    Parallel optical signal processing for pattern recognition by Fourier optics using coherent and incoherent light are an economic alternative for more expensive digital systems. Therefore, the aim of the cooperative project was the development of a microscope processing systems for microscopic slides, a system for recognition of larger industrial objects, a sensor system for the measurement of particle size distributions an optical autocorrelator for evaluation of PIV and LSP recordings. Liquid Crystal Spatial Light Modulators are the essential components for 2D light modulation and data input in the above mentioned systems. The University of Stuttgart has provded different LC-SLMs for application as input signal source and read out beam modulation.
