    Semi-separation axioms associated with the Alexandroff compactification of the MW MW -topological plane

    The present paper aims to investigate some semi-separation axioms relating to the Alexandroff one point compactification (Alexandroff compactification, for short) of the digital plane with the Marcus-Wyse (MW MW -, for brevity) topology. The Alexandroff compactification of the MW MW -topological plane is called the infinite MW MW -topological sphere up to homeomorphism. We first prove that under the MW MW -topology on Z2 {\mathbb Z}^2 the connectedness of X(⊂Z2) X(\subset {\mathbb Z}^2) with X♯≄2 X^\sharp\geq 2 implies the semi-openness of X X . Besides, for the infinite MW MW -topological sphere, we introduce a new condition for the hereditary property of the compactness of it. In addition, we investigate some conditions preserving the semi-openness or semi-closedness of a subset of the MW MW -topological plane in the process of an Alexandroff compactification. Finally, we prove that the infinite MW MW -topological sphere is a semi-regular space; thus, it is a semi-T3 T_3 -space because it is a semi-T1 T_1 -space. Hence we finally conclude that an Alexandroff compactification of the MW MW -topological plane preserves the semi-T3 T_3 separation axiom

    Aseptic Endocarditis in Behçet's Disease Presenting as Tricuspid Valve Stenosis

    Aseptic endocarditis is an uncommon complication of Behçet's disease (BD). We describe a rare case of a 39-year-old female who had BD with aseptic endocarditis of the tricuspid valve (TV) presenting as tricuspid stenosis. She was diagnosed with BD four years ago. The mucocutaneous lesions were well-controlled with colchicine and short courses of corticosteroids. She remained free of signs and symptoms of BD for one year without any medication. Three months before admission, she gradually developed dyspnea on exertion and peripheral edema. Echocardiography revealed dilated right atrium and markedly thickened TV with severe stenosis. TV replacement was performed. Pathologic examination of the valve showed fibrinoid necrotic material and inflammatory cell infiltration. Blood cultures and cultures of the excised valve were negative for microorganisms

    The 70-Gene Prognostic Signature for Korean Breast Cancer Patients

    Purpose: A 70-gene prognostic signature has prognostic value in patients with node-negative breast cancer in Europe. This diagnostic test known as “MammaPrint TM (70-gene prognostic signature)” was recently validated and implementation was feasible. Therefore, we assessed the 70-gene prognostic signature in Korean patients with breast cancer. We compared the risk predicted by the 70-gene prognostic signature with commonly used clinicopathological guidelines among Korean patients with breast cancer. We also analyzed the 70-gene prognostic signature and clinicopathological feature of the patients in comparison with a previous validation study. Methods: Forty-eight eligible patients with breast cancer (clinical T1-2N0M0) were selected from four hospitals in Korea. Fresh tumor samples were analyzed with a customized microarray for the 70-gene prognostic signature. Concordance between the risk predicted by the 70-gene prognosti

    The Fixed Point Property of Non-Retractable Topological Spaces

    Unlike the study of the fixed point property (FPP, for brevity) of retractable topological spaces, the research of the FPP of non-retractable topological spaces remains. The present paper deals with the issue. Based on order-theoretic foundations and fixed point theory for Khalimsky (K-, for short) topological spaces, the present paper studies the product property of the FPP for K-topological spaces. Furthermore, the paper investigates the FPP of various types of connected K-topological spaces such as non-K-retractable spaces and some points deleted K-topological (finite) planes, and so on. To be specific, after proving that not every one point deleted subspace of a finite K-topological plane X is a K-retract of X, we study the FPP of a non-retractable topological space Y, such as one point deleted space Y ∖ { p }

    2003, ‘An experimental study on the thermal conductivity change of building insulation materials with environmental condition and long-time elapse

    Full text link
    Abstract It has been known that the thermal performance of building insulation materials is easily influenced by the environment's condition, and moreover the thermal performance of some insulation materials are changed dramatically with time elapse. So, during the life span of actual buildings, the thermal performance of envelope should not be maintained as the design intended. To keep thermal performance of buildings as the design intended, it is essential to know the performance change of insulation materials with time elapse and environmental condition changes. The objective of this paper is to provide the basic experimental data for thermal insulation performance change with environmental condition and time elapse. We tested the thermal conductivity of insulation materials used widely in Korean domestic buildings. We measured the change of thermal conductivity according to the moisture content rate, the variation of test temperature and the time elapse, etc. The test specimens were kept in actual weather condition, which was influenced directly by the outside environment for the long-time elapse test. The result of the study shows 1)the maximum moisture content rate of mineral fibre insulations is higher than others, 2)thermal conductivity rises as test temperature goes up, 3)the thermal conductivity of the extruding insulations and hardened urethane foam changes by maximum 50% with time elapse(2 years)

    Riedel Thyroiditis in a Patient with Graves Disease

    Riedel's thyroiditis is a rare form of infiltrative and inflammatory disease of the thyroid gland and can be associated with systemic fibrotic processes, Hashimoto thyroiditis and Graves disease. Riedel thyroiditis in combination with Graves disease however, is very rare. A 57-year-old woman with a past medical history significant for Graves disease diagnosed 30 years ago presented with an enlarging neck mass and voice changes. Due to suspicion of malignancy, thyroidectomy was performed. Histopathologic examination revealed Riedel thyroiditis. To our knowledge, the association of Riedel thyroiditis with Graves disease has not yet been reported in our country. Here we report a patient with Riedel thyroiditis evolved from antecedent Graves disease

    Preliminary X-ray diffraction study of glutathione S-transferase from Pseudomonas sp. DJ77

    Full text link
    A bacterial glutathione S-transferase from Pseudomonas sp. DJ77 has been crystallized. The crystals diffract to at least 2.3 ? resolution, and belong to the orthorhombic space group P212121, with cell parameters a=97.4 ?, b=100.3 ?, and c=46.0 ?. There is one dimer molecule of pGST per crystallographic asymmetric unit, with the crystal volume per protein mass of 2.34 ?3/dalton and a solvent content of about 47% (v/v).ope
