Large magneto-thermal effect and the spin-phonon coupling in a parent insulating cuprate Pr_{1.3}La_{0.7}CuO_4
The magnetic-field (H) dependence of the thermal conductivity \kappa of
Pr_{1.3}La_{0.7}CuO_4 is found to show a pronounced minimum for in-plane fields
at low temperature, which is best attributed to the scattering of phonons by
free spins that are seen by a Schottky-type specific heat and a Curie-Weiss
susceptibility. Besides pointing to a strong spin-phonon coupling in cuprates,
the present result demonstrates that the H-dependence of the phonon heat
transport should not be naively neglected when discussing the \kappa(H)
behavior of cuprates, since the Schottky anomaly is ubiquitously found in

Experimental Analysis of Multi-hop Routing in Vehicular Ad-hoc Networks
International audienceEvaluation of vehicular ad-hoc networks (VANETs) over real environments is still a remaining issue for most re- searchers. There are some works dealing with common 802.11 anal- ysis over real vehicular environments, which carry out performance tests to measure the quality of the communication channel and justify results according to physical and MAC conditions. There are only a few works regarding multi-hop experimentation in this field, and even less (if not none) testing multi-hop protocols. In this paper an integral VANET testbed is evaluated, using 802.11b and a multi-hop network managed by the Optimized Link State Routing protocol (OLSR). Up to four vehicles are used over urban and highway environments to study the VANET performance, and different metrics are used to analyse the results in terms of delay, bandwidth, packet loss and distance between nodes. Furthermore, a deeper analysis is carried out to study the route followed by packets end to end, which enables us to count the number of hops and detect the links where packets are lost. Because a routing protocol is used, results differ from traditional two-hop and static- route tests, presenting a more realistic study. OLSR is considered as a good reference point for the research community, although it is not the most suitable protocol for vehicular environments, as results show
Efficient method for simulating quantum electron dynamics under the time dependent Kohn-Sham equation
A numerical scheme for solving the time-evolution of wave functions under the
time dependent Kohn-Sham equation has been developed. Since the effective
Hamiltonian depends on the wave functions, the wave functions and the effective
Hamiltonian should evolve consistently with each other. For this purpose, a
self-consistent loop is required at every time-step for solving the
time-evolution numerically, which is computationally expensive. However, in
this paper, we develop a different approach expressing a formal solution of the
TD-KS equation, and prove that it is possible to solve the TD-KS equation
efficiently and accurately by means of a simple numerical scheme without the

Microscopic analysis of the chemical reaction between Fe(Te,Se) thin films and underlying CaF
To understand the chemical reaction at the interface of materials, we
performed a transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation in four types of
Fe(Te,Se) superconducting thin films prepared on different types of substrates:
CaF2 substrate, CaF2 substrate with a CaF2 buffer layer, CaF2 substrate with a
FeSe buffer layer, and a LaAlO3 substrate with a CaF2 buffer layer. Based on
the energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometer (EDX) analysis, we found possible
interdiffusion between fluorine and selenium that has a strong influence on the
superconductivity in Fe(Te,Se) films. The chemical interdiffusion also plays a
significant role in the variation of the lattice parameters. The lattice
parameters of the Fe(Te,Se) thin films are primarily determined by the chemical
substitution of anions, and the lattice mismatch only plays a secondary role.Comment: 30 pages, 9 figur
Switching off or switching source : energy consumption and household
"Access to energy is fundamental to improving quality of life and is a key imper- ative for economic development" (Energy Poverty Action). This is particularly true in Central Asia where winters are harsh and long. Changes in energy prices affect the purchasing power of households, hitting the poor in particular. The impact very much depends on a household's energy basket and the available strategies for switching to alternative energy sources. Using data from the Kyrgyz Integrated Household Survey (KIHS) 2011, this paper analyzes the prole of household energy consumption and the impact of electricity tariff increases on the probability that households would switch to alternative energy sources. Results suggest that households would respond to an electricity price increase by increasing consumption of fuels: households would tend to move away from electricity-only heating source towards the use of stove-only

Ferromagnetism and large negative magnetoresistance in Pb doped Bi-Sr-Co-O misfit-layer compound
Ferromagnetism and accompanying large negative magnetoresistance in
Pb-substituted Bi-Sr-Co-O misfit-layer compound are investigated in detail.
Recent structural analysis of (Bi,Pb)SrCoO, which has
been believed to be a Co analogue of
BiSrCaCuO, revealed that it has a more complex
structure including a CoO hexagonal layer [T. Yamamoto {\it et al.}, Jpn.
J. Appl. Phys. {\bf 39} (2000) L747]. Pb substitution for Bi not only
introduces holes into the conducting CoO layers but also creates a
certain amount of localized spins. Ferromagnetic transition appears at =
3.2 K with small spontaneous magnetization along the axis, and around the
transition temperature large and anisotropic negative magnetoresistance was
observed. This compound is the first example which shows ferromagnetic
