Systematic Distribution of Checklist of First Recorded Longhorn Beetle (Insecta: Coleoptera) Fauna from Sheringal, Pakistan
The longhorn beetles (Arthropoada; Insecta) are one of the groups of beetles, which are pests and their antennae are very long. They have been first recorded by random collection method from the 6 quadrates of Sheringal, Pakistan during August-2015 to May-2016. The specimens collected (nsc=351) were belonging to only family Cerambycidae of order Coleoptera with 3 subfamilies and 5 tribes having 6 genera and 9 species. However, subfamily Cerambycinae (covered 31.3%) has 2 tribes, Cerambycini (26.5%) with great-capricorn beetle, Cerambyx cerdo Linnaeus (16.5%) and small-oak beech-capricorn beetle, Cerambyx scopolii Füssli (9.8%); and Callichromatini (5%) with house-longhorn beetle, Hylotrupes bajulus (Linnaeus); moreover, subfamily Lamiinae (45.3%) has only 1 tribe, Batocerini (45%) with mango-stem borers, Batocera davidis Deyrolle (35%), tropical fig borers, Batocera rufomaculata (De-Geer) (3.7%) and mulberry (long horn beetle) borer, Apriona germarii (Hope) (7%); further, subfamily Prioninae (23.4%) has 2 tribes, Prionini (14%) with Prionus root borer, Prionus californicus Motschulsky (10.3%) and broad necked root borer, Prionus laticollis (Drury) (4%); and Callipogonini (9%) with pine sawyer beetle, Ergates spiculatus LeConte. They are first time reported from Sheringal. Therefore, the present research is useful for determining biodiversity of the same. Their detail study is under process
Perceived location of virtual content measurement method in optical see through augmented reality
An important research question for optical see through AR is, “how accurately and precisely can a virtual object’s perceived location be measured in three dimensional space?” Previously, a method was developed for measuring the perceived 3D location of virtual objects using Microsoft HoloLens1 display. This study found an unexplained rightward perceptual bias on horizontal plane; most participants were right eye dominant, and consistent with the hypothesis that perceived location is biased in eye dominance direction. In this thesis, a replication study is reported, which includes binocular and monocular viewing conditions, recruits an equal number of left and right eye dominant participants, uses Microsoft HoloLens2 display. This replication study examined whether the perceived location of virtual objects is biased in the direction of dominant eye. Results suggest that perceived location is not biased in the direction of dominant eye. Compared to previous study’s findings, overall perceptual accuracy increased, and precision was similar
Testing for Environmental Kuznets Curve and Pollution Haven Hypothesis: A Continental Analysis
Environmental pollution and sustainable development have become major concerns for policy makers as both may not be achieved simultaneously. On one hand, economic growth and foreign direct investments (FDI) are necessary for the countries to prosper. On the other hand, economic growth and FDI are related with environmental pollution which affects atmosphere at global level and poses threat to all those who share common environment. To address this concern, this study tests the validly of environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) and pollution haven hypothesis (PHH) for CO2 emission. The study uses cross-sectional as well as panel data for a sample of 42 countries from three continents (Asia, Africa and Europe) and covers the period from 1990 to 2014. The study applies ordinary least square, pooled OLS, fixed effect model, random effect and twostage least square techniques to estimate the models. The study finds that energy use and globalization positively impact pollution when estimated for full sample. Moreover, the study suggests that EKC holds for full sample, Asia, and Europe while results do not confirm EKC for Africa continent. Besides, the study finds that PHH does not sustain in any of the three continents. The study suggests that use of cleaner energy should be promoted to mitigate CO2 emission. Therefore, the policy makers should design alternative policies for Africa to reduce global environmental degradation
Renewal and Transformation of Cultures in Modern World: a case study of cultural change during Mustafa Kemal Ataturk
As a result of globalization, cultural patterns and trends are increasingly being embraced all over the world. Culture in the modern world has shifted from being a set of practices to more of a philosophy. It is not a new practice, but throughout the early nineteenth century, it became more widespread for powerful states to acquire the cultures of other influential nations. To fully grasp this theory of cultural change and cultural adoption, it is necessary to first have some familiarity with Ataturk and the reforms he enacted, as well as the concept of cultural transformation. These different kinds of adoption had an effect on various parts of cultural life, but this sort of nationalism was also a product of the revolution that brought about these changes. This article makes an attempt to trace the transformation of culture and society under the leadership of Mustafa Kemal Ataturk. This includes the language, clothing, education system, and religious practices. However, the author restricts the authority of Turks to the geographical boundaries that exist at the present time. The goal of this endeavour was to bring the Turks and Turkish culture up to date by modelling it after that of the West, which at the time was the most powerful region in the world in all respects. The foundation had been laid for the achievement of this agenda; nevertheless, if these reforms were not implemented, all of these reforms were regarded as vital in order to accept modern norms and values. These cultural shifts, along with the political shifts that accompanied them, were embraced as part of a revolutionary movement. This article delves into all of these current tendencies, as well as Ataturk's ability to make profound changes in Turkish society in a relatively short amount of time when he was in power
Exploring Difference in Gender Perceptions Towards Teacher's Motivational Behaviour in English Language Classroom
The role of a teacher is crucial for language learning specifically in English language classrooms. An important variable in this regard is the gender of students. This study investigates the impact of gender on language learning motivations of students studying at the undergraduate level in the City University of Science and IT and Institute of Management Sciences, Peshawar. Questionnaire data were collected from 175 students. The variables of the study include gender and its relationship with language attitudes and motivation. The results revealed that there exists the relationship between gender differences in variables under consideration. Female students had more expectations as compared to their male fellows. The study has useful pedagogical implications
