    We present a measurement of the nuclear modification factor of electrons from heavy- flavour hadron decays at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at {\surd}sNN = 2.76 TeV. Electrons are identified in the pt range 1.5 GeV/c < pt < 6 GeV/c.     Jet substructure measurements in pp collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV with ALICE

    We present a variety of jet substructure measurements performed in pp collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV with the focus on the groomed jet momentum fraction zgz_{\rm{g}} in a wide range of pTp_{\rm{T}} between 20 and 200 GeV/cc and jet resolution 0.2<R<0.50.2 < R < 0.5. Thanks to the capabilities of the ALICE apparatus jet substructure measurement are possible with an infrared constituent cutoff at 0.3 GeV. Furthermore, the angular resolution of the ALICE detectors allows the measurement of jet substructure observables with a high precision. The measurements are compared to pQCD calculations and MC generators. Furthermore, the measurement of track-based jets at the same centre-of-mass energy and its dependence on the event activity are presented for different jet resolutions.Comment: Proceedings of the International Conference on Hard and Electromagnetic Probes of High-Energy Nuclear Collisions, 201

    Graphene nanoribbons with mixed cove-cape-zigzag edge structure

    A recently developed bottom-up synthesis strategy enables the fabrication of graphene nanoribbons with well-defined width and non-trivial edge structures from dedicated molecular precursors. Here we discuss the synthesis and properties of zigzag nanoribbons (ZGNRs) modified with periodic cove-cape-cove units along their edges. Contrary to pristine ZGNRs, which show antiferromagnetic correlation of their edge states, the edge-modified ZGNRs exhibit a finite single particle band gap without localized edge states. We report the on-surface synthesis of such edge-modified ZGNRs and discuss tunneling conductance dI/dV spectra and dI/dV spatial maps that reveal a noticeable localization of electronic states at the cape units and the opening of a band gap without presence of edge states of magnetic origin. A thorough ab initio investigation of the electronic structure identifies the conditions under which antiferromagnetically coupled, edge-localized states reappear in the electronic structure. Further modifications of the ribbon structure are proposed that lead to an enhancement of such features, which could find application in nanoelectronics and spintronics

    The bodily social self: a link between phenomenal and narrative selfhood

    The Phenomenal Self (PS) is widely considered to be dependent on body representations, whereas the Narrative Self (NS) is generally thought to rely on abstract cognitive representations. The concept of the Bodily Social Self (BSS) might play an important role in explaining how the high level cognitive self-representations enabling the NS might emerge from the bodily basis of the PS. First, the phenomenal self (PS) and narrative self (NS), are briefly examined. Next, the BSS is defined and its potential for explaining aspects of social cognition is explored. The minimal requirements for a BSS are considered, before reviewing empirical evidence regarding the development of the BSS over the first year of life. Finally, evidence on the involvement of the body in social distinctions between self and other is reviewed to illustrate how the BSS is affected by both the bottom up effects of multisensory stimulation and the top down effects of social identification

    Production of He-4 and (4) in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S=2.76 TeV at the LHC

    Results on the production of He-4 and (4) nuclei in Pb-Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-S = 2.76 TeV in the rapidity range vertical bar y vertical bar <1, using the ALICE detector, are presented in this paper. The rapidity densities corresponding to 0-10% central events are found to be dN/dy4(He) = (0.8 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.3 (syst)) x 10(-6) and dN/dy4 = (1.1 +/- 0.4 (stat) +/- 0.2 (syst)) x 10(-6), respectively. This is in agreement with the statistical thermal model expectation assuming the same chemical freeze-out temperature (T-chem = 156 MeV) as for light hadrons. The measured ratio of (4)/He-4 is 1.4 +/- 0.8 (stat) +/- 0.5 (syst). (C) 2018 Published by Elsevier B.V.Peer reviewe

    Azimuthal anisotropy of charged jet production in root s(NN)=2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions

    We present measurements of the azimuthal dependence of charged jet production in central and semi-central root s(NN) = 2.76 TeV Pb-Pb collisions with respect to the second harmonic event plane, quantified as nu(ch)(2) (jet). Jet finding is performed employing the anti-k(T) algorithm with a resolution parameter R = 0.2 using charged tracks from the ALICE tracking system. The contribution of the azimuthal anisotropy of the underlying event is taken into account event-by-event. The remaining (statistical) region-to-region fluctuations are removed on an ensemble basis by unfolding the jet spectra for different event plane orientations independently. Significant non-zero nu(ch)(2) (jet) is observed in semi-central collisions (30-50% centrality) for 20 <p(T)(ch) (jet) <90 GeV/c. The azimuthal dependence of the charged jet production is similar to the dependence observed for jets comprising both charged and neutral fragments, and compatible with measurements of the nu(2) of single charged particles at high p(T). Good agreement between the data and predictions from JEWEL, an event generator simulating parton shower evolution in the presence of a dense QCD medium, is found in semi-central collisions.
