GLOBAL REFINEMENT OF TERRESTRIAL LASER SCANNER DATA REGISTRATION USING WEIGHTED SENSOR POSES
Terrestrial laser scanner (TLS) sensor captures highly dense and accurate point clouds quite useful for indoor and outdoor mapping, navigation, 3D reconstruction, surveillance, industrial projects, infrastructure management, and others. In this paper, we present a global registration method that weights the sensor poses for refinement of TLS data registration. Our global refinement method assumes that the variance-covariance matrix that describes the uncertainty of sensor poses is available to refine the registration errors. The effectiveness of the proposed method is demonstrated with TLS dataset obtained into outdoor environment. Our results show that the weighting the sensor poses obtained in registration task improves the positional accuracy of TLS sensor

Quantum Fluctuations Driven Orientational Disordering: A Finite-Size Scaling Study
The orientational ordering transition is investigated in the quantum
generalization of the anisotropic-planar-rotor model in the low temperature
regime. The phase diagram of the model is first analyzed within the mean-field
approximation. This predicts at a phase transition from the ordered to
the disordered state when the strength of quantum fluctuations, characterized
by the rotational constant , exceeds a critical value . As a function of temperature, mean-field theory predicts a range of
values of where the system develops long-range order upon cooling, but
enters again into a disordered state at sufficiently low temperatures
(reentrance). The model is further studied by means of path integral Monte
Carlo simulations in combination with finite-size scaling techniques,
concentrating on the region of parameter space where reentrance is predicted to
occur. The phase diagram determined from the simulations does not seem to
exhibit reentrant behavior; at intermediate temperatures a pronounced increase
of short-range order is observed rather than a genuine long-range order.Comment: 27 pages, 8 figures, RevTe
Third order dielectric susceptibility in a model quantum paraelectric
In the context of perovskite quantum paraelectrics, we study the effects of a
quadrupolar interaction , in addition to the standard dipolar one .
We concentrate here on the nonlinear dielectric response , as
the main response function sensitive to quadrupolar (in our case
antiquadrupolar) interactions. We employ a 3D quantum four-state lattice model
and mean-field theory. The results show that inclusion of quadrupolar coupling
of moderate strength () is clearly accompanied by a
double change of sign of from negative to positive, near the
quantum temperature where the quantum paraelectric behaviour sets in. We
fit our to recent experimental data for SrTiO, where the

We discuss the small ball problem, the aim of which is to estimate the
maximum probability that belongs to a ball with given small radius,
following the discovery made by Littlewood-Offord and Erdos almost 70 years
ago. We will mainly focus on recent developments that characterize the
structure of those sets where the small ball probability is relatively
large. Applications of these results include full solutions or significant

Mathematical talent in Braille code pattern finding and invention
The recognition of patterns and creativity are two characteristics associated with mathematical
talent. In this study, we analyzed these characteristics in a group of 37 mathematically talented
students. The students were asked to find the pattern the Braille code had been built upon and
reinvent it with the aim of making its mathematical language become more functional.
Initially, the students were unable to identify the formation pattern of Braille, but after
experiencing the difficulties that blind people face when reading it, they recognized the
generating element and the regularity. The results were in contrast with those of a control
group, and it is noted that the students with mathematical talent were more effective in using
visualization to identify the regularity of the pattern and their invention proposals were more
sophisticated and used less conventional mathematical content.This research is part of the R+D+I project EDU2015-

Competency-based (CanMEDS) residency training programme in radiology: systematic design procedure, curriculum and success factors
Based on the CanMEDS framework and the European Training Charter for Clinical Radiology a new radiology curriculum was designed in the Netherlands. Both the development process and the resulting new curriculum are presented in this paper. The new curriculum was developed according to four systematic design principles: discursiveness, hierarchical decomposition, systematic variation and satisficing (satisficing is different from satisfying; in this context, satisficing means searching for an acceptable solution instead of searching for an optimal solution). The new curriculum is organ based with integration of radiological diagnostic techniques, comprises a uniform national common trunk followed by a 2-year subspecialisation, is competency outcome based with appropriate assessment tools and techniques, and is based on regional collaboration among radiology departments. The application of the systematic design principles proved successful in producing a new curriculum approved by all authorities. The principles led to a structured, yet flexible, development process in which creative solutions could be generated and adopters (programme directors, supervisors and residents) were highly involved. Further research is needed to empirically test the components of the new curriculum
