    Cooperative awareness using roadside unit networks in mixed traffic

    International audienceVehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) messaging is an indispensable component of connected autonomous vehicle systems. Although V2V standards have been specified by the European Union, United States, and Japan, the deployment phase represents mixed traffic in which connected and legacy vehicles co-exist. To enhance cooperative awareness in this mixed traffic, we assessed the special roadside unit that we developed in our previous work that generates required V2V messages on behalf of sensed target vehicles. In this paper, we extend our earlier work to propose a system called Grid Proxy Cooperative Awareness Message to broaden the cooperative awareness message dissemination area by connecting infrastructure using high-speed roadside networks. To minimize delay in message delivery, we designed the proposed system to use edge computing. The proposed scheme delivers cooperative messages to a wider area with a low delay and a high packet delivery ratio by prioritizing packets by their respective safety contributions. Our simulation results indicate that the proposed scheme efficiently delivers messages in heavy road traffic conditions modeled on real maps of Tokyo and Paris

    Software Defined Media: Virtualization of Audio-Visual Services

    Internet-native audio-visual services are witnessing rapid development. Among these services, object-based audio-visual services are gaining importance. In 2014, we established the Software Defined Media (SDM) consortium to target new research areas and markets involving object-based digital media and Internet-by-design audio-visual environments. In this paper, we introduce the SDM architecture that virtualizes networked audio-visual services along with the development of smart buildings and smart cities using Internet of Things (IoT) devices and smart building facilities. Moreover, we design the SDM architecture as a layered architecture to promote the development of innovative applications on the basis of rapid advancements in software-defined networking (SDN). Then, we implement a prototype system based on the architecture, present the system at an exhibition, and provide it as an SDM API to application developers at hackathons. Various types of applications are developed using the API at these events. An evaluation of SDM API access shows that the prototype SDM platform effectively provides 3D audio reproducibility and interactiveness for SDM applications.Comment: IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC2017), Paris, France, 21-25 May 201

    FXYD proteins, small single-transmembrane proteins, have been proposed to be auxiliary regulatory subunits of Na+–K+-ATPase and have recently been implied in ion osmoregulation of teleost fish. In freshwater (FW) fish, numerous ions are actively taken up through mitochondrion-rich cells (MRCs) of the gill and skin epithelia, using the Na+ electrochemical gradient generated by Na+–K+-ATPase. In the present study, to understand the molecular mechanism for the regulation of Na+–K+-ATPase in MRCs of FW fish, we sought to identify FXYD proteins expressed in MRCs of zebrafish. Reverse-transcriptase PCR studies of adult zebrafish tissues revealed that, out of eight fxyd genes found in zebrafish database, only zebrafish fxyd11 (zfxyd11) mRNA exhibited a gill-specific expression. Double immunofluorescence staining showed that zFxyd11 is abundantly expressed in MRCs rich in Na+–K+-ATPase (NaK-MRCs) but not in those rich in vacuolar-type H+-transporting ATPase. An in situ proximity ligation assay demonstrated its close association with Na+–K+-ATPase in NaK-MRCs. The zfxyd11 mRNA expression was detectable at 1 day postfertilization, and its expression levels in the whole larvae and adult gills were regulated in response to changes in environmental ionic concentrations. Furthermore, knockdown of zFxyd11 resulted in a significant increase in the number of Na+–K+-ATPase–positive cells in the larval skin. These results suggest that zFxyd11 may regulate the transport ability of NaK-MRCs by modulating Na+–K+-ATPase activity, and may be involved in the regulation of body fluid and electrolyte homeostasis

    Percutaneous coronary intervention using new-generation drug-eluting stents versus coronary arterial bypass grafting in stable patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease: From the CREDO-Kyoto PCI/CABG registry Cohort-3

    AIMS: There is a scarcity of studies comparing percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) using new-generation drug-eluting stents (DES) with coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) in patients with multi-vessel coronary artery disease. METHODS AND RESULTS: The CREDO-Kyoto PCI/CABG registry Cohort-3 enrolled 14927 consecutive patients who underwent first coronary revascularization with PCI or isolated CABG between January 2011 and December 2013. The current study population consisted of 2464 patients who underwent multi-vessel coronary revascularization including revascularization of left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD) either with PCI using new-generation DES (N = 1565), or with CABG (N = 899). Patients in the PCI group were older and more often had severe frailty, but had less complex coronary anatomy, and less complete revascularization than those in the CABG group. Cumulative 5-year incidence of a composite of all-cause death, myocardial infarction or stroke was not significantly different between the 2 groups (25.0% versus 21.5%, P = 0.15). However, after adjusting confounders, the excess risk of PCI relative to CABG turned to be significant for the composite endpoint (HR 1.27, 95%CI 1.04-1.55, P = 0.02). PCI as compared with CABG was associated with comparable adjusted risk for all-cause death (HR 1.22, 95%CI 0.96-1.55, P = 0.11), and stroke (HR 1.17, 95%CI 0.79-1.73, P = 0.44), but with excess adjusted risk for myocardial infarction (HR 1.58, 95%CI 1.05-2.39, P = 0.03), and any coronary revascularization (HR 2.66, 95%CI 2.06-3.43, P<0.0001). CONCLUSIONS: In this observational study, PCI with new-generation DES as compared with CABG was associated with excess long-term risk for major cardiovascular events in patients who underwent multi-vessel coronary revascularization including LAD

    Networked Roadside Perception Units for Autonomous Driving

    Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) communication enhances the capability of autonomous driving through better safety, efficiency, and comfort. In particular, sensor data sharing, known as cooperative perception, is a crucial technique to accommodate vulnerable road users in a cooperative intelligent transport system (ITS). In this paper, we describe a roadside perception unit (RSPU) that combines sensors and roadside units (RSUs) for infrastructure-based cooperative perception. We propose a software called AutoC2X that we designed to realize cooperative perception for RSPUs and vehicles. We also propose the concept of networked RSPUs, which is the inter-connection of RSPUs along a road over a wired network, and helps realize broader cooperative perception. We evaluated the RSPU system and the networked RSPUs through a field test, numerical analysis, and simulation experiments. Field evaluation showed that, even in the worst case, our RSPU system can deliver messages to an autonomous vehicle within 100 ms. The simulation result shows that the proposed priority algorithm achieves a wide perception range with a high delivery ratio and low latency, especially under heavy road traffic conditions

    正常人において心理的ストレス状況下での下垂体ホルモンの分泌について検討した。対象は19〜22才の健康な学生15人である。心理的ストレスとしては鏡映描写テスト(MDT)を行なった。MDTは5分施行後1分の休みをおいて再度5分施行した。中間の休みの時に,Thyrotropin Releasing Hormone(TRH)500μgを単回静注し,静注前及び静注後15分,30分,60分,90分,120分に採血を行ない,HGHとPRLを測定した。対照として同一対象にTRH静注のみ及びMDTのみの場合の検討をも行った。MDTを施行しそれに加えてTRHを静注した時には,前値に比べ15分,30分後に有意(P<0.001)のHGH増加反応を示した。MDTのみを行なった場合には,HGHの有意の変化はみられなかった。TRH静注だけでも強い増加反応はみられなかった。さらにTRH静注だけと,MDT施行中にTRH静注を行なう場合を比較すると,MDTとTRHの同時の負荷の時に,有意に(P<0.01)強いHGHの増加反応がみられた。PRLの反応は,TRH静注のみと,MDTとTRH静注と,両者共に同じ様な反応を示した。即ち,心理的ストレス(MDT)と身体的刺激(TRH静注)の両方の負荷が同時にある時に,有意のHGH増加反応がみられた。The human growth hormone (HGH) response to thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH) was investigated under the state of psychological stress in normal subjects. Fifteen subjects were 4 males and 11 females. Their age ranged from 19 to 22 years. The mirror drawing test (MDT) was performed to induce psychological stress. Plasma growth hormone and prolactin were determined serially before, during and after the test. Three kinds of tests, namely, TRH test only which was performed by injecting iv 500μg synthetic TRH, mirror drawing test only and TRH test with MDT were done. The changes of HGH to MDT only were not significant. HGH response to TRH only showed no remarkable change. The HGH responses to TRH with MDT were significantly higher than the responses to TRH only. The changes of prolactin to TRH with MDT and TRH only showed almost the same response pattern. Only under the state of combination of these two stimul, somatic and psychological, the changes of HGH secretion were significant

    Biochemical and Genetic Analysis of the γ-Resorcylate (2,6-Dihydroxybenzoate) Catabolic Pathway in Rhizobium sp. Strain MTP-10005: Identification and Functional Analysis of Its Gene Cluster

    We identified a gene cluster that is involved in the γ-resorcylate (2,6-dihydroxybenzoate) catabolism of the aerobic bacterium Rhizobium sp. strain MTP-10005. The cluster consists of the graRDAFCBEK genes, and graA, graB, graC, and graD were heterologously expressed in Escherichia coli. Enzymological studies showed that graD, graA, graC, and graB encode the reductase (GraD) and oxygenase (GraA) components of a resorcinol hydroxylase (EC 1.14.13.x), a maleylacetate reductase (GraC) (EC 1.3.1.32), and a hydroxyquinol 1,2-dioxygenase (GraB) (EC 1.13.11.37). Bioinformatic analyses suggested that graE, graR, and graK encode a protein with an unknown function (GraE), a MarR-type transcriptional regulator (GraR), and a benzoate transporter (GraK). Quantitative reverse transcription-PCR of graF, which encodes γ-resorcylate decarboxylase, revealed that the maximum relative mRNA expression level ([5.93 ± 0.82] × 10(−4)) of graF was detected in the total RNA of the cells after one hour of cultivation when γ-resorcylate was used as the sole carbon source. Reverse transcription-PCR of graDAFCBE showed that these genes are transcribed as a single mRNA and that the transcription of the gene cluster is induced by γ-resorcylate. These results suggested that the graDAFCBE genes are responsible as an operon for the growth of Rhizobium sp. strain MTP-10005 on γ-resorcylate and are probably regulated by GraR at the transcriptional level.
