    Free Malcev algebra of rank three

    We find a basis of the free Malcev algebra on three free generators over a field of characteristic zero. The specialty and semiprimity of this algebra are proved. In addition, we prove the decomposability of this algebra into subdirect sum of the free Lie algebra rank three and the free algebra of rank three of variety of Malcev algebras generated by a simple seven-dimensional Malcev algebra

    Wire GEM detector

    A wire GEM (WGEM) detector with a gas gap between meshes was constructed. The detector provides the amplification 5x10E5 for the gas mixture of Ar +20% CO2 at atmospheric pressure. As compared with well-known GEM detectors produced by perforation the plastic plate metalized on both sides the WGEM does not suffer from breakdowns between its electrodes and the effect of accumulation of charges on holes walls is absent.     Probability-based comparison of quantum states

    We address the following state comparison problem: is it possible to design an experiment enabling us to unambiguously decide (based on the observed outcome statistics) on the sameness or difference of two unknown state preparations without revealing complete information about the states? We find that the claim "the same" can never be concluded without any doubts unless the information is complete. Moreover, we prove that a universal comparison (that perfectly distinguishes all states) also requires complete information about the states. Nevertheless, for some measurements, the probability distribution of outcomes still allows one to make an unambiguous conclusion regarding the difference between the states even in the case of incomplete information. We analyze an efficiency of such a comparison of qudit states when it is based on the SWAP-measurement. For qubit states, we consider in detail the performance of special families of two-valued measurements enabling us to successfully compare at most half of the pairs of states. Finally, we introduce almost universal comparison measurements which can distinguish almost all non-identical states (up to a set of measure zero).     RETGEM with polyvinylchloride (PVC) electrodes

    This paper presents a new design of the RETGEM (Resistive Electrode Thick GEM) based on electrodes made of a polyvinylchloride material (PVC). Our device can operate with gains of 10E5 as a conventional TGEM at low counting rates and as RPC in the case of high counting rates without of the transit to the violent sparks. The distinct feature of present RETGEM is the absent of the metal coating and lithographic technology for manufacturing of the protective dielectric rms. The electrodes from PVC permit to do the holes by a simple drilling machine. Detectors on a RETGEM basis could be useful in many fields of an application requiring a more cheap manufacturing and safe operation, for example, in a large neutrino experiments, in TPC, RICH systems.Comment: Presented at the RD51 Collaboration Meeting, CERN, November 200

    Peculiar properties of the cluster-cluster interaction induced by the Pauli exclusion principle

    Role of the Pauli principle in the formation of both the discrete spectrum and multi-channel states of the binary nuclear systems composed of clusters is studied in the Algebraic Version of the resonating-group method. Solutions of the Hill-Wheeler equations in the discrete representation of a complete basis of the Pauli-allowed states are discussed for 4He+n, 3H+3H, and 4He+4He binary systems. An exact treatment of the antisymmetrization effects are shown to result in either an effective repulsion of the clusters, or their effective attraction. It also yields a change in the intensity of the centrifugal potential. Both factors significantly affect the scattering phase behavior. Special attention is paid to the multi-channel cluster structure 6He+6He as well as to the difficulties arising in the case when the two clustering configurations, 6He+6He and 4He+8He, are taken into account simultaneously. In the latter case the Pauli principle, even in the absence of a potential energy of the cluster-cluster interaction, leads to the inelastic processes and secures an existence of both the bound state and resonance in the 12Be compound nucleus.Comment: 17 pages, 14 figures, 1 table; submitted to Phys.Rev.C Keywords: light neutron-rich nuclei, cluster model

    On the stability and growth of single myelin figures

    Myelin figures are long thin cylindrical structures that typically grow as a dense tangle when water is added to the concentrated lamellar phase of certain surfactants. We show that, starting from a well-ordered initial state, single myelin figures can be produced in isolation thus allowing a detailed study of their growth and stability. These structures grow with their base at the exposed edges of bilayer stacks from which material is transported into the myelin. Myelins only form and grow in the presence of a driving stress; when the stress is removed, the myelins retract.Comment: 4 pages, 8 figures. Revised version, 1 new figure, additional reference

    Probability representation and quantumness tests for qudits and two-mode light states

    Using tomographic-probability representation of spin states, quantum behavior of qudits is examined. For a general j-qudit state we propose an explicit formula of quantumness witnetness whose negative average value is incompatible with classical statistical model. Probability representations of quantum and classical (2j+1)-level systems are compared within the framework of quantumness tests.
