with quality of life and its subscales (p0.05). Conclusion: Generally, the results showed that appropriate use of stress-coping strategies is effective in people’s quality of life. Hence, the use of psychological interventions and stress management training with problems are recommended to enhance psychological state and quality of life among patients with cancer

Introduction This research was done with the objective of "Determine the effectiveness of learning coping strategies with Irrational Beliefs based on the theory of rational-emotional Alice on students’ attitude toward premarital relations in Yazd city". Materials and Methods In this semi experimental research 60 female students of Yazd-Iran, selected by using of Cochran’s formula and divided in two groups of control (30 persons) and experiment (30 persons) randomly. Learning of coping strategies with Irrational beliefs based on the theory of rational-emotional Alice during the 8 sessions of 90 minutes was conducted on experiment group, and the control group did not training; then post-test was conducted in two groups. Also, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) used in order to data analysis in descriptive statistics and inferential statistics. Results The adjusted mean attitude scores of the relationship with the opposite sex in control group, on the pre-test and post-test was 51.27+12.16, 50.30+14.46 and in experimental group was 69.53+8.91, 43.63+10.96 respectively. The result Alice rational-emotional treatment method is effective on attitude to relationship before marriage of high school girls (

Glutathione S-transferase M1-T1 null genotypes and susceptibility to Hodgkin’s lymphoma

Hodgkin’s Lymphoma (HL) is a heterogeneous malignant disease of lymph node. The glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) have an important role in the detoxification of a wide variety of toxins and carcinogens. Studies have been indicated that genetic variation in the GST gene family may lead to susceptibility in HL. Hereby, we investigated the association of GSTT1 and GSTM1 null genotypes with HL in the Iranian population. This case-control study consisted of 76 patients suffering from HL and 120 healthy individuals as a control group. Genomic DNA was extracted and genotyping of GSTT1 and GSTM1 genes for the identification of their null genotypes was carried out using multiplex PCR method. Our findings indicated that GSTM1 null genotype is associated with risk of developing HL in our population (P=0.025; OR=2.00; 95%CI=1.110- 3.602); however, no association was found for GSTT1 null genotype. Our study also showed that the GSTM1 null genotype increased the risk of disease in the individuals younger than 45 years, and it had a positive association with low ESR. GSTM1 null genotype may have the key role in increasing the risk of HL in the Iranian population

ASSOCIATION OF INTERLEUKIN-10 -1082 A/G (RS1800896) POLYMORPHISM WITH SUSCEPTIBILITY TO GASTRIC CANCER: META-ANALYSIS OF 6,101 CASES AND 8,557 CONTROLS

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The promoter -1082 A/G (rs1800896) polymorphism of Interleukin-10 (IL-10) gene have been widely reported and considered to have a significant role on gastric cancer risk, but the results are inconsistent. OBJECTIVE: To clarify the association, we conducted a meta-analysis to investigate the associations IL-10 -1082 A/G polymorphism with gastric cancer. METHODS: Eligible articles were identified by searching databases including PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar up to August 03, 2017. Odds ratios (OR) with corresponding 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were used to assess the association. RESULTS: A total of 30 case-control studies with 6,101 cases and 8,557 controls were included in this meta-analysis. Overall, a significant association between IL-10 -1082 A/G polymorphism and gastric cancer risk was observed under the allele model (G vs A: OR=1.305, 95% CI=1.076-1.584; P=0.007), heterozygote model and (GA vs AA: OR=1.252, 95% CI=1.252-1.054; P=0.011) and dominant model (GG+GA vs AA: OR=1.264, 95% CI=1.053-1.516; P=0.012). In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, increased gastric cancer risk were found in Asians under the allele model (G vs A: OR=1.520, 95% CI=1.172-1.973; P=0.002), homozygote model (GG+GA vs AA: OR=1.571, 95% CI=1.023-2.414; P= 0.039), heterozygote model (GA vs AA: OR=1.465, 95% CI=1.192-1.801; P≤0.001) and dominant model (GG+GA vs AA: OR=1.448, 95% CI=1.152-1.821; P=0.002), but not among Caucasian and Latinos populations. CONCLUSION: These results suggested that the IL-10 -1082 A/G (rs1800896) polymorphism might contribute to the gastric cancer susceptibility, especially among Asians
