Extension of the HF program to partially filled f-subshells
A new version of a Hartree-Fock program is presented that includes extensions
for partially filled f-subshells. The program allows the calculation of term
dependent Hartree-Fock orbitals and energies in LS coupling for configurations
with no more than two open subshells, including f-subshells
Aspects of quark mass generation on a torus
In this talk we report on recent results for the quark propagator on a
compact manifold. The corresponding Dyson-Schwinger equations on a torus are
solved on volumes similar to the ones used in lattice calculations. The
quark-gluon interaction is fixed such that the lattice results are reproduced.
We discuss both the effects in the infinite volume/continuum limit as well as
effects when the volume is small.Comment: 3 pages, 3 figures; talk given by CF at QNP06, Madrid, June 200
Philosophy of time: A slightly opinionated introduction
There are several intertwined debates in the area of contemporary philos- ophy of time. One field of inquiry is the nature of time itself. Presentists think that only the present moment exists whereas eternalists believe that all of (space-)time exists on a par. The second main field of inquiry is the question of how objects persist through time. The endurantist claims that objects are three-dimensional wholes, which persist by being wholly1 present, whereas the perdurantist thinks that objects are four- dimensional and that their temporal parts are the bearers of properties. The third debate in the field of contemporary philosophy of time is about tense- versus tenseless theory. Tensers are at odds with detensers about the status of the linguistic reference to the present moment. These are only very crude characterizations and it is even disputed by some ad- vocates of the corresponding positions that they are accurate. However this very sketchy picture already reveals a fundamental difference: The eternalism/presentism and endurance/perdurance discussions belong to the field of metaphysics, whereas tense is in the first instance a linguistic phenomenon
Role of medium modifications for neutrino-pair processes from nucleon-nucleon bremsstrahlung - Impact on the protoneutron star deleptonization
In this article the neutrino-pair production from nucleon-nucleon (NN)
bremsstrahlung is explored via medium-modifications of the strong interactions
at the level of the one-pion exchange approximation. It governs the bulk part
of the NN interaction at low densities relevant for the neutrino physics in
core-collapse supernova studies. The resulting medium modified one-pion
exchange rate for the neutrino-pair processes is implemented in simulations of
core collapse supernovae in order to study the impact on the neutrino signal
emitted from the deleptonization of the nascent proto-neutron star.
Consequences for the nucleosynthesis of heavy elements of the material ejected
from the PNS surface are discussed.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in Astronomy &
