    Valley-dependent Brewster angles and Goos-Hanchen effect in strained graphene

    We demonstrate theoretically how local strains in graphene can be tailored to generate a valley polarized current. By suitable engineering of local strain profiles, we find that electrons in opposite valleys (K or K') show different Brewster-like angles and Goos-H\"anchen shifts, exhibiting a close analogy with light propagating behavior. In a strain-induced waveguide, electrons in K and K' valleys have different group velocities, which can be used to construct a valley filter in graphene without the need for any external fields.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure

    Automatic Extraction of Commonsense LocatedNear Knowledge

    LocatedNear relation is a kind of commonsense knowledge describing two physical objects that are typically found near each other in real life. In this paper, we study how to automatically extract such relationship through a sentence-level relation classifier and aggregating the scores of entity pairs from a large corpus.     Long-term optical and radio variability of BL Lacertae

    Well-sampled optical and radio light curves of BL Lacertae in B, V, R, I bands and 4.8, 8.0, 14.5 GHz from 1968 to 2014 were presented in this paper. A possible 1.26±0.051.26 \pm 0.05 yr period in optical bands and a 7.50±0.157.50 \pm 0.15 yr period in radio bands were detected based on discrete correlation function, structure function as well as Jurkevich method. Correlations among different bands were also analyzed and no reliable time delay was found between optical bands. Very weak correlations were detected between V band and radio bands. However, in radio bands the variation at low frequency lagged that at high frequency obviously. The spectrum of BL Lacertae turned mildly bluer when the object turned brighter, and stronger bluer-when-brighter trends were found for short flares.     We derive a Bjorken sum rule for semileptonic Ωb\Omega_b decays to ground and low-lying negative-parity excited charmed baryon states, in the heavy quark limit.     Morphological characterization of shocked porous material

    Morphological measures are introduced to probe the complex procedure of shock wave reaction on porous material. They characterize the geometry and topology of the pixelized map of a state variable like the temperature. Relevance of them to thermodynamical properties of material is revealed and various experimental conditions are simulated. Numerical results indicate that, the shock wave reaction results in a complicated sequence of compressions and rarefactions in porous material. The increasing rate of the total fractional white area AA roughly gives the velocity DD of a compressive-wave-series. When a velocity DD is mentioned, the corresponding threshold contour-level of the state variable, like the temperature, should also be stated. When the threshold contour-level increases, DD becomes smaller. The area AA increases parabolically with time tt during the initial period. The A(t)A(t) curve goes back to be linear in the following three cases: (i) when the porosity δ\delta approaches 1, (ii) when the initial shock becomes stronger, (iii) when the contour-level approaches the minimum value of the state variable. The area with high-temperature may continue to increase even after the early compressive-waves have arrived at the downstream free surface and some rarefactive-waves have come back into the target body.
