Mossbauer and magnetization studies of amorphous NdFeB compositionally modulated thin films

Several NdFeB compositionally modulated thin films are studied by using both conversion electron Mossbauer spectra and SQUID (superconducting quantum-interference-device) magnetometry. Both the hyperfine fields and the easy magnetization magnitude are not correlated with the modulation characteristic length (lambda) while the magnetization perpendicular to the thin-film plane decreases as lambda increases. The spectra were recorded at room temperature being the gamma rays perpendicular to the substrate plane. The magnetization measurements were recorded by using a SHE SQUID magnetometer in applied magnetic fields up to 5.5 T and in the temperature range between 1.8 and 30 K

Redefinition of basic modules of an intelligent tutoring system: the tutor module

It has been noticed that during the initial semesters of Computing Engineering that the amount of human tutors is insufficient. The students/tutors ratio is very high and there is a great difference in the acquired knowledge and backgrounds. The idea is that a system could emulate the human tutor and besides provide the student with a degree of flexibility for the selection of the most adequate tutorial type. This could be a feasible solution to the stated problem. Accumulation of long-chain bases in yeast promotes their conversion to a long-chain base vinyl ether

Long-chain bases (LCBs) are the precursors to ceramide and sphingolipids in eukaryotic cells. They are formed by the action of serine palmitoyl-CoA transferase (SPT), a complex of integral membrane proteins located in the endoplasmic reticulum. SPT activity is negatively regulated by Orm proteins to prevent the toxic overaccumulation of LCBs. Here we show that overaccumulation of LCBs in yeast results in their conversion to a hitherto undescribed LCB derivative, an LCB vinyl ether. The LCB vinyl ether is predominantly formed from phytosphingosine (PHS) as revealed by conversion of odd chain length tracers C17-dihydrosphingosine and C17- PHS into the corresponding LCB vinyl ether derivative. PHS vinyl ether formation depends on ongoing acetyl-CoA synthesis, and its levels are elevated when the LCB degradative pathway is blocked by deletion of the major LCB kinase, LCB4, or the LCB phosphate lyase, DPL1. PHS vinyl ether formation thus appears to constitute a shunt for the LCB phosphate- and lyase-dependent degradation of LCBs. Consistent with a role of PHS vinyl ether formation in LCB detoxification, the lipid is efficiently exported from the cells

Generación de piloto automático difuso para maniobras de embarcaciones

This paper introduces a method to generate autopilots for ship headings by using issues from the observation of control actions performed by human operators. The controller is designed based on fuzzy logic and uses triangular membership functions for the antecedent and consequent functions for Singleton type. For an automatic adjustment of the consequential, the recursive least squares method was used. This method is used to generate and validate the course driver of a 350-m tanker, at different load conditions.Este documento presenta un método para generar pilotos automáticos para rumbo de embarcación mediante el uso de asuntos provenientes de la observación de acciones de control realizadas por operadores humanos. El controlador está diseñado basado en lógica difusa (fuzzy logic) y utiliza funciones de pertenencia triangular para las funciones antecedentes y consecuentes para tipo Singleton. Para un ajuste automático de la consecuente, se utilizó el método de mínimos cuadrados recursivos.
