    Impact of surface sizing on inkjet printing quality

    Printing quality is strongly influenced by the structural and chemical properties of paper surface, and is one of the most important factors concerning costumer’s evaluation. Thus, all studies regarding the evaluation of paper surface characteristics, the effects of surface treatments, paper-ink interactions as well as the influence of all these parameters on printing quality, are of utmost importance. The aim of this study is to analyze the influence on printing quality of different chemical surface treatments used in printing and writing papers and also identify the most relevant parameters for inkjet printing quality evaluation. For that, four paper samples were studied. Differences in the performance of the distinct samples were detected, and interpreted in terms of the different treatments. The results also revealed that contact angles measurements are a valuable tool to predict paper’s inkjet printing behavior

    Safe use of ozone gas in enamel adhesion

    Purpose: Evaluate the shear bond strength of a self-etching system to enamel pretreated with ozone and its type of fracture. Matherial and methods: Thirty sound bovine incisors were bisected and polished just before the application of the adhesive system. The adhesion area was limited to a 3-mm diameter. The specimens were randomly assigned to the experimental groups (n = 15) and composite resin cylinders were added to the tested surfaces, after the application of the adhesive according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Group G1 (AdheSE® with ozone) was previously prepared with ozone gas from the HealOzone unit (Kavo®) for 20 s, groups G2 (AdheSE®) was used as control. The specimens were stored in distilled water for 24 h at 37 ◦C with 100% humidity, before being thermocycled. The type of fracture was analyzed under scanning electronic microscope and the data were submitted to Shapiro–Wilk, Student’s t-test and Chi-squared statistical analyses. Results: The mean bond strengths were G1: 15.0 MPa (77.8% of adhesive fractures between enamel and adhesive) and G2: 13.1 MPa (36.4% of adhesive fractures between enamel and adhesive). Conclusion: The shear bond strength of a self-etching system was not influenced by the previous application of ozone gas.Objectivo: Avaliar as forças de resistência adesiva de um sistema adesivo auto-condicionador no esmalte pré-tratado com ozono e o tipo de fractura. Material e métodos: Trinta incisivos hígidos de origem bovina foram seccionados de forma a separar a coroa da raiz e polidos antes da colocação do sistema adesivo. A área de adesão foi limitada a 3 mm de diâmetro. Os espécimes foram aleatoriamente divididos (n = 15) e cilindros de resina composta foram adicionados às superfícies de teste após cada sistema adesivo ter sido aplicado de acordo com as instruções do fabricante. O grupo G1 (AdheSE® com ozono) foi condicionado com gás de ozono gerado pelo aparelho HealOzone (Kavo®),durante 20 segundos, G2 (AdheSE®) funcionou como controlo. Os espécimes foram mantidos em água destilada durante 24 horas numa estufa a 37 ◦C com 100% de humidade, antes da termociclagem. O tipo de fractura analisado ao MEV e os dados submetidos à análise estatística Shapiro–Wilk, Student’s t-test e Chi-squared. Resultados: As médias de resistência adesiva foram: G1:15,0 MPa (77,8% de fracturas adesivas entre o esmalte e o adesivo) e G4: 13,1 MPa (36,4% de fracturas adesivas entre o esmalte e o adesivo).     Atomic electrostatic maps of point defects in MoS2

    In this study, we use differential phase contrast images obtained by scanning transmission electron microscopy combined with computer simulations to map the atomic electrostatic fields of MoS2 monolayers and investigate the effect of sulphur monovacancies and divancancies on the atomic electric field and total charge distribution. A significant redistribution of the electric field in the regions containing defects is observed, with a progressive decrease in the strength of the projected electric field for each sulphur atom removed from its position. The electric field strength at the sulphur monovacancy sites is reduced by approximately 50% and nearly vanishes at the divacancy sites, where it drops to around 15% of the original value, demonstrating the tendency of these defects to attract positively charged ions or particles.     Impact of bacterial cellulose on the physical properties and printing quality of fine papers

    Bacterial nanocellulose (BNC), due to its inherent nanometric scale and strength properties, can be considered as a good candidate to be used in papermaking. This work explored the possibility of using it in the production of fine paper as a wet-end component and for the paper coating. Filler-containing handsheet production was performed with and without the presence of common additives typically used in the furnish of office papers. It was found that, under optimized conditions, BNC mechanically treated by high-pressure homogenization could improve all the evaluated paper properties (mechanical, optical and structural) without impairing the filler retention. However, paper strength was improved only to a small extent (increase in the tensile index of 8% for a filler content of ca. 27.5%). On the other hand, when used at the paper surface, remarkable improvements in the gamut area of >25% in comparison to the base paper and of >40% in comparison to only-starch coated papers were achieved for a formulation having 50% BNC and 50% of carboxymethylcellulose.     Eco-friendly methods for extraction and modification of cellulose: an overview

    Cellulose is the most abundant renewable polymer on Earth and can be obtained from several different sources, such as trees, grass, or biomass residues. However, one of the issues is that not all the fractionation processes are eco-friendly and are essentially based on cooking the lignocellulose feedstock in a harsh chemical mixture, such as NaOH + Na2S, and water, to break loose fibers. In the last few years, new sustainable fractionation processes have been developed that enable the obtaining of cellulose fibers in a more eco-friendly way. As a raw material, cellulose’s use is widely known and established in many areas. Additionally, its products/derivatives are recognized to have a far better environmental impact than fossil-based materials. Examples are textiles and packaging, where forest-based fibers may contribute to renewable and biodegradable substitutes for common synthetic materials and plastics.     Reference Model in BPMN Notation for a Production Scheduling System

    Companies are progressively investing in practices aimed at improving the quality of management, with the main purpose of enabling them to operate competitively in the present market. For this, it is necessary to document the activities and information of the existing business processes in the organization, aiming at reducing time and cost in the elaboration of the particular model. In this context, the objective of this work is to develop a reference model of the Production Scheduling (PS) processes, an important module of production planning and control (PPC). The research methodology used in this work was divided into the following stages: study of PS and business process modeling, definition of reference model processes, choice of methodology and process modeling tool, development of reference model and prototype of the software and, finally, analysis of results. The modeling notation used was the BPMN, since it is considered a standard language in the field of process modeling. The prototype was developed through the Delphi interface in order to apply the model to support the implementation of business management programs. As results, from a formal documentation, the model proved to be a useful mechanism in the understanding of the processes raised and appropriate in the support to the implantation of production management tools

    Behavioral Finance: A Different View in the State of Rio de Janeiro

    The objective of this work is to present the consolidation of foreign reflections of a new branch in the financial theory, behavioral finance, that it aims at to adhere to the psychological aspects and the sociological ones of the individuals in the process of taking of decision at the moment to carry through an investment, as well as its applications through the incorporation of evidences on the irrationality of the investor. This new segment has as objective the revision and the improvement of the economic-financial model used currently. Through this study it was verified presence of the effect of super valuation of the assets and the effect disposal, as well as of aversion to the risk, since in the occurred economic crisis in 2008 middle a bigger index in the closing of companies was evidenced, and a minor in the opening of companies in the state of Rio De Janeiro. The association to the behavioral finance in such a way provides the agreement of the psychological process that motivates the investments, assisting in the construction of a model of more adequate taking of decision, how much in the act of contract of its administrators who will have to possess abilities adequate psychological techniques and in intention to prevent cognitive bias as reliable excess. The regression for being static got errors in its forecast high thus was not an incisive method, being able to be applied the forecast of demand of products, not obtaining success thus in this model

    The study of behavioral finance is characterized by analyzing the volatility of financial markets, however, in a contemporary view, one can also apply it in other fields such as commerce and factories, and its dislike to be able to invest or not its financial capital . The objective of this work is to present foreign reflections on a new branch in financial theory, Behavioral Finance, which aims to adhere the psychological and sociological aspects of the individuals in the decision making process at the time of making an investment, as well as their applications through incorporation evidence of the investor\u27s irrationality. This new segment aims to review and improve the current economic-financial model. The association with behavioral finances provides both the understanding of the psychological process that motivates the investments, helping in the construction of a more adequate decision-making model, and in the hiring of its managers who must possess adequate technical and psychological skills in order to avoid cognitive bias as overconfidence
