Novel types of anti-ecloud surfaces
In high power RF devices for space, secondary electron emission appears as
the main parameter governing the multipactor effect and as well as the e-cloud
in large accelerators. Critical experimental activities included development of
coatings with low secondary electron emission yield (SEY) for steel (large
accelerators) and aluminium (space applications). Coatings with surface
roughness of high aspect ratio producing the so-call secondary emission
suppression effect appear as the selected strategy. In this work a detailed
study of the SEY of these technological coatings and also the experimental
deposition methods (PVD and electrochemical) are presented. The coating-design
approach selected for new low SEY coatings include rough metals (Ag, Au, Al),
rough alloys (NEG), particulated and magnetized surfaces, and also graphene
like coatings. It was found that surface roughness also mitigate the SEY

On retracts, absolute retracts, and folds in cographs
Let G and H be two cographs. We show that the problem to determine whether H
is a retract of G is NP-complete. We show that this problem is fixed-parameter
tractable when parameterized by the size of H. When restricted to the class of
threshold graphs or to the class of trivially perfect graphs, the problem
becomes tractable in polynomial time. The problem is also soluble when one
cograph is given as an induced subgraph of the other. We characterize absolute

Foetal haemoglobin-blood cells (F-cells) as a feature of embryonic tumours (blastomas)
Tumour markers are important in the diagnosis and monitoring of many tumours. This study tested the hypothesis that an oncofoetal protein, foetal haemoglobin (HbF) is a potential tumour marker in embryonic tumours, useful for management. An immunohistochemical investigation of HbF blood cell (Fc) distribution was carried out in tumours and in bone marrow samples from 83 children and 13 adults with various embryonic tumours (blastomas), and in bone marrow samples of 24 leukaemia patients. In the three, main blastoma types, nephroblastoma (Wilms' tumour), neuroblastoma and retinoblastoma, where all the patients, except two, were children, around 80% of the tumour samples had Fc within proliferating blood vessels and spaces between tumour cells. In parallel, clusters of Fc, mostly F-erythroblasts (Feb), were distributed in the bone marrow of some of those patients and in the bone marrow of 79% of the leukaemia patients. Foetal haemoglobin, as well as being a potential prognostic cancer marker, is a potential indicator of DNA hypomethylation implicated in the development of these tumours, as well as in others previously noted for the presence of HbF
Pancreatic Polypeptide but Not Other Members of the Neuropeptide Y Family Shows a Moderate Association With Perceived Anxiety in Obese Men
Neuropeptide Y (NPY), peptide tyrosine tyrosine (PYY), and pancreatic polypeptide (PP) are important mediators in the bidirectional communication along the gut-brain-axis. Best known for their role in the regulation of appetite and food intake they are considered to play a crucial role in the development of obesity. Additionally, mounting evidence indicates a regulatory function in anxiety, mood and stress resilience with potential sex differences. In the present study, we examined the associations of NPY, PYY, and PP plasma levels with anxiety, depressiveness and perceived stress in obese patients. We analyzed 144 inpatients (90 female, 54 male, BMI mean: 49.4 kg/m(2)) in a naturalistic treatment setting for obesity and its somatic and mental comorbidities. Fasting blood samples were taken, and patients completed psychometric self-assessment questionnaires (GAD-7, PHQ-9, PSQ-20) within the first week after admission and before discharge. Plasma concentrations of the peptides were measured by ELISA. Women showed significant higher anxiety (GAD-7: 8.13 +/- 5.67 vs. 5.93 +/- 5.42, p = 0.04) and stress scores (PSQ-20: 52.62 +/- 23.5 vs. 41.23 +/- 22.53, p = 0.01) than men. In the longitudinal analysis women with a clinically relevant improvement of anxiety ( \u3e /= 5 points on GAD-7, p \u3c 0.001) also showed significant improvements in depression (PHQ-9: 38%, p = 0.002) and PSQ-20 scores (23%, p = 0.005) while anxiety-improved male patients only improved in the subscale tension of the PSQ-20 (34%, p = 0.02). In men we observed a positive correlation of PP with anxiety scores (GAD-7: r = 0.41, p = 0.007) and with age (r = 0.49, p = 0.001) on admission while NPY negatively correlated with age (r = -0.38, p = 0.01). In contrast, there were no significant associations (p \u3e 0.05) in female subjects in the cross-sectional as well as in the longitudinal analysis. In conclusion, women suffering from morbid obesity showed greater psychological comorbidity and considerable interactions among them. Despite that we solely observed associations of PP with anxiety and age with NPY and PP in men, suggesting a possible influence of sex hormones on the NPY system. However, improvement of anxiety scores did not lead to significant changes in NPY
X-Atlas: An Online Archive of Chandra's Stellar High Energy Transmission Gratings Observations
The high-resolution X-ray spectroscopy made possible by the 1999 deployment
of the Chandra X-ray Observatory has revolutionized our understanding of
stellar X-ray emission. Many puzzles remain, though, particularly regarding the
mechanisms of X-ray emission from OB stars. Although numerous individual stars
have been observed in high-resolution, realizing the full scientific potential
of these observations will necessitate studying the high-resolution Chandra
dataset as a whole. To facilitate the rapid comparison and characterization of
stellar spectra, we have compiled a uniformly processed database of all stars
observed with the Chandra High Energy Transmission Grating (HETG). This
database, known as X-Atlas, is accessible through a web interface with
searching, data retrieval, and interactive plotting capabilities. For each
target, X-Atlas also features predictions of the low-resolution ACIS spectra
convolved from the HETG data for comparison with stellar sources in archival
ACIS images. Preliminary analyses of the hardness ratios, quantiles, and
spectral fits derived from the predicted ACIS spectra reveal systematic
differences between the high-mass and low-mass stars in the atlas and offer
evidence for at least two distinct classes of high-mass stars. A high degree of
X-ray variability is also seen in both high and low-mass stars, including
Capella, long thought to exhibit minimal variability. X-Atlas contains over 130
observations of approximately 25 high-mass stars and 40 low-mass stars and will
be updated as additional stellar HETG observations become public. The atlas has
recently expanded to non-stellar point sources, and Low Energy Transmission
Grating (LETG) observations are currently being added as well
