    Estudio microscópico de la aleación líquida Li-Pb y su interacción con He en reactores de fusión nuclear

    El objetivo principal de este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es estudiar las propiedades estáticas y dinámicas de la aleación líquida Li-Pb y su interacción con los átomos de helio a 950 K. El estudio está enfocado en realizar un avance para el futuro uso de la aleación Li-Pb como breeding blanket en los reactores nucleares. Las predicciones realizadas se han basado en el uso de una superficie de energía potencial obtenida con una red neuronal entrenada a partir de datos calculados (teoría del funcional de la densidad) . Se han obtenido las funciones de distribución radial y el factor de estructura para diversas concentraciones de He. Estas últimas han resultado ser idénticas a las datos experimentales. Se han calculado los coeficientes de difusión de los tres elementos de la aleación y se ha analizado la agrupación en burbujas de los átomos de helio.The main objective of this Final Degree Thesis is to study the static and dynamic properties of the liquid Li-Pb alloy and its interaction with helium atoms at 950 K. The study is focused on making a breakthrough for the future use of Li-Pb alloy as breeding blanket in nuclear reactors. The predictions have been based on the use of a potential energy surface obtained with a neural network trained on data calculated with DFT (density functional theory). Radial distribution functions and structure factor have been obtained for various He concentrations. The latter were found to be identical to the experimental data.     Acoustic characterization and perceptual analysis of the relative importance of prosody in speech of people with Down syndrome

    There are many studies that identify important deficits in the voice production of people with Down syndrome. These deficits affect not only the spectral domain, but also the intonation, accent, rhythm and speech rate. The main aim of this work is the identication of the acoustic features that characterize the speech of people with Down syndrome, taking into account the different frequency, energy, temporal and spectral domains. The comparison of the relative weight of these features for the characterization of Down syndrome people's speech is another aim of this study. The openSmile toolkit with the GeMAPS feature set was used to extract acoustic features from a speech corpus of utterances from typically developing individuals and individuals with Down syndrome. Then, the most discriminant features were identied using statistical tests. Moreover, three binary classiers were trained using these features. The best classication rate, using only spectral features, is 87.33%, and using frequency, energy and temporal features, it is 91.83%. Finally, a perception test has been performed using recordings created with a prosody transfer algorithm: the prosody of utterances from one group of speakers was transferred to utterances of another group. The results of this test show the importance of intonation and rhythm in the identication of a voice as non typical. As conclusion, the results obtained point to the training of prosody in order to improve the quality of the speech production of those with Down syndrome

    Prosodic feature analysis for automatic speech assessment and individual report generation in people with Down syndrome

    Producción CientíficaEvaluating prosodic quality poses unique challenges due to the intricate nature of prosody, which encompasses multiple form–function profiles. These challenges are more pronounced when analyzing the voices of individuals with Down syndrome (DS) due to increased variability. This paper introduces a procedure for selecting informative prosodic features based on both the disparity between human-rated DS productions and their divergence from the productions of typical users, utilizing a corpus constructed through a video game. Individual reports of five speakers with DS are created by comparing the selected features of each user with recordings of individuals without intellectual disabilities. The acquired features primarily relate to the temporal domain, reducing dependence on pitch detection algorithms, which encounter difficulties when dealing with pathological voices compared to typical ones.     Using challenges to enhance a learning game for pronunciation training of English as a second language

They provide an emergent form of social participation that deserves the assessment of their usefulness and efficiency in learning processes. This study describes a novel learning game for foreign pronunciation training in which players can challenge each other. Native Spanish speakers performed several pronunciation activities during a one-month competition using a mobile application, designed under a minimal pairs approach, to improve their pronunciation of English as a foreign language. This game took place in a competitive scenario in which students had to challenge other participants in order to get high scores and climb up a leaderboard. Results show intense practice supported by a significant number of activities and playing regularity, so the most active and motivated players in the competition achieved significant pronunciation improvement results.     Analysis of atypical prosodic patterns in the speech of people with Down syndrome

    Producción CientíficaThe speech of people with Down syndrome (DS) shows prosodic features which are distinct from those observed in the oral productions of typically developing (TD) speakers. Although a different prosodic realization does not necessarily imply wrong expression of prosodic functions, atypical expression may hinder communication skills. The focus of this work is to ascertain whether this can be the case in individuals with DS. To do so, we analyze the acoustic features that better characterize the utterances of speakers with DS when expressing prosodic functions related to emotion, turn-end and phrasal chunking, comparing them with those used by TD speakers. An oral corpus of speech utterances has been recorded using the PEPS-C prosodic competence evaluation tool. We use automatic classifiers to prove that the prosodic features that better predict prosodic functions in TD speakers are less informative in speakers with DS. Although atypical features are observed in speakers with DS when producing prosodic functions, the intended prosodic function can be identified by listeners and, in most cases, the features correctly discriminate the function with analytical methods. However, a greater difference between the minimal pairs presented in the PEPS-C test is found for TD speakers in comparison with DS speakers.     This paper introduces the architecture and interface of a serious game intended for pronunciation training and assessment for Spanish students of English as second language. Users will confront a challenge consisting in the pronunciation of a minimal-pair word battery. Android ASR and TTS tools will prove useful in discerning three different pronunciation proficiency levels, ranging from basic to native. Results also provide evidence of the weaknesses and limitations of present-day technologies.     An automatic labeling system using Sp ToBI annotation conventions has been applied both to a non-native corpus of Japanese speakers using Spanish and to a reference corpus of Spanish speakers. A set of metrics based on conditional entropy is computed by using the output of an automatic labeler which happens to be highly correlated with the rates assigned by a team of subject evaluators. An analysis of the relative frequencies in the use of each of the Sp ToBI symbols permits to identify the recurrent mistakes in the productions of non-native speakers. It is discussed with the results that the majority of the observed prosodic deficits can be explained by the prosodic transference between the Japanese and Spanish systems as it had been previouly reported in the state of art.MEC-FEDER Grant TIN2014-59852-R y la Junta de Castilla y León Regional Grant VA145U1

    Evolution of the UV Excess in Early-Type Galaxies

    We examine the UV emission from luminous early-type galaxies as a function of redshift. We perform a stacking analysis using Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) images of galaxies in the NOAO Deep Wide Field Survey (NDWFS) Bo\"otes field and examine the evolution in the UV colors of the average galaxy. Our sample, selected to have minimal ongoing star formation based on the optical to mid-IR SEDs of the galaxies, includes 1843 galaxies spanning the redshift range 0.05z0.650.05\leq z\leq0.65. We find evidence that the strength of the UV excess decreases, on average, with redshift, and our measurements also show moderate disagreement with previous models of the UV excess. Our results show little evolution in the shape of the UV continuum with redshift, consistent either with the binary model for the formation of Extreme Horizontal Branch (EHB) stars or with no evolution in EHB morphology with look-back time. However, the binary formation model predicts that the strength of the UV excess should also be relatively constant, in contradiction with our measured results. Finally, we see no significant influence of a galaxy's environment on the strength of its UV excess.Comment: 30 pages, 10 figures; accepted by ApJ.     Case Report: Multiple Cavernous Pericardial Lymphangioma (Pericardial Lymphangiomatosis) in a Captive Peregrine Falcon (Falco peregrinus brookei)

    [EN] A 12-year-old female peregrine falcon (Falco peregrinus brookei) from a private raptor breeding facility that presented a good body condition, died suddenly without showing previous symptoms. At necropsy, in the coelomic cavity, multiple cystic structures demarcated by a thin transparent wall and filled with a serous content were observed. They were firmly adhered to the cranial part of the epicardium and adjacent tissues and occupied the entire thoracic area of the coelomic cavity. Microscopically, emerging simultaneously from several areas the epicardium, multiple irregular channels and cystic spaces, lined by a single endothelial cell layer and separated by fibrovascular septa containing smooth muscle tissue, were observed. Immunohistochemical examination revealed that the neoplastic endothelial cells positively immunolabelled for the pan-endothelial marker factor VIII-related antigen but immunostained negative for cytokeratins (PCK26) while strong positivity for sarcomeric α-smooth muscle actin (α-SMA) was detected in the cystic walls. Based on the morphological and immunohistochemical findings, lesions were determined as consistent with a multiple cavernous pericardial lymphangioma, or pericardial lymphangiomatosis, a rare vascular neoplasm. The animal also showed a diffuse chronic perihepatitis, a necrotic area in the liver and foci of cartilaginous metaplasia and calcification in the aorta and vena cava.
