    Encounter rate of large mammals in Thanigebyle range of Bhadra wildlife sanctuary, Karnataka

    Estimation of large mammals by using line transact method in the Thanigebyle range of Bhadra Wildlife Sanctuary during May 2009 to April 2010 in Thanigebyle range for four species of large herbivorous mammals viz., Chital (Axis axis), Sambar (Cervus unicolor), Barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak) and Gaur (Bosgaurus). The sanctuary was divided into several zones based on location and habitat types. Four permanent walking transect of 1 km were cut in different habitats of water holes for direct count and walk once in each month and four permanent vehicle transects of 18 kms were made.  A total of 22 kms per month transect was evaluated including both walking transect and permanent vehicle transect of 4 kms and 18 kms respectively. This evaluation indicates that maximum number of individuals was observed in the walking transect when compared to vehicle transect for all the four species. During our study 21 Sambar, 161 Chital, 8 Barking deer and 21 Gaur was encountered. Chital was observed more in the study area. It also reveals that during pre monsoon and post monsoon seasons the number of individuals was observed to be higher. &nbsp

    Deep Blue Light Emission of (4,3-Oxo?HCMM) Coumarin Derivative for Organic Led Display Application

    In the present technological world huge demand of white light emitting diodes has received much importance due to their vast applications in various sensors, lightning devices and display etc. The white light can be produced by mixing exact amount of green, blue and red light. Therefore, we made an attempt to produce a LED application making use of organic compounds. Hence, we synthesized 4-Hydroxy-3-[(4-Hydroxy-2-Oxo-2H-Chromen-3-yl) (4-Methoxyphenyl) Methyl]-2H-Chromen-2-One (4,3-OxoHCMM). In this present work we report, the 4,3-OxoHCMM possesses high color purity, good CIE chromaticity coordinate, and they would have potential organic light emitting devices (LED) application, this simple method to produce the blue light as blue component can play important role in WLED. Uv-Vis absorption spectra is used to determine the optical energy bandgap Eg, andfrom the photoluminescence spectra duality nature of wavelengths for 4,3-OxoHCMM molecule in different solvents is obtained due to solvation effect, this result shows a simple extraction of dye in different solvents which can be used to produce the desired wavelength

    Thermal quantum and classical correlations in two qubit XX model in a nonuniform external magnetic field

    We investigate how thermal quantum discord (QD) and classical correlations (CC) of a two-qubit one-dimensional XX Heisenberg chain in thermal equilibrium depend on the temperature of the bath as well as on nonuniform external magnetic fields applied to two qubits and varied separately. We show that the behavior of QD differs in many unexpected ways from the thermal entanglement (EOF). For the nonuniform case (B1 = -B2), we find that QD and CC are equal for all values of (B1 = -B2) and for different temperatures. We show that, in this case, the thermal states of the system belong to a class of mixed states and satisfy certain conditions under which QD and CC are equal. The specification of this class and the corresponding conditions are completely general and apply to any quantum system in a state in this class satisfying these conditions. We further find that the relative contributions of QD and CC can be controlled easily by changing the relative magnitudes of B1 and B2. Finally, we connect our results with the monogamy relations between the EOF, CC and the QD of two qubits and the environment.Comment: 8 pages, 13 figures.     Seasonal Variation of Physico-Chemical Characteristics of Water in Two Wetlands of Tiptur Taluk, Karnataka

    The present study was carried out to evaluate the physico-chemical parameters of Sugur and Bajagur wetlands, located at Tiptur taluk, of Tumkur district, Karnataka. The physicochemical parameters play a vital role in the wetland ecosystems. A significant variation in these parameters was observed throughout the study period and monthly comparisons were made as monsoon, pre-monsoon and post-monsoon. The results of the present investigations are compared with literature values and investigation reveals that there is a fluctuation in the physico-chemical characters of the water this will be due to in flow and change in the temperature as season change

    Role of the dielectric constant of ferroelectric ceramic in enhancing the ionic conductivity of a polymer electrolyte composite

    The dispersal of high dielectric constant ferroelectric ceramic material Ba(0.7)Sr(0.3)TiO(3) (Tc~30 C) and Ba(0.88)Sr(0.12)TiO(3) (Tc~90 C) in an ion conducting polymer electrolyte (PEO:NH4I) is reported to result in an increase in the room temperature ionic conductivity by two orders of magnitude. The conductivity enhancememt "peaks" as we approach the dielectric phase transition of the dispersed ferroelectric material where the dielectric constant changes from ~ 2000 to 4000. This establishes the role of dielectric constant of the dispersoid in enhancing the ionic conductivity of the polymeric composites.Comment: 10 pages, 2 figure

    Instanton Corrected Non-Supersymmetric Attractors

    We discuss non-supersymmetric attractors with an instanton correction in Type IIA string theory compactified on a Calabi-Yau three-fold at large volume. For a stable non-supersymmetric black hole, the attractor point must minimize the effective black hole potential. We study the supersymmetric as well as non-supersymmetric attractors for the D0-D4 system with instanton corrections. We show that in simple models, like the STU model, the flat directions of the mass matrix can be lifted by a suitable choice of the instanton parameters.Comment: Minor modifications, Corrected typos, 38 pages, 1 figur

    Causality and statistics on the Groenewold-Moyal plane

    Quantum theories constructed on the noncommutative spacetime called the Groenewold-Moyal plane exhibit many interesting properties such as Lorentz and CPT noninvariance, causality violation and twisted statistics. We show that such violations lead to many striking features that may be tested experimentally. These theories predict Pauli forbidden transitions due to twisted statistics, anisotropies in the cosmic microwave background radiation due to correlations of observables in spacelike regions and Lorentz and CPT violations in scattering amplitudes.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figure.     We carry out extensive Monte Carlo simulations on the Coulomb gas dual to the uniformly frustrated two dimensional XY model, for a sequence of frustrations f converging to the irraltional (3-sqrt 5)/2. We find in these systems a sharp first order equilibrium phase transition to an ordered vortex structure at a T_c which varies only slightly with f. This ordered vortex structure remains in general phase incoherent until a lower pinning transition T_p(f) that varies with f. We argue that the glassy behaviors reported for this model in earlier simulations are dynamic effects.Comment: 4 pages, 4 eps figure

    GeorgeOral Immunization of Rhesus Macaques with Adenoviral HIV Vaccines Using Enteric-coated Capsules

    Targeted delivery of vaccine candidates to the gastrointestinal (GI) tract holds potential for mucosal immunization, particularly against mucosal pathogens like the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Among the different strategies for achieving targeted release in the GI tract, namely the small intestine, pH sensitive enteric coating polymers have been shown to protect solid oral dosage forms from the harsh digestive environment of the stomach and dissolve relatively rapidly in the small intestine by taking advantage of the luminal pH gradient. We developed an enteric polymethacrylate formulation for coating hydroxy-propyl-methyl-cellulose (HPMC) capsules containing lyophilized Adenoviral type 5 (Ad5) vectors expressing HIV-1 gag and a string of six highly-conserved HIV-1 envelope peptides representing broadly cross-reactive CD4+ and CD8+ T cell epitopes. Oral immunization of rhesus macaques with these capsules primed antigen-specific mucosal and systemic immune responses and subsequent intranasal delivery of the envelope peptide cocktail using a mutant cholera toxin adjuvant boosted cellular immune responses including, antigen-specific intracellular IFN-γ-producing CD4+ and CD8+ effector memory T cells in the intestine. These results suggest that the combination of oral adenoviral vector priming followed by intranasal protein/peptide boosting may be an effective mucosal HIV vaccination strategy for targeting viral antigens to the GI tract and priming systemic and mucosal immunity
