Present and Future sensitivity to a Z-prime
Various extensions of the Standard Model, i.e. string inspired groups like
E_6, extra dimensions, 'deconstruction', predict additional vector bosons. In
most cases these bosons can mix with the SM Z and this translates into a very
high sensitivity of precision measurements which can be performed at the Z
resonance. This aspect will be illustrated using SLD/LEP data and the possible
impact on the Higgs boson mass indirect determination. An extrapolation to the
accuracies which could be reached at FLC will be discussed. With accuracies
available at GigaZ it will become possible to elucidate the origin the Z' and
the symmetry breaking mechanism responsible for the mixing. Two examples show
the possible impact of FLC on the LHC program.Comment: 23 pages, 8 figure

The measurability of hitting times
Under very general conditions the hitting time of a set by a stochastic
process is a stopping time. We give a new simple proof of this fact. The
section theorems foroptional and predictable sets are easy corollaries of the
proof.Comment: This is a post-publication version that has a correction incorporate
[Review of] Peter Iverson, ed. The Plains Indians of the Twentieth Century
Iverson\u27 s new volume of collected essays by authorities on reservation life serves as an invaluable aid to a further understanding of the sometimes agonizing social problems vis-a-vis the federal government. The book contains, in addition to Iverson\u27s short introduction, eleven essays (three by Native Americans) dealing with the complex cultural problems of twentieth-century Plains Indian reservations. Iverson\u27s essay stresses cultural independence despite overwhelming odds which face the modern Indian
