A dichotomy property for locally compact groups

    Get PDF
We extend to metrizable locally compact groups Rosenthal's theorem describing those Banach spaces containing no copy of l1l_1. For that purpose, we transfer to general locally compact groups the notion of interpolation (I0I_0) set, which was defined by Hartman and Ryll-Nardzewsky [25] for locally compact abelian groups. Thus we prove that for every sequence {gn}n<ω\lbrace g_n \rbrace_{n<\omega} in a locally compact group GG, then either {gn}n<ω\lbrace g_n \rbrace_{n<\omega} has a weak Cauchy subsequence or contains a subsequence that is an I0I_0 set. This result is subsequently applied to obtain sufficient conditions for the existence of Sidon sets in a locally compact group GG, an old question that remains open since 1974 (see [32] and [20]). Finally, we show that every locally compact group strongly respects compactness extending thereby a result by Comfort, Trigos-Arrieta, and Wu [13], who established this property for abelian locally compact groups.Comment: To appear in J. of Functional Analysi

Interpolation sets in spaces of continuous metric-valued functions

Let XX and MM be a topological space and metric space, respectively. If C(X,M)C(X,M) denotes the set of all continuous functions from X to M, we say that a subset YY of XX is an \emph{MM-interpolation set} if given any function gMYg\in M^Y with relatively compact range in MM, there exists a map fC(X,M)f\in C(X,M) such that fY=gf_{|Y}=g. In this paper, motivated by a result of Bourgain in \cite{Bourgain1977}, we introduce a property, stronger than the mere \emph{non equicontinuity} of a family of continuous functions, that isolates a crucial fact for the existence of interpolation sets in fairly general settings. As a consequence, we establish the existence of I0I_0 sets in every nonprecompact subset of a abelian locally kωk_{\omega}-groups. This implies that abelian locally kωk_{\omega}-groups strongly respects compactness

Following the enactment of Law 5/2012, of July 6. Act of mediation in civil and commercial matters, in our national law to some extent developing the legal concept of mediator, but it is not the subject of this study we know that Spain is a pluri state following the promulgation of the standard in certain Autonomous communities have legislation in particular mediation. But in focusing on this work is the application of mediation in the indignity happen. First for the cause being alive and the heirs tested as intestate not to reach an agreement through mediation because there are usually family disputes, there may be a caregiver of the person with disability can be physical, sensory or mental, with the other heirs or heirs. So, I think that is a good tool mediation to both the deceased and the heirs both tested as intestate find a final agreement for the cause first has the “attention due” in life and later are not unworthy to succeed her heirs or heirs, since these also create them a social stigma. As states, the title of the work is the application of mediation in the indignity to happen in the first chapter the concept of unworthiness to succeed in the Spanish Civil Code is studied, as understanding mediation should develop this legal concept before and in the second chapter as the parties attending the indignity happen. In the third chapter the indignity happen when the person is handicapped intellectually as may be the case in mediation, and the fourth chapter the possibility that a person involved in the mediation suffer a mental disorder is also studied, being able to take this situation in mediation, and finally in the fifth performance of the mediator in the indignity happen, extinction of mediation and final settlement, as essential elements for the emergence or not a final agreement between the parties to the conflict have studied and well the performance of the mediator in this conflict.

The agrarian cooperative system in Spain: from corporatism to the present

From the start of agricultural cooperatives in Spain in the nineteenth century, their purpose was to group all Spanish farmers and form an agricultural community; after the arrival of the Second Republic, an attempt was made to give a great democratic boost to cooperatives, as well as to women’s intervention in them, although their legislation was very short-lived. After the Spanish Civil War, the Franco government purged the members of the cooperatives, especially those who aided in these efforts, even social-Catholic cooperatives. The arrival of democracy and the issuance of the Spanish Constitution of December 27, 1978, gave way to the enactment of the Law of Cooperatives of 1999, thus initiating the legal regime of cooperatives in Spain. The Autonomous Communities also issued their own legislations, which promoted effective equality between men and women within the scope of the cooperative system.

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction among university students in Spain. The present study seeks to assess gratitude by means of a self-report Gratitude Questionnaire (GQ-6; McCullough et al., 2002) and Life satisfaction scale (SWLS; Diener et al., 1985). Using a multiple linear regression analysis, the relationship between life satisfaction and gratitude is analyzed. The results suggest that gratitude significantly predicts life satisfaction, while on the other hand, differences exist with regard to gender in the relationship between gratitude and life satisfaction. The significance and limitations of the present findings are discussed.
