Frequency Dependent Viscosity Near the Critical Point: The Scale to Two Loop Order
The recent accurate measurements of Berg, Moldover and Zimmerli of the
viscoelastic effect near the critical point of xenon has shown that the scale
factor involved in the frequency scaling is about twice the scale factor
obtained theoretically. We show that this discrepancy is a consequence of using
first order perturbation theory. Including two loop contribution goes a long

Choreography, controversy and child sex abuse: Theoretical reflections on a cultural criminological analysis of dance in a pop music video
This article was inspired by the controversy over claims of âpedophilia!!!!â undertones and the âtriggeringâ of memories of childhood sexual abuse in some viewers by the dance performance featured in the music video for Siaâs âElastic Heartâ (2015). The case is presented for acknowledging the hidden and/or overlooked presence of dance in social scientific theory and cultural studies and how these can enhance and advance cultural criminological research. Examples of how these insights have been used within other disciplinary frameworks to analyse and address child sex crime and sexual trauma are provided, and the argument is made that popular cultural texts such as dance in pop music videos should be regarded as significant in analysing and tracing public perceptions and epistemologies of crimes such as child sex abuse
Genetic studies of Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus: lack of association with seven genetic markers
Type 2 (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes mellitus, a disease of complex aetiology, has been reported to be nonrandomly associated with several polymorphic markers in human populations. These data, plus evidence of a high prevalence of Type 2 diabetes mellitus in American Indians and mixed populations, such as Mexican-Americans, which is only partially attributable to the prevalence of obesity in these populations, makes it imperative that the nature of such associations be clarified in relation to genetic susceptibility to Type 2 diabetes mellitus. The present paper reports the results of tests of association between Type 2 diabetes mellitus and seven polymorphic markers: the blood groups - ABO, Rhesus, Duffy and Kell (K and KP) - haptoglobin and group specific component; among Anglo and Hispanic populations in the San Luis Valley of Colorado, USA. The sample population consisted of 788 individuals of which 398 were Anglo subjects (97 Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and 301 normal individuals) and 390 Hispanic subjects (191 Type 2 diabetes mellitus patients and 199 normal individuals). Association between Type 2 diabetes mellitus and genetic markers in patients was tested using the G2 statistic within each ethnic class using normal frequencies as a comparison. Results of the tests indicated that only the Kell blood group was significantly associated with Type 2 diabetes mellitus at a 5% level among the Anglo subjects (G2=5.16, 1df). This significant value can be explained by chance alone, if multiple comparisons are taken into account. Our tests have not shown the previously reported haptoglobin or Rhesus blood group associations seen in Mexican-Americans in San Antonio, Texas
Estimation of the frequency of isoformâgenotype discrepancies at the apolipoprotein E locus in heterozygotes for the isoforms
Estimates of the impact of apolipoprotein E (apo E) alleles coding for the three common isoforms on plasma lipid levels assume genetic homogeneity among the genotype classes. To test this assumption, we have determined the apo E genotype at the two common polymorphic sites (amino acids 112 and 158) by DNA amplification and hybridisation with alleleâspecific oligoprobes, in 195 unrelated Caucasian participants of the Rochester Family Heart Study previously classified as heterozygotes by isoelectric focusing (IEF). Fourteen discordant samples were initially detected. Repeat typing of these samples by both methods resolved nine discrepancies and analysis of additional blood samples from the remaining five individuals eliminated a further four discrepancies. The only truly discordant allele was found in a female subject who had an E3 isoform with the common E2 (Cys 112 , Cys 158 ) genotype. Transmission of this allele from the mother was demonstrated. From these results, we estimate the frequency of discrepancies between isoforms and common genotypes to be 0.25% in this population. Allele misclassification was caused by poor amplification of the DNA in six samples and superimposition of glycosylated and nonglycosylated apo E isoforms on isoelectric focusing gels in five samples. Scaling of thermal conductivity of helium confined in pores
We have studied the thermal conductivity of confined superfluids on a
bar-like geometry. We use the planar magnet lattice model on a lattice with . We have applied open boundary conditions on the bar
sides (the confined directions of length ) and periodic along the long
direction. We have adopted a hybrid Monte Carlo algorithm to efficiently deal
with the critical slowing down and in order to solve the dynamical equations of
motion we use a discretization technique which introduces errors only
in the time step . Our results demonstrate the
validity of scaling using known values of the critical exponents and we
obtained the scaling function of the thermal resistivity. We find that our
results for the thermal resistivity scaling function are in very good agreement

Approaches toward Sustainable Forage-Livestock Systems: Strip-Planting a Legume into a Warm-Season Perennial Grass Pasture
Despite the demonstrated potential of rhizoma peanut (Arachis glabrata Benth.; RP) for grazing in the southeastern USA (Ortega-S. et al. 1992), high establishment cost and removal of land from production during establishment have limited its use to primarily hay production systems. The premise of this experiment is that strip-planting RP in existing bahiagrass (Paspalum notatum FlĂŒgge) pastures offers the opportunity to use grass forage during the legume establishment phase so that land need not be totally removed from grazing, while allowing successful establishment of the legume
The Apparent Requirement for Protein Synthesis during G2 Phase Is due to Checkpoint Activation
Protein synthesis inhibitors have long been known to prevent G2 phase cells from entering mitosis. Lockhead et al. demonstrate that this G2 arrest is due to the activation of p38 MAPK, not insufficient protein synthesis, arguing that protein synthesis in G2 phase is not absolutely required for mitotic entry
C-axis Optical Sum Rule in Josephson Coupled Vortex State
Observed violations of the -axis optical sum rule can give important
information on deviations from in-plane Fermi liquid behavior and on the nature
of interlayer coupling between adjacent copper oxide planes. Application of a
magnetic field perpendicular to these planes is another way to probe in-plane
dynamics. We find that the optical sum rule is considerably modified in the
presence of the -axis magnetic field. Interlayer correlation of pancake
vortices is involved in the sum rule modification; however, details of the
