    Going beyond body exposure therapy. Presenting an innovative Virtual Reality and Eye-Tracking body-related attentional bias task

    The present study provides preliminary findings of an innovative body-related attentional bias modification task (ABMT) using Virtual Reality (VR) and Eye-tracking (ET) technologies. Analyses were carried out on a sample composed of college women (n = 35) who were divided into groups of those with high body dissatisfaction (n = 16) and those with low body dissatisfaction (n = 19). All participants were exposed to an immersive virtual environment in which they were embodied in a virtual body that resembled the measurements of their real body. Subjects performed the body-related attentional bias modification task for 20 minutes. Eating Disorder (ED) symptomatology disturbances and body-related attentional bias (AB) were measured before and after a single session of the VR ABMT. Results showed a significant (p<.05) reduction of fear of gaining weight after the intervention among women with high body dissatisfaction. Our results indicated promising evidence in favor of using this ABMT, particularly among women with high body dissatisfaction. In addition, the current research provides a new application of VR and ET technologies that might open a wide range of possibilities for designing and developing new body-related interventions among patients with EDs and women with body image disturbances

    IL-6 serum levels predict severity and response to tocilizumab in COVID-19: An observational study

    Background: Patients with coronavirus disaese 2019 (COVID-19) can develop a cytokine release syndrome that eventually leads to acute respiratory distress syndrome requiring invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV). Because IL-6 is a relevant cytokine in acute respiratory distress syndrome, the blockade of its receptor with tocilizumab (TCZ) could reduce mortality and/or morbidity in severe COVID-19. Objective: We sought to determine whether baseline IL-6 serum levels can predict the need for IMV and the response to TCZ. Methods: A retrospective observational study was performed in hospitalized patients diagnosed with COVID-19. Clinical information and laboratory findings, including IL-6 levels, were collected approximately 3 and 9 days after admission to be matched with preadministration and postadministration of TCZ. Multivariable logistic and linear regressions and survival analysis were performed depending on outcomes: need for IMV, evolution of arterial oxygen tension/fraction of inspired oxygen ratio, or mortality. Results: One hundred forty-six patients were studied, predominantly males (66%); median age was 63 years. Forty-four patients (30%) required IMV, and 58 patients (40%) received treatment with TCZ. IL-6 levels greater than 30 pg/mL was the best predictor for IMV (odds ratio, 7.1; P < .001). Early administration of TCZ was associated with improvement in oxygenation (arterial oxygen tension/fraction of inspired oxygen ratio) in patients with high IL-6 (P = .048). Patients with high IL-6 not treated with TCZ showed high mortality (hazard ratio, 4.6; P = .003), as well as those with low IL-6 treated with TCZ (hazard ratio, 3.6; P = .016). No relevant serious adverse events were observed in TCZ-treated patients.     Active Faults in Iberia

They are located in several regions: (1) The Iberian Massif, including Portugal, and Galicia and Cantabrian Mountains in the North, (2) The Pyrenees, (3) The NE of Iberia, (4) The Iberian Cordillera, and (5) The Betic Cordillera. The Pyrenees, the Iberian Cordillera, and particularly the Betic Cordillera are the most active regions. These faults have being considered active in a broad sense, that is to say, corresponding to faults that, at least, present movements during the Quaternary, not restricting them only to those presenting displacements during the late 10,000 years.     Dietary patterns and their relationship with the perceptions of healthy eating in European adolescents : the HELENA study

    Objective: The aim of this study was to identify dietary patterns (DPs) in European adolescents and to examine the association between perceptions of healthy eating and the obtained DPs. Method: A multinational cross-sectional study was carried out in adolescents aged 12.5 to 17.5?years and 2,027 (44.9% males) were considered for analysis. A self-reported questionnaire with information on food choices and preferences, including perceptions of healthy eating, and two 24-hour dietary recalls were used. Principal component analysis was used to obtain sex-specific DPs, and linear analyses of covariance were used to compare DPs according to perceptions of healthy eating. Results: Three and four DPs for boys and girls were obtained. In boys and girls, there were significant associations between some perceptions about healthy food and the Breakfast-DP (p?<?0.05). In boys, Breakfast-DP and Healthy Beverage-DP were associated with the perception of the own diet as healthy (p?<?0.05). Healthy Beverage-DP was associated with those disliking fruits and vegetables (p?<?0.05). Girls considering the own diet as healthy were associated with Mediterranean-DP, Breakfast-DP, and Unhealthy Beverage and Meat-DP (p?<?0.05). The perception of snacking as a necessary part of a healthy diet was associated with Breakfast-DP in both genders (p?<?0.05). Conclusions: In European adolescents, perceptions of healthy eating were mainly associated with a DP characterized by foods consumed at breakfast. Future studies should further explore these findings in order to implement health promotion programs to improve healthy eating habits in adolescents
