And towards the end of the session, Foucault – half-joking – claims: Italians were the first to formalize the difference between law and police, because they are always one step ahead of anyone. In this essay, Lorenzo Fabbri takes at face value Foucault’s remark and shows how it is the discovery of life that in the 16th century propelled, and still propels today, Italian thought ahead of its times

Changes in the microsomal proteome of tomato fruit during ripening
The variations in the membrane proteome of tomato fruit pericarp during ripening have been investigated by mass spectrometry-based label-free proteomics. Mature green (MG30) and red ripe (R45) stages were chosen because they are pivotal in the ripening process: MG30 corresponds to the end of cellular expansion, when fruit growth has stopped and fruit starts ripening, whereas R45 corresponds to the mature fruit. Protein patterns were markedly different: among the 1315 proteins identified with at least two unique peptides, 145 significantly varied in abundance in the process of fruit ripening. The subcellular and biochemical fractionation resulted in GO term enrichment for organelle proteins in our dataset, and allowed the detection of low-abundance proteins that were not detected in previous proteomic studies on tomato fruits. Functional annotation showed that the largest proportion of identified proteins were involved in cell wall metabolism, vesicle-mediated transport, hormone biosynthesis, secondary metabolism, lipid metabolism, protein synthesis and degradation, carbohydrate metabolic processes, signalling and response to stress
Considerazioni sulla Κροκωνιδῶν διαδικασIα
The aim of this essay is to examine the remaining evidence concerning the dispute that took place between the γένος of Krokonidai and that of Koironidai. Analyzing the information handed down by lexicographers and by those orators who probably spoke in defense of each different stock, it is possible to make some conjectures about the reconstruction of the argument which most likely dealt with the claim of religious privileges in the Eleusinian cult. Probably the dispute brought to two different lawsuits: certainly a διαδικασíα and maybe a δίκη ἐξούλης as well. If on the one hand we don’t know how the dispute ended, on the other we know that Krokonidai had more prestige than their rival family.Il presente lavoro si propone di esaminare le testimonianze pervenute circa la contesa che vide contrapposto il γένος dei Krokonidai contro quello dei Koironidai. Dall’esame delle informazioni tramandate dai lessicografi e dagli oratori che presumibilmente presero le difese delle due stirpi, è possibile avanzare ipotesi in merito alla ricostruzione della vicenda, che con buona probabilità verteva sulla rivendicazione di privilegi di carattere religioso all’interno del culto eleusino. È verisimile che la disputa diede luogo a due diversi procedimenti giudiziari: sicuramente una διαδικασíα e forse una δίκη ἐξούλης. Se da un lato non si è a conoscenza dell’esito finale della vicenda, dall’altro è certo il maggior prestigio di cui godettero i Krokonidai rispetto ai loro avversari

Questa tesi ha l’obiettivo di introdurre il lettore allo studio dei buchi neri, partendo dalle equazioni di campo di Einstein fino ad arrivare a discutere il paradosso dell’informazione di Hawking ed il Principio Olografico. Le principali caratteristiche matematiche e fisiche verrano esposte sulla base delle teorie della relatività generale e dei campi quantistici, facendo ampio uso di uno spazio-tempo a simmetria sferica e delle coordinate di Rindler. Particolare importanza verrà data alle proprietà termodinamiche dei buchi neri ed al loro processo di evaporazione.
I primi tre capitoli contengono materiale di base, che verrà poi utilizzato per esporre la trattazione termodinamica a partire dal quarto capitolo
Hygieia minore. Aspetti iconografici della dea nella numismatica e nella glittica
This study aims at analyzing the different iconographic aspects of goddess Hygieia in Greek coinage and glyptic. For this purpose the coins and gems bearing the goddess’ representation have been divided into different iconographic typologies, inside which a careful examination of her iconographic attributes has been developed. The intent is to show, where possible, the symbolism and meanings that were attributed to these various images. Numismatic often allows to attest the presence of sanctuaries specifically dedicated to Hygieia in the different poleis and it shows how the Roman emperors and empresses, as long as their public life was concerned, frequently associated their own image with that of the goddess according to specific motivations, not least political ones. On the other hand, glyptic allows to point out how the image of Hygieia was employed in private life with a propitiatory purpose.Lo studio si prefigge di analizzare i differenti aspetti iconografici di Hygieia nella monetazione e nelle gemme provenienti dai territori greci. A questo scopo gli esemplari numismatici e glittici in cui compare la dea sono stati suddivisi in diverse tipologie iconografiche, all’interno delle quali è stato svolto un attento esame dei suoi vari attributi. L’intento è quello di mettere in luce, ove possibile, il simbolismo e i significati che di volta in volta furono attribuiti alle varie immagini; la numismatica permette spesso di attestare la presenza di luoghi di culto specificamente dedicati a Hygieia nelle varie poleis e mostra come, nella sfera pubblica, gli imperatori e le imperatrici romane associassero frequentemente la propria immagine con quella della dea secondo precise motivazioni, non di rado politiche. Di contro la glittica consente di osservare come l’immagine di Hygieia venisse impiegata in ambito privato con significati beneauguranti
Thermal and spectroscopic (TG/DSC-FTIR) characterization of mixed plastics for materials and energy recovery under pyrolytic conditions
Seven waste thermoplastic polymers (polypropylene,
polyethylene film, polyethylene terephthalate, polystyrene,
acrylonitrile–butadiene–styrene, high-impact polystyrene
and polybutadiene terephthalate, denoted as PP, PE
(film), PET, PS, ABS, HIPS and PBT, respectively) and four
synthetic mixtures thereof with different compositions representing
commingled postconsumer plastic waste and waste
of electrical and electronic equipment were studied by means
of simultaneous thermogravimetry/differential scanning
calorimetry coupled with Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy
(TG/DSC–FTIR) under pyrolytic conditions (inert
atmosphere). By summing all the heat change contributions
due to physical and/or chemical processes occurring (i.e.,
melting, decomposition), an overall energy, defined as the
degradation heat, was determined for both single component
and their mixtures. It was found to be about 4–5 % of the
exploitable energy of the input material. Vapors evolved
during the pyrolysis of single-component polymers and their
mixtures, analyzed using the FTIR apparatus, allowed identifying
the main reaction products as monomers or fragments
of the polymeric chain. Results from TG/DSC runs and FTIR
analysis show that there is no interaction among the plastic
components of the mixtures during the occurrence of
pyrolysis
