    Age, coloration and dominance in nonbreeding hummingbirds: A test of the asymmetry hypothesis

    During the nonbreeding season, adult Anna and black-chinned hummingbirds ( Calypte anna and Archilochus alexandri ) have lower defense costs and more exclusive territories than juveniles.
