Creating a Lab for Fire Protection Analysis

The Academia Nacional de Bomberos (ANB) of Costa Rica is advancing their basic firefighter training with the goal of becoming certified as a parauniversitaria. Our project team helped the Bomberos achieve their goal by remodeling an existing classroom into a fully equipped laboratory for testing, demonstration and research. We determined regulations, potential suppliers, safety procedures, equipment, and created a design for a scientific laboratory that best fits the Bomberos’ needs and requirements while remaining under budget

Architecture & Human Behavior

Recent studies suggest that human psychology and cognition can be affected by the habitual elements and built environment of a space, specifically the color, light, sound, shape, and space of a room. These factors can affect the perception of information within the brain and therefore influence behaviors such as productivity and attentiveness. In this project, we studied the impact of color on the human perspective and looked at how it can best be implemented in an academic space on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute campus.
