A quantum way for metamaterials

A new future for metamaterials is suggested, involving the insertion of quantum degrees of freedom, under the guise of quantum dots or cold atoms, in an photonic matrix. Impedance operator description of a meta--surface with electric and magnetic dipoles

A meta-surface made of a collection of nano-resonators characterized an electric dipole and a magnetic dipole was studied in the regime where the wavelength is large with respect to the size of the resonators.
