Processing and Development of Dragon Fruit Wine
The research project was conducted to establish protocols in the production of dragon fruit wine from unmarketable and surplus harvest of dragon fruits. The products were characterized in terms of physico-chemical and sensory properties. Acceptable semi-sweet dragon fruit wine was produced from fermenting must with 250g sugar and 2t yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) per kg of dragon fruit. Dragon fruit wine produced has moderately clear, moderately brilliant yellow color, moderately complex detectable aroma, fair texture, good balance of a number of detectable flavors and smooth and rich taste that lingers in the mouth after swallowing. The dragon fruit wine was given unanimous acceptable ratings without any negative acceptable rating based on the results of evaluation using 100 consumer-type judges
Diagnosis of Linking Activities of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering of Universidad Tecnica De Manabi
The aim of the study is to determine the contribution of universities to the development of society through linkage projects carried out by students of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering at the Universidad TĂ©cnica de ManabĂ. At work, the results achieved in the institutional evaluation and self-assessment racing related indicators linking with society and offered projects are identified by the career of Agricultural Engineering in the period of the past five years are analyzed. Later a survey was applied to communities to determine their needs are the same, in order to compare the offered with the defendant and propose improvements in the process. The results of the survey of the communities show that some of the defendant's themes have not been offered so not being met community needs. As a result of this diagnosis strategy that support the continuous improvement of the process of linking with society career of Agricultural Engineering, Universidad TĂ©cnica de ManabĂ and contribute to social and economic development of the territory they are proposed
Loss of strength in Ni3Al at elevated temperatures
Stress decrease above the stress peak temperature (750 K) is studied in h123i single crystals of Ni3(Al, 3 at.% Hf ). Two thermally activated deformation mechanisms are evidenced on the basis of stress relaxation and strain rate change experiments. From 500 to 1070 K, the continuity of the activation volume/temperature curves reveals a single mechanism of activation enthalpy 3.8 eV/atom and volume 90 b3 at 810K with an athermal stress of 330 MPa. Over the very same temperature interval, impurity or solute diffusion towards dislocation cores is evidenced
through serrated yielding, peculiar shapes of stress–strain curves while changing the rate of straining and stress relaxation experiments. This complicates the
identification of the deformation mechanism, which is likely connected with cube glide. From 1070 to 1270 K, the high-temperature mechanism has an activation
enthalpy and volume of 4.8 eV/atom and 20 b3, respectively, at 1250 K
A new cell primo-culture method for freshwater benthic diatom communities
A new cell primo-culture method was developed for the benthic diatom community isolated from biofilm sampled in rivers. The approach comprised three steps: (1) scraping biofilm from river pebbles, (2) diatom isolation
from biofilm, and (3) diatom community culture. With a view to designing a method able to stimulate the growth of diatoms, to limit the development of other microorganisms, and to maintain in culture a community similar to the original natural one, different factors were tested in step 3:
cell culture medium (Chu No 10 vs Freshwater “WC” medium modified), cell culture vessel, and time of culture. The results showed that using Chu No 10 medium in an Erlenmeyer flask for cell culture was the optimal method,
producing enough biomass for ecotoxicological tests as well as minimising development of other microorganisms. After 96 h of culture, communities differed from the original communities sampled in the two rivers studied.
Species tolerant of eutrophic or saprobic conditions were favoured during culture. This method of diatom community culture affords the opportunity to assess, in vitro, the effects of different chemicals or effluents (water samples andindustrial effluents) on diatom communities, as well as on diatom cells, from a wide range of perspectives
Aerosol-Assisted CVD-Grown PdO Nanoparticle-Decorated Tungsten Oxide Nanoneedles Extremely Sensitive and Selective to Hydrogen
We report for the first time the successful synthesis of palladium (Pd) nanoparticle (NP)-decorated tungsten trioxide (WO3) nanoneedles (NNs) via a two-step aerosol-assisted chemical vapor deposition approach. Morphological, structural, and elemental composition analysis revealed that a Pd(acac)2 precursor was very suitable to decorate WO3 NNs with uniform and well-dispersed PdO NPs. Gas-sensing results revealed that decoration with PdO NPs led to an ultrasensitive and selective hydrogen (H2) gas sensor (sensor response peaks at 1670 at 500 ppm of H2) with low operating temperature (150 °C). The response of decorated NNs is 755 times higher than that of bare WO3 NNs. Additionally, at a temperature near that of the ambient temperature (50 °C), the response of this sensor toward the same concentration of H2 was 23, which is higher than that of some promising sensors reported in the literature. Finally, humidity measurements showed that PdO/WO3 sensors displayed low-cross-sensitivity toward water vapor, compared to bare WO3 sensors. The addition of PdO NPs helps to minimize the effect of ambient humidity on the sensor response
An Introductory Guide to Aligning Networks Using SANA, the Simulated Annealing Network Aligner.
Sequence alignment has had an enormous impact on our understanding of biology, evolution, and disease. The alignment of biological networks holds similar promise. Biological networks generally model interactions between biomolecules such as proteins, genes, metabolites, or mRNAs. There is strong evidence that the network topology-the "structure" of the network-is correlated with the functions performed, so that network topology can be used to help predict or understand function. However, unlike sequence comparison and alignment-which is an essentially solved problem-network comparison and alignment is an NP-complete problem for which heuristic algorithms must be used.Here we introduce SANA, the Simulated Annealing Network Aligner. SANA is one of many algorithms proposed for the arena of biological network alignment. In the context of global network alignment, SANA stands out for its speed, memory efficiency, ease-of-use, and flexibility in the arena of producing alignments between two or more networks. SANA produces better alignments in minutes on a laptop than most other algorithms can produce in hours or days of CPU time on large server-class machines. We walk the user through how to use SANA for several types of biomolecular networks
A conceptual framework: A systematic Literature Review on Educational Leadership and Management
The research aimed to provide a comprehensive understanding of the various leadership styles, theories, and practices that have been studied and applied in the field of education. Through a systematic literature review, the study analyzed and synthesized the existing body of knowledge on educational leadership and management, with a focus on the key themes of transformational leadership, collaborative leadership, ethics and values, emotional intelligence, and organizational culture. The results of the study revealed that transformational leadership has been widely recognized as a crucial factor in creating a positive and effective learning environment. Collaborative leadership, which involves the participation and engagement of stakeholders in decision-making, was also found to be a significant aspect of successful educational leadership. Additionally, the study emphasized the importance of ethics and values in leadership, as well as the role of emotional intelligence in promoting effective communication and interpersonal relationships. Finally, the study underscored the impact of organizational culture on the overall effectiveness of leadership and management practices in education. Overall, the study concludes that educational leadership and management is a complex and multi-faceted field, requiring a comprehensive understanding of various leadership styles, theories, and practices. The findings of the study contribute to the ongoing discourse on educational leadership and management, and provide a useful reference for practitioners, researchers, and policy makers in the field
Analysis of chromosome positions in the interphase nucleus of Chinese hamster cells by laser-UV-microirradiation experiments
Unsynchronized cells of an essentially diploid strain of female Chinese hamster cells derived from lung tissue (CHL) were laser-UV-microirradiated (=257 nm) in the nucleus either at its central part or at its periphery. After 7–9 h postincubation with 0.5 mM caffeine, chromosome preparations were made in situ. Twenty-one and 29 metaphase spreads, respectively, with partial chromosome shattering (PCS) obtained after micro-irradiation at these two nuclear sites, were Q-banded and analyzed in detail. A positive correlation was observed between the frequency of damage of chromosomes and both their DNA content and length at metaphase. No significant difference was observed between the frequencies of damage obtained for individual chromosomes at either site of microirradiation. The frequency of joint damage of homologous chromosomes was low as compared to nonhomologous ones. Considerable variation was noted in different cells in the combinations of jointly shattered chromosomes. Evidence which justifies an interpretation of these data in terms of an interphase arrangement of chromosome territories is discussed. Our data strongly argue against somatic pairing as a regular event, and suggest a considerable variability of chromosome positions in different nuclei. However, present data do not exclude the possibility of certain non-random chromosomal arrangements in CHL-nuclei. The interphase chromosome distribution revealed by these experiments is compared with centromere-centromere, centromere-center and angle analyses of metaphase spreads and the relationship between interphase and metaphase arrangements of chromosomes is discussed
