Algebraic QFT in Curved Spacetime and quasifree Hadamard states: an introduction
Within this chapter (published as [49]) we introduce the overall idea of the
algebraic formalism of QFT on a fixed globally hyperbolic spacetime in the
framework of unital -algebras. We point out some general features of CCR
algebras, such as simplicity and the construction of symmetry-induced
homomorphisms. For simplicity, we deal only with a real scalar quantum field.
We discuss some known general results in curved spacetime like the existence of
quasifree states enjoying symmetries induced from the background, pointing out
the relevant original references. We introduce, in particular, the notion of a
Hadamard quasifree algebraic quantum state, both in the geometric and
microlocal formulation, and the associated notion of Wick polynomials.Comment: v3: better discussion of Unitary Equivalence, thanks to comments of

Extragalactic observatory science with the ASTRI mini-array at the Observatorio del Teide
The ASTRI Mini-Array is a next-generation system of nine imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes that is going to be built at the Observatorio del Teide site. After a first phase, in which the instrument will be operated as an experiment prioritizing a schedule of primary science cases, an observatory phase is foreseen in which other significant targets will be pointed. We focus on the observational feasibility of extragalactic sources and on astrophysical processes that best complement and expand the ASTRI Mini-Array core science, presenting the most relevant examples that are at reach of detection over long-term time scales and whose observation can provide breakthrough achievements in the very-high energy extragalactic science. Such examples cover a wide range of gamma-ray emitters, including the study of AGN low states in the multi-TeV energy range, the possible detection of Seyfert galaxies with long exposures and the searches of dark matter lines above 10 TeV. Simulations of the presented objects show that the instrument performance will be competitive at multi-TeV energies with respect to current arrays of Cherenkov telescopes
A Method for the Generation of Ectromelia Virus (ECTV) Recombinants: In Vivo Analysis of ECTV vCD30 Deletion Mutants
Ectromelia virus (ECTV) is the causative agent of mousepox, a lethal disease of mice with similarities to human smallpox. Mousepox progression involves replication at the initial site of infection, usually the skin, followed by a rapid spread to the secondary replicative organs, spleen and liver, and finally a dissemination to the skin, where the typical rash associated with this and other orthopoxviral induced diseases appears. Case fatality rate is genetically determined and reaches up to 100% in susceptible mice strains. Like other poxviruses, ECTV encodes a number of proteins with immunomodulatory potential, whose role in mousepox progression remains largely undescribed. Amongst these is a secreted homologue of the cellular tumour necrosis factor receptor superfamily member CD30 which has been proposed to modulate a Th1 immune response in vivo
Echinococcal liver cysts: treatment with echo-guided percutaneous puncture PAIR for echinococcal liver cysts
In spite of recent progress, treatment for liver echinococcal cysts is still far from satisfying. In recent years, percutaneous drainage has been increasingly used for this purpose and it has been shown to be an effective alternative to surgery and chemotherapy alone. This technique is known as PAIR, from Puncture, Aspiration, Injection (of a scolecidal agent), Reaspiration: here we present our experience and the state of the art of PAIR. Patients from Italy and Turkana (Kenya), harbouring 233 Gharbi type I, II and III echinococcal cysts were successfully treated with PAIR: it was performed according to protocols established at the Division of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, IRCCS--Policlinico S. Matteo, University of Pavia. In Italy, one relapse was recorded, four years after the procedure; the patient was treated again with PAIR; no cases of anaphylactic shock or peritoneal dissemination were observed in a follow-up of 10 years; only 10 minor complications (biliary fistula, urticarioid reaction, abscessualization of the cyst, anaphylactoid reactions) were reported. Long-term results indicate that in Gharbi type I, II and III echinococcal cysts, and in developing countries, in particular, PAIR is a first choice method for the treatment of abdominal localizations of this disease
