Computation of the electron beam quality kQ,Q0k_{{\rm Q,Q}_0} factors for the NE2571, NE2571A and NE2581A thimble ionization chambers using PENELOPE

The quality correction factor kQ,Q0k_{Q,Q_{0}} for electron beams was calculated for three thimble ionization chambers, namely, NE2571, NE2571A and NE2581A. The Monte Carlo code PENELOPE was used to estimate the overall correction factor fc,Qf_{\rm c,Q} of these chambers for electron beams with nominal energies ranging between 6 and 22 MeV, corresponding to a Varian Clinac 2100 C/D. A 60^{60}Co beam was used as reference quality Q0{\rm Q}_0. Also eight monoenergetic electron beams reproducing the quality index R50R_{50} of the Clinac beams were considered. The kQ,Q0k_{Q,Q_{0}} factors were calculated as the ratio between fc,Qf_{\rm c,Q} and fc,Q0f_{{\rm c,Q}_0}. Those obtained for the NE2571 ionization chamber show a nice agreement with those calculated by Muir and Rogers with EGSnrc. As it occurred to other ionization chambers analyzed in previous works, the kQ,Q0k_{{\rm Q,Q}_0} factors found for the monoenergetic beams are larger (smaller) than those corresponding to the Clinac beams at low (high) R50R_{50} values, the differences being slightly above 0.5%0.5\%. Finally, the kQ,Q0k_{{\rm Q,Q}_0} factors obtained in the case of the NE2571A chamber are systematically ~0.5% below those of its predecessor chamber, the NE2571.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, 3 table

On Pillai’s problem with X-coordinates of Pell equations and powers of 2 II

    Get PDF
In this paper, we show that if (X_n, Y_n) is the nth solution of the Pell equation X^2−dY^2= ±1 for some non-square d, then given any int eger c, the equation c = X_n−2^m has at most 2 integer solutions (n, m)withn ≥ 0andm ≥ 0, except for the only pair (c, d)=(−1, 2). Moreover, we show that this bound is optimal. Additionally, we propose a conjecture about the number of solutions of Pillai’s problem in linear recurrent sequences

The Decentralized Autonomous Government of the province of Chimborazo promotes the agricultural productive development of the province by promoting entrepreneurship, and improving the capacities of producers, access to production factors, and integration of actors and subjects of agriculture and management on the basis to strategic planning. The construction of the Chimborazo Competitiveness Agenda was a participatory process that identified opportunities to improve the agricultural sector, where agricultural production at the primary level was recognized as a vocation and strength of the province; however, a strategic necessity was to establish possibilities of adding value and diversifying agricultural production. The definition of a set of agricultural products with high potential at the primary level and/or in agroindustrial processes that are not deeply explored required determining market signals to identify new medium- and long-term commercial possibilities for Chimborazo farmers. Additionally, it was recognized that the management of the province of Chimborazo was based on its management of the Millennium Development Goals, the Constitution of the Republic, the National Plan for Development in a Supra-Provincial Framework, as well as the Plan Development of Chimborazo, the Territorial Planning Plan and others that promoted planning with a focus on territorial and solidarity sustainable development. Keywords: Chimborazo, productive development, entrepreneurship, agricultural sector.

A survey of Anopheles mosquitoes was undertaken in Putumayo, southern Colombia, to clarify the identity of specimens classified as Anopheles (N) evansae in the region. Female anophelines were captured on human bait; then blood fed on small mammals to obtain eggs for progeny broods. Morphological characteristics of the eggs. larvae, pupae and adults of both sexes, including male genitalia were examined. Eggs were obtained from 247 females provisionally identified as A. (N.) evansae Morphology of associated life stages of the progeny broods was compared among 27 families. The morphology of al1 stages corresponded to the published descriptions of Anopheles (N.) benarrochi. However, morphologically variable adult females were noted. In hind tarsomere 2, the dark portion ranged from 0.17 to 0.33 of the tarsomere length; this is less than previously reported for A. (N) benarrochi and overlaps the ranges described for A. (N,) oswaldoi and A. (N) evansae This variable character probably has led to incorrect identifications of adult A. (N.) benarrochifemales as A. (N.) evansae or A. (N.) oswaldoi in specimens from southern Colombia. As a consequence, A. (N) benarrochi has not been previously recognized in Putumayo, and probably has been misidentified in other areas of northwestern South America.
