A novel approach to modelling and simulating the contact behaviour between a human hand model and a deformable object
A deeper understanding of biomechanical behaviour of human hands becomes fundamental for any human hand-operated Q2 activities. The integration of biomechanical knowledge of human hands into product design process starts to play an increasingly important role in developing an ergonomic product-to-user interface for products and systems requiring high level of comfortable and responsive interactions. Generation of such precise and dynamic models can provide scientific evaluation tools to support product and system development through simulation. This type of support is urgently required in many applications such as hand skill training for surgical operations, ergonomic study of a product or system developed and so forth. The aim of this work is to study the contact behaviour between the operators’ hand and a hand-held tool or other similar contacts, by developing a novel and precise nonlinear 3D finite element model of the hand and by investigating the contact behaviour through simulation. The contact behaviour is externalised by solving the problem using the bi-potential method. The human body’s biomechanical characteristics, such as hand deformity and structural behaviour, have been fully modelled by implementing anisotropic hyperelastic laws. A case study is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the approac
Partition based vector filtering technique for suppression of noise in digital color images
A partition-based adaptive vector filter is proposed for the restoration of corrupted digital color images. The novelty of the filter lies in its unique three-stage adaptive estimation. The local image structure is first estimated by a series of center-weighted reference filters. Then the distances between the observed central pixel and estimated references are utilized to classify the local inputs into one of preset structure partition cells. Finally, a weighted filtering operation, indexed by the partition cell, is applied to the estimated references in order to restore the central pixel value. The weighted filtering operation is optimized off-line for each partition cell to achieve the best tradeoff between noise suppression and structure preservation. Recursive filtering operation and recursive weight training are also investigated to further boost the restoration performance. The proposed filter has demonstrated satisfactory results in suppressing many distinct types of noise in natural color images. Noticeable performance gains are demonstrated over other prior-art methods in terms of standard objective measurements, the visual image quality and the computational complexity
Global behavior of cosmological dynamics with interacting Veneziano ghost
In this paper, we shall study the dynamical behavior of the universe
accelerated by the so called Veneziano ghost dark energy component locally and
globally by using the linearization and nullcline method developed in this
paper. The energy density is generalized to be proportional to the Hawking
temperature defined on the trapping horizon instead of Hubble horizon of the
Friedmann-Robertson-Walker (FRW) universe. We also give a prediction of the
fate of the universe and present the bifurcation phenomenon of the dynamical
system of the universe. It seems that the universe could be dominated by dark
energy at present in some region of the parameter space.Comment: 8 pages, 7 figures, accepted for publication in JHE
