Use of Radio Occultation to Evaluate Atmospheric Temperature Data from Spaceborne Infrared Sensors

With its high accuracy, stability, and worldwide coverage GPS radio occultation offers an attractive means of independently validating and calibrating the world's premier weather and climate sensors. These include such instruments as AIRS, AMSU, and MODIS on NASA's EOS platforms, and similar systems on operational weather satellites. GPSRO also offers a valuable comparison standard for global weather analyses, such as those produced by NOAA's National Center for Environmental Predictions (NCEP) and the European Centre for Medium-RangeWeather Forecasts (ECMWF)

    No full text
Results from a detailed study using the Crystal Ball detector at the SLAC e+e− storage ring SPEAR of the inclusive photon spectra from 1.8×106 ψ’ and 2.2×106 J/ψ decays are presented. Radiative transitions from the ψ’ to the χ2,1,0 states are observed with photon energies of 126.0±0.2±4, 169.6±0.3±4, and 258.4±0.4±4 MeV and branching ratios B(ψ’→γχ2,1,0) =(8.0±0.5±0.7)%, (9.0±0.5±0.7)%, and (9.9±0.5±0.8)%, respectively. Values for the natural linewidths of the χ states are obtained: Γ(χ2,1,0)=0.8–4.9, <3.8, and 13–21 MeV, respectively (90% C.L.). Improved values are found for the branching ratios B(ψ’→γηc) =(0.28±0.06)% and B(J/ψ→γηc)=(1.27±0.36)%, and for the natural width Γ(ηc)=11.5±4.5 MeV

Measurement of the Properties of the eta' and Search For Other Resonances In Gamma-gamma -> eta pi0 pi0

The reaction e+e- -> e+e- eta pi0 pi0 has been observed with the Crystal Ball detector at the DORIS II storage ring at DESY. The eta pi0 pi0 mass spectrum is dominated by the eta', and the two-photon width Gamma(eta' -> gamma gamma) is determined to be 4.6+-0.4+-0.6 keV. Limits on Gamma(X ->gamma gamma) x B(X -> eta pi pi) are given for other possible states

The Crystal Ball detector has been used at the DORIS II storage ring at DESY to study the reaction e+ e- -> e+ e- gamma* gamma* -> e+ e- X -> e+ e- gamma gamma, where X is a narrow resonance with mass between 100 and 3000 MeV. Formation of pi0, eta and eta' mesons is observed, and the following meson partial widths are obtained: Gamma(pi0 -> gamma gamma) = 7.7+-0.5+-0.5 eV, Gamma(eta -> gamma gamma) = 0.514+-0.017+-0.035 keV, and Gamma(eta' -> gamma gamma) = 4.7+-0.5+-0.5 keV. No other narrow resonances are observed, and upper limits are given for the product Gamma(X -> gamma gamma) B(X -> gamma gamma)

Using the Crystal Ball detector at the DORIS II e+e−e^+e^− storage ring, we measure the ηπ0π0ηπ^0π^0 mass spectrum in the reaction e+e−→e+e−ηπ0π0→e+e−6γe^+e^−→e^+e^−ηπ^0π^0→e^+e^−6γ from the ηπ0π0 threshold to about 2500 MeV/c2^2. The spectrum is dominated by the η′, for which we determine Γγγ(η′)BR(η′→6γ)=0.36±0.02±0.03Γγγ(η′)BR(η'→6γ)=0.36±0.02±0.03 keV. In addition, we observe an enhancement in the cross section near 1900 MeV/c2^2 which we attribute to the two-photon production of a new resonance X(1900). The angular distributions and the invariant mass distribution of the ηπ0 subsystem are consistent with those expected for the hypothetical η2 meson with JPC=2±JPC=2\pm. For this JP assignment the resonance parameters are M(X) = 1876 ±35±50 MeV/c2^2, Γtot(X)=228±90±34 MeV/c2^2 and Γγγ(X)BR(X→ηππ)=0.9±0.2±0.3Γγγ(X)BR(X→ηππ) = 0.9±0.2±0.3 keV

The spectrum is dominated by the eta′, for which we determine Gamma(gamma gamma)(eta') BR(eta' -> 6 gamma)=0. 36+-0.02+-0.03 keV. In addition, we observe an enhancement in the cross section near 1900 MeV/c 2 which we attribute to the two-photon production of a new resonance X(1900).
